Duh, You were not forced the Head Multiple Ministries, you willingly accepted the offer.

The Legislators job is to carry-out regular oversight functions of those ministries.

The Legislators are doing their job, report to them any time they invite you.

Nigeria's minister for Power, Works, and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has cried out that the frequent probes by the House of Representatives on issues affecting the Ministry are distracting him.

On Wednesday, Fashola vented his frustration to the assembly while facing an investigative hearing on the transmission company of Nigeria(TCN) organized by the House representatives committee on power.

“We closed here last week and we are resuming this week with this committee. Committees of the House also will be asking us of our budget performance and we just need to work in the office so that we can also perform. So, I think there’s a sense here that I respectfully ask you to sufficiently use this time so we can also work to serve the Nigerian people.

We have a letter dated December 20, 2017, and that letter was issued under the name of one Nnamdi D. Onuigwe Esqr, Committee Clerk. And, it’s from the House of Representatives, saying the House has constituted an ad hoc committee on the need to investigate the Fiscal Responsibility and Procurement Acts by the TCN. It was pursuant to House resolution 114/ADHOT/TCN2 of December 20."

Now, we were waiting to be invited by the ad hoc committee when we got this letter asking us to come today, signed by Ibrahim Sidi, Committee Clerk pursuant to House resolution 189 of December 5, 2017. Although, it’s headed as “Need To facilitate Swift action on management of TCN Electric Power Reforms, it goes in the body to ask us to come and explain to this investigative committee the interim management of TCN on the delay in the implementation of projects such as the Nigerian Electricity Gas Improvement project that will improve power sector in Nigeria.

So, I seek clarification in order to assist the committee in its work and if it’s possible, to harmonize all of what we want to do together, bearing in mind that this House substantially is handling some possibly over-lapping issues."

Frequent excuses don't get the job done. Mr Fashola,if you had a staff in your personal company who's always full of excuses, would you continue to pay him;I'm sure you wouldn't waste time in sacking him.

Fashola, you are the political head of the ministry (or as pmb prefers, the noisemaker), & it is your job to provide cover & deal with the political side of things while allowing the professionals to work & deliver on the targets...

or is Fashola scared of being probed?
how can he be, he doesn't sign cheques!
Re: Frequent Corruption Probes Are Distracting Me - Fashola by Nobody: 12:06pm On Jan 30, 2018
Quit interesting.....

If Mr. Fashola does not have a skeleton in his closet, why are the probes bothering him?
If you're worried about the probes, clearly you're afraid they will find something incriminating. If not, why are the probes giving you sleepless nights, Mr. Fashola?

nigerians and bureaucracy, seems we all read different article or our understanding isnt the same, the probing is by the same house of rep on same subject but different committee, they could have harmonize their probing instead of sending 2 invites, or one should hands off the subject while the first continues.

He is not only the cover provider, his main job is decision making! How does he do that when he spend all his time with one committee or the other reviewing his past decision? The professionals are to provide with with information he need to make decisions and then implement decisions he has made
my answer was in direct response to Fashola trying to excuse himself from being probed.

if we go on to list all his responsibilities, it will be extensive...

but key among his responsibilities is dealing with the political side of things. he represents the direction which an administration wishes to go & that is why the position of a minister is not like that of a civil/public servant.

if Fashola was straightforward, I doubt he will be called regularly to explain issues. last week he was praised, he didn't complain, now that his lapses are shown up, he is tired of probe...

lol...

He probably refuse to pay to their tune..

Allow Raji Fashola to concentrate!

His effort is beginning to pay off!

Agree on a time or period he can give feedbacks

Fashola, if them no hear, make provision for a department that would represent you at such meetings

Go back and read the story. As he is appearing before them, he has another invitation to still appear before them. He is asking that all the matter to be discussed be consolidated so he can come once and for all and have time to face his duty. Does what he is saying make sense?

Let's be honest, non-diligence is out of it. At least, Power Supply has remarkably improved in the past few weeks. Thank God for that. smiley

Did the probing start as soon as he assumed office...?
Why do people keep making excuses for these incompetent government officials?
If he had done what he was supposed to do since he assumed office, he wouldn't be summoned for probing and questioning... would he?
