I saw a design of a restaurant made in Canada recently and what interests me there is that the construction drawing is more than 150 pages with up to 7 different firms of profession listed on the cover page, with each category of the drawing having detailed specifications of what should be used, installed, the number of users (staffs, custormers, etc)expected to use each of the provided facilities.

The professional bodies are supposed to take the lead role for the standard of constructions in the country. The town planning authority that should consist of professionals like town/urban planner, architect, civil engineer, structural engineer, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, estate valuer etc should exist at different levels of government, to ensure that a minimum acceptable standard is met before giving approval and go ahead for any kind of project.

Its not suppose to be a politician waking up and start a project/construction with no proper environmental impact assessment and necessary approvals gotten from the relevant bodies.

I think the country will fare better, if professional bodies can sit up to their responsibilities, and come up with necessary acts and policies that will protect the citizens of the country from quackery and avoidable loss of lives.

Must we always allow the white man to set standards for us?
You saw a drawing from Canada and you think its the best for us?
what happened to developing our own methods of building?

Structural engineers e.t.c will also design likewise a draftsman.
When you are talking about design of Bridges you will talk to an architect first b4 a structural engineer.

Bro in construction we have 4 type of design
Mechanical design ( plumbing ,heating ,etc )
Structural design ( force resolution and beam structure calculation )
Electrical design the wire design and all that
Architect design the house concept and put all the other design into one

One if the key benefits of this forum is promotion of knowledge through information sharing. As a people, let Nigerians are known globally as people that love pursue of knowledge, therefore, people act in the way Gov Okorocha is acting, by ignoring the rules to errect structures, collapse of building can and will occur to because quacks will replace professionals and people with your type of mindset will still blame the professionals.
