Palestine has absolutely nothing to offer us, it is unwise to prioritize them above the US.

Coil gun and rail gun utilises the same operating principle but r kind of different.

Imagine 10 people standing next to each other on the side of a stream.
The 1st person on one end shoves the boat and let's go of it, next instant the 2nd person shoves the boat and adds to the initial velocity / momentum of the boat, and this happens sequentially. As a result the boat gains in speed incrementally at each persons shove , when the boat recieves the last shove at the 10th man the boat ends up with the highest velocity.
This is COIL GUN for u. A projectile is sequentially passed through on/off electromagnetic coils to generate high velocity.

Now imagine a boat across a stream and 2 man at either ends pulling it at high speed, if they can generate high momentum wile running they will impart the same velocity to the boat.
This is RAIL GUN for u. A projectile is placed between 2 guide rails connected to 2 ends of a power source, placement of the projectile completes the circuit and this generates a rotating magnetic field on the rails and the interaction of the magnetic field and flowing electrons generates a force field radiating outwards along the rail which carries the projectile under its influence.

In a rail gun very high temperature , very large magnetic fields and high plasma pressure is encountered leading to very high wear and tear (alloying also is a common phenomenon). I think significant research needs to be done to come up with exotic materials which can give significant barrel life. It will take time.

I am not aware of the materials being used since these r not actually publishized nor it is my field.

I believe this is a PR attempt by the Chinese. What they r doing is scaling up the dimensions of the laboratory test article , and will use the test results to support their research into rail guns.

Important thing is what r Ur goals and not the time frame.

DRDO has been testing railguns of various sorts in the labs since 90s , even then they r very very far from making a functional prototype forget about something remotely close to a production model.

It's good that countries r taking up research and development in this field , becz chances r that nobody will sell u the tech. And which country is that ?
