I'm sure they are dozens of countries with an even higher number of their citizens in those Chinese institutions, but those countries will still find it difficult to get an A29 type program off the ground. People really do underestimate a large scale engineering project.

6 guys here, two guys there is not enough. If it was the other way around, with Chinese and/or other nationals permanently based in Nigeria with the specific intention of starting such a program it would be a different story.

That's how most countries start such endeavors. e.g Israeli scientists/engineers moving to SA to assist in certain weapons programs in the 80's.

I'm aware of 6 whom I know personally so there are dozens who I do not know about.

Plus how many countries have the fund and will go want to start such program ? If we have specialist learning already with expertise in such sector then what we need now is the fund, will and infrastructure then the government can negotiate for the technical know how which includes ToT and human resources to be sent here.

I know for a fact that this kind of criminal behavior would be prosecuted in the US. It doesn't work, leads to low morale, creates cycle of violence,.... Africaken please don't take things so personal, this is just an example of how bad things are in the Kenyan military. Crappy equipment, theft of monies, low morale, promotion based on tribe rather than merit, low pay,.....
The soldiers and marines that fought for the US in ww2 were subject to physical punishment. I wouldn't say they have low morale or were any more abusive than any other nations standard soldiers (IE no SS, NKVD, Unit 731 etc). On the inverse side the soldiers today don't show any of those traits either. Both styles can work it's just how you see things that matter. Besides soldiers today in the US are subject to mental abuse (unnoficially that is lots of dumb rules are being put in place to make bct too easy) which is just as destructive as physical abuse.

My last point on the matter....having academics and researchers working abroad at specific institutions does not equal having the technical know-how to design, industrialise and manufacture. Writing a thesis on a topic does not mean know-how. You're lying to yourself if you think 4 guys who specialise in radar, means its then possible to design & build radar for an A29 type programme. You would need dozens of radar specialists alone to pull that off. Its a huge task. Then add in flutter analysis, then add in vibration specialists, etc etc....10 years minimum as I say.

Britain sent a whole boat load of nuclear scientists who assisted the US build the 1st atom bomb. When those scientist returned to the U.K, Britain still wasn't able to build a bomb on it's own. It took a considerable further effort to get one that worked.

But anyways, its not impossible for Nigeria. Will just take time. Have a good weekend.

I'm talking about practical knowledge. Like I said there's a Nigerian who's also working on the Chinese C-919 I once saw the name on AFIT website.

I personally also know a PhD student in my school from Pakistan who works on the project too. I once asked him if he knows the guy but he says there are alot of guys here and everything on the aircraft isn't done at his own facility so he doesn't know the person.

I'm sure aselsan isn't an academic institution so the guys there are not learning in terms of academic but practical.

My own point is that we not having a good aerospace sector doesn't mean we don't have people with technical knowledge in the sector.

It happened to the British doesn't mean it's same everywhere. Alot of countries got it right also so we can too.

Have a good weekend too smiley

Thank you Nemesis.
I wish Algerian were here I said this last year.
I know my Nigerian brothers were impatient but this is taking the biscuit.
In 2015 Nigeria renegotiated the Helicopter deal with Russia for all weather, more ammo, more rockets.
The result? The first Helicopters did not arrive till 2017.
Nemesis please tell my brothers what India went through with the SU27.
Please tell them what was the eventual outcome..
Memo to Naija.
Whether you buy Brand New Planes from Russia or America , The first two will not arrive till 2020.
Henry for a crop duster you don't need to buy PGMs nor a simulator.
Lastly even for $1B Russia will not go into a joint venture with ANY Country. to develop any plane.
If they wouldn't do it with Algeria why would they do it with Nigeria. At best they will give you a license to manufacture APCs , Tanks and Small arms.

For Su30 there was lot of wahala grin
And it continues till date grin

Why did Nigeria buy RM-70 when you have APR–40's which out-range it?

Some of the purchases were soo dodgy
Let me answer this:
This actually was one of the few purchases that the GEJ administration got right.
The Nigerian Army actually requested the RM-70 specifically. This wasn't a dodgy purchases they wanted something that wasn't so " long range" but could still saturate an area, it has proved highly effective especially in the Sambisa Forest + plus they are very mobile and easy to train personnel on.
Please also bear in mind the NA has these in their arsenal of ARTILLERY
D-30 ( Used to retake GWOZA)
HALIBUT FH77
PALMARA
ETC
These are all good arty systems but the RM 70 does not need an extensive time for set up ( mobility is not an issue) can quickly saturate an area and move on to another grid location.

i am trying to fathom how you can hire someone who has a criminal record, when you job is to keep track of this criminals

The South African Police Service recently admitted that hundreds of serving police officers are convicted criminals. The figures are shocking but they fail to reveal the full extent of criminality in the police.PDATE – 23 July 2014: Last year the South African Police Service revealed that a “protracted” and “thorough” audit of the police’s ranks had found that 1,448 serving police officers were convicted criminals. Lieutenant-General Nkrumah Mazibuko – the acting deputy national commissioner for human resource management – told the country’s parliament at the time that action would be taken within a year to clean out the police’s ranks. Pressured by MPs for a timeframe, he offered a “temporary date” of June 2014 for the police’s fitness boards to finish evaluating all the cases.

That hasn’t happened. According to a report in the Afrikaans daily newspaper, Die Burger, South Africa’s new police minister Nathi Nhleko said this week – in response to questions from the opposition Democratic Alliance – that all 1,448 police remain on active duty. According to Nhleko, the Labour Court ruled last month that the work of the fitness boards was illegal, invalid and without any legal force. This followed legal action by the police union Popcru. The South African Police Service (SAPS) revealed recently that 1,448 serving police officers are convicted criminals, among them a major-general, ten brigadiers, 21 colonels, ten majors, 43 lieutenant-colonels, 163 captains, 84 lieutenants and 716 warrant officers. And it has hesitantly promised to rid the police of these “unwanted elements” by June 2014.

Is this, as the police implied, the extent of criminality in the police service? If true, it would mean that fewer than one percent of South Africa’s 157,470 police have been involved in criminal activity. Furthermore, is the commitment to rid the police of convicted criminals serious? If so, what is the evidence?
National police minister Nathi Mthethwa described the audit which produced the figure as “protracted” and “thorough“. The 1,448 police it uncovered had all been convicted of “serious crimes” ranging from murder and attempted murder to rape, assault, corruption, theft, robbery, house-breaking, drug trafficking, domestic violence and aiding escapees. At least 64 of them are currently based at police headquarters.

It's funny how you always dig out whatever dirt you can find on South Africa. Make peace with whatever beef you have. Get over it. Digging out articles from 4 years ago. Hundreds of police officers have been fired since then for being criminal elements. It's clear there was a time in South Africa's past where the correct checks and balances were not made.

As for "you can't fathom". Yes you can, you can very much fathom such. Or if we were to dig up dirt on your native land of Sweden we wouldn't find anything? Please.
