The 1k was more of a symbolic gesture from me. Marriage for a girl is what every reasonable son would wish for his sisters but not at the expense of her happiness or being treated like an item that was sold at a price.

I will give out my daughter free to her future husband - She is a gift to the man and not a tuber of yam.

Apart from the List, most Akwa Ibom ladies are nothing to write home about.
I'm from Akwa Ibom and I know what I'm talking about.
Imagine a lady you are in a relationship with and having in mind to marry will open her mouth and tell you she can't sweep ur house or do anything for you bcoz she's not your housemaid.

OP your opening statement about some parents being the reason their daughters aren't married is incorrect.
You don't need your parent's consent to get married. You don't need to pay a 'price' or have a 'price' paid on you to get married.
Two adult individuals who wish to get married should simply walk into a registry, fill in the necessary paperwork and get married.
All these bullcrap of parental/family/extended family consent, brideprice etc are meaningless and are not what confers validity on a marriage as erroneously thought of in this country.
...Well, I know all what I've written will be too complex for the vast majority of simple minded Nigerians to process.

I will never stop working till I'm pregnant and heavy. My husband can be rest assured the bills in my household would be shared 50/50.

I did not go to school and graduate to come out and be dependent on any man. But, he will respect my traditions and respect my family. Same way - will I tolerate his mother and remain hospitable to every member of his family.

I have lived in Akwa Ibom for 10 years and they do this a lot especially when their first daughter is getting married, it even get worse when there is burial from the wife's side

Another friend's father returned part of the dowry to his son in-law after everything to support their beginning.
