You and I know that many COREN certified ones have collapsed or that there are thousands of ongoing uncertified ones that they are yet to raise alarm about. This particular case is that of false alarm and attaching Okorocha's name in particular proves it's political.

1. Because the governor would not have been so stupid as to construct a bridge without engineering design, after all he's not the one building by himself, he must have given the contract to a licensed contractor.
2. The wailer should have sought the audience of the governor privately, with his position this should not be too difficult, instead of coming to cry over spilt milk online.

while COREN may be correct on paper, this is probably the real issue. most regulatory bodies in Nigeria end up as clearing houses. your average lasbca official is not concerned about whether your building will collapse, he simply wants his egunje. drop that and you are free to continue. Do not and he will reel out all the real and imagined violations in the book. i do not expect that these guys are any different.

Rochas has simply engaged some construction guys and bypassed the entire approval process. he better hope the contractors he engaged actually know what they are doing. because if the contractors are more corrupt than competent it could get very messy very quickly.

This would be fatal if it is true and it happens that way..We Nigerians should always endeavor to do the eight thing and enforce the right standard at the right time and everytime

Most don’t, plus buildings with structural designs have also collapsed in advance enclaves. Buildings collapse for many reasons, inadequate structure is just one of those.

Question for you: Because not everyone sick person that is taken to the hospital survivals, will you as result refuse to go to the hospital when sick?

I still marvel at how the Arabs took over Engineering construction works in Nigeria.

It seems that Nigerian engineers can calculate that 100m is equivalent to 30.48m...until you tell them to measure it with a tape.

Every aspect and organs of our country is just warped.

I saw a design of a restaurant made in Canada recently and what interests me there is that the construction drawing is more than 150 pages with up to 7 different firms of profession listed on the cover page, with each category of the drawing having detailed specifications of what should be used, installed, the number of users (staffs, custormers, etc)expected to use each of the provided facilities.

The professional bodies are supposed to take the lead role for the standard of constructions in the country. The town planning authority that should consist of professionals like town/urban planner, architect, civil engineer, structural engineer, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, estate valuer etc should exist at different levels of government, to ensure that a minimum acceptable standard is met before giving approval and go ahead for any kind of project.

Its not suppose to be a politician waking up and start a project/construction with no proper environmental impact assessment and necessary approvals gotten from the relevant bodies.

I think the country will fare better, if professional bodies can sit up to their responsibilities, and come up with necessary acts and policies that will protect the citizens of the country from quackery and avoidable loss of lives.
