Majority of North Koreans have no internet access by government design. Majority of them haven't even heard of Facebook or Twitter, no joke. Anybody who tries to leave the country and is caught faces imprisonment or execution along with members of their immediate family. People who manage to make it across are referred to as defectors, and their families are imprisoned or executed.

There's plenty special about the goings-on in North Korea. That's why it's such a big deal.

North Korea is not as bad as being portrayed in the western media especially American, they are a country that practices a philosophy called "juche" which means self reliant without outside help and western countries do not like that because it takes NK out of the international banking system and set an example to poor third world countries on how to break free from neocolonialism and exploitation. Because as the OP stated, taking these pictures is North Korean is against the law and you can go to jail if caught taking some of these pictures...In the other places viz US, UK, Germany, etc you mentioned, it is not illegal and against the law to do these.
