Do you even consider the plight of the common man when you spew words like this?

You people said the same back in 2012...GEJ heard you...and as a result the govt wasted billions on a subsidy that by 2014 had ceased to exist outside Lagos and Abuja.

We better face facts. The modular refineries are going to take time to finish. Dangote refinery will come on stream in 2019 at 50% capacity. Till then....either we increase fuel costs.....or put millions of Nigerians who work for the various independent marketers out of a job...because their ogas cannot make enough to pay them a salary.

Deregulate or stagnate!

Option 1 doesnt make sense at all since CBN would now be the one paying the subsidy. It also creates opportunity for forex profiteers, who will inevitably disguise as marketers to access the cheaper dollar and resell at market price. Marketers will also divert the dollar themselves

Option 2 is a variation of the same. Nobody will buy from IPMAN outlets if NNPC stations are selling that much cheaper. The pressure on them will result to product diversion & black market prices too.

Option 3. . . .If NNPC has been bridging the gap all this while to maintain price of 145/l at the pump (incurring such heavy losses in the process) how come marketers have also been selling at 145/l up until now? How much was NNPC giving them a litre of fuel ex-depot? Isn't their margin included in this N26 difference?!

Nigerians please wake up! Let's stop cheating ourselves!

Allowing the marketers to access forex at the rate of N204 is still another name for subsidy. Just that this time around, the product will not even be available as it will be more profitable to sell the dollars at N360 without any sweat. This is one of the areas the immediate past administration actually goofed. cheesy

NNPC mega stations at N145 while the masses are at mercy of other marketers is not even a logical option. Another room for some NNPC mega stations managers to quickly make their millions. grin

Total deregulation, na im win am.
Allowing marketers access dollar at N204 is just opening the door for fraud on a massive scale.
Take it from me if they go ahead see what will happen:
(1)They would sell at least half of the dollars in the black market. If a marketer gets allocated say $10 million, if he sells $5 million, that's a cool N500m(N100 difference x$5m),just by sitting in an office and signing across a paper!
(2)Scarcity would persist because they would be importing half or even less than half of foreign exchange allocated them for fuel import having diverted a major part.
(3)Fuel price will surely subsequently be high because marketers are not importing enough leading to sustained scarcity.
This is corruption being planned on a massive scale with further suffering added to the mix and just like during the much maligned GEJ regime, another, new set of briefcase billionaires are about to benefit from the Buhari goverment.
(4)They will then become the ones to endorse and sponsor Buhari's 2nd term bid, campaign and massive buying of votes on election day.

Complainants.

There must be a local price response to the international price of oil.

As long as we don't have local refining capacity we must react to the landing costs.

Lament all you want but reality is reality.

The price of oil goes up, Nigerians are in trouble ...

It goes down, we are in trouble too....

The solution to this is that the government review the exchange rate which is one of the reasons we opted for a dynamic exchange rate mechanism.

But the Federal Government is having a field day at 300 Naira a dollar at least it has more Naira to meet it local obligations.

In a nutshell, Nigerians are subsidizing the expenses of the Federal Government

You mean subsidize the marketers dollar thirst such that they sit in their offices, import nothing but sell the same dollar at the blackmarket.

I thought your messiah said he will end corruption. Is he back tracking ?

You folks are a shameless lot..

Nigerians have been suffering because of low oil prices...

Now they are suffering because of rising oil prices...

This is hilarious...

What ever you do in this goverment you are f4ucked...

Your watery argument against the special FX window doesnt hold water...

Oil marketers have always been privileged to access FX at below black market prices...

Oil marketers have been obtaining FX at 298 naira per dollar for over 1 year...

That is still a difference of over 60 naira when compared to the black market...

So what is the dullard's excuse?

The opportunity to round trip has always been there

all i can see is crude this crude that...y is everyone blind to the fact that we are debating about this because some idiots wont fix or allow private sectors to generate and distribute electricity? they are all tryna talk about how to milk the country again before 2019 so that whoever among them is not favoured after the election can go on enjoying life. its a close of the regime scheme. we all know this. the only solution to stable and affordable fuel pump price is to get a good supply of electricity, very effective transportation system (good roads too). these aren't too much to ask for but they are there selling the alternatives to us in (generators, solar, etc) and will make none of these work...

but then, they just want us to decide which of the lesser evils we want...and all these comments are enough to help dem decide which we would stick with.

“One, is for the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) to allow the marketers access forex at the rate of N204 to a dollar as against the official rate of N305 to keep the pump price of fuel per litre at N145.

Bloody liar.

If only you would even read the opening of a thread before you comment.

It is increasing becoming clearer that Jonathan was a more humane manager of resources than this cattle rearer from Daura. Even at 100 dollar per litre, Jonathan was able to sustain a subsidy regime which ensures that fuel was sold at 97 naira per litre, from 75 naira it formerly sold. This cut down in subsidy generated a fund called sureP.
Here is Buhari, at 45 dollar to a barrel, fuel was sold at 145 naira from the former 87 naira. There is no report of a fund saved due to subsidy removal. Instead, government is taking a billion dollars from the excess crude account in the guise of fighting terrorism.
Two things are involved here. It is either Buhari and his cohorts are massively stealing from us or he is as dumb as a dullard, having no iota of idea as to where the money is migrating to.

And you forget to add,.they created a TSA that ensures all Monet goes directly into their pocket; making it easy for them to steal.

At the end of this drama by buhari's Incompetent govt, more people will begin to appreciate what GEJ went through when international oil price was $113/b yet was able to sell fuel at N97/litre, with a stable exchange rate at N210/$1
Contrast the above with the current N145 going N180/litre, exchange rate at N360/$1 with international oil price at $45 - $67 and you will understand that real governance is far from lies and propaganda.

Now we would all agree that Ojota protest was sponsored by cabals. Full deregulation is the only way out. We can now appreciate GEJ removal of subsidy.

We don catch am....

Shameless Gavelslam

You are now dragging a difference of N7,

Even at 305 Naira, there is still a difference of 55 Naira.

Come and explain yourself

Shameless BMC

Can you imagine?

You told a bold faced lie which I debunked quickly. Rather than hide your head in shame you've gone into the BMC Perjorative only losers such as yourself would use.

There is a good reason to keep profit from the sales of importation and round tripping at close ranks. Such reasons are above your paygrade.

Go call your oga.

Typical of you to focus on the messenger and leave the message....

Come and explain why 55 naira is not attractive enough to the oil marketer.

The PPPRA pricing template doesn't leave more than 20 naira to the oil marketer.

20 naira he will make after selling off his entire cargo...

I'm waiting for your explanation...you two faced bastard grin grin

Ode.....do you know the huge subsidy Jonathan was paying independent marketers to keep the price at N97? Without the subsidy at that time,
the pump price would have been as high as N160.

It's even more suspicious and skulduggery when view on the account that no money was budgeted or approved for subsidy by the SENATOR, so the question is where are they syphoning money?

Is it part the 25.billion dollars that was misappropriated by NNPC?
