That time of the year when I get to spend 4 weeks with all our premier units (Recces, STF, PPU CAT, Pathfinders, 7 Medical Batallion Group - current commander is both a medical doctor and Recce operator , 2 Field Engineer Regiment - who have an elite unit that runs its own Selection and provides demolitions instructors to both Parabats and Marines, 44 Field Engineer Parabat), Denel, CSIR, SSA and other support like 1 Parabat, SAPS NIU, SSA, and the various agencies that make up Rescue SA.

Apart from the military engineer units and others, also new to the annual exercise is the AMD, the South African Aerospace, Maritime and Defence Industries Association - Paramount, Grintek, Reutech etc - who'll be showcasing their C4S capabilities.

And no ActivateKruger , there won't be any pics, unless like last year, someone from the SAPS gets excited and releases STF pics. Anyhooo, no field excursions for me; I'll based at the CSIR Command Centre and will start by posting some initiatives from the continent's premier research institute, specifically their Defence division.

Government institutions are leaking alot, there needs to be better financial management of resources or else each year we'll be chest thumping how our respective military budgets keep on increasing when in reality, its just a waste .... Now i'm beginning to understand how ethiopia military with a budget of less than $500m gets to be ranked higher than militaries with budgets 4 times bigger...
