The j20

Mass Production and cost

The J-20 has now entered low-rate initial production (LRIP), the small-quantity testing phase prior to mass production. Estimates of J-20 cost ranging from $30 million to up to $120 million. The F-22 had a per-unit cost of $143 million while the T-50 is estimated to cost less than $100 million. China capable of mass-producing the J-20. Higher-end estimates indicate that several hundred J-20s will be produced to replace older fighters.

You can perform recon with the Tucano. So there will be situational awareness. However, Nigeria has the habbit of having dedicated ISR platform covering air operations

Planes in general are fairly fragile when it comes to AA. Even the "flying tanks" like the A10, Su 25, and old IL2 are/were susceptible to good air defense. Don't let this persuade you that the Tucano will be easily shot down. With proper Intel the Tucano could kill the zsu truck from well out of range.

Exactly why it's fitted with precision guided rockets. NAF won't take a chance in letting those jets get downed by BHT.

PRESS RELEASE

THEATRE COMMANDER MEETS WITH HEADS OF SECURITY AGENCIES AND NGOs IN BORNO STATE... Says operations are guided by Rules of Engagement and Human Rights.

The Theatre Commander Operation Lafiya Dole Major General Rogers Nicholas today met with Heads of Security Agencies and Non Governmental Organizations ( NGO) at the Headquarters, Theatre Command, Maiduguri to deliberate on issues bordering on security and humanitarian activities in the north east theatre of operation.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, General Nicholas who expressed immense appreciation for the humanitarian support of the NGOs to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the north east, stated that the meeting became necessary to address some unpleasant challenges arising from both security and humanitarian activities in the region. He disclosed that some unregistered NGOs have found their way to the theatre and are operating without proper documentation with appropriate Government supervisory agencies. The activities of such NGOs, the Theatre commander noted were undermining security in the theatre. He urged all unregistered NGOs within the theatre to do so within two weeks, as unregistered NGOs will no longer have access to IDP camps and thorough fare at security check points.

The Theatre Commander also enjoined all NGOs in the Theatre to ensure that conveyance of relief materials locations in the theatre be conducted with road worthy vehicles to minimise the incidents of breakdown, upon which the insurgents capitalise to pilfer food, fuel and other logistics. Reminding the NGOs of their neutrality and impartiality operational principles, General Nicholas urged the NGOs to stick to their statutory and organisational roles and avoid meddling in activities that could jeopardize security. He reiterated the support of all security agencies under the aegis of Operation Lafiya Dole for the NGOs in the theatre of operation.

The meeting was attended by heads of security agencies, relevant government parastatals in Borno state and representatives of NGOs.

In a related development, a delegation from the Centre for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) was today led in a working visit to the Headquarters, Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole by the organization's Executive Director Frederico Borolo. Describing the organization's role in conflict, Borolo said the main objective of the Centre is to prevent and protect civilians from harm in conflict situations, adding that the Centre is a bridge between the military and civilians in conflict regions by working with the government and military actors to minimize conflict and its consequences on Nigerian population in the theatre of operation.

The Theatre commander Major General Rogers Nicholas assured the delegation that troops' operations are guided by an operational code of conduct, Rules of Engagement, and respect for Fundamental Human Rights as well as International Humanitarian Laws. He lauded the role of the Centre in protecting the civil populace, who he said are often times the victims in conflict situations. He recalled that over 3000 civilians have been rescued by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in the ongoing Operation Deep Punch 2. "In Operation Lafiya Dole, we are duty bound to rescue and protect civilians in the conduct of our operations ", General Nicholas stated.

HERDSMEN-FARMERS CLASHES: NAF TO ESTABLISH OPERATIONAL UNITS IN TARABA STATES, BENUE-NASSARAWA AXIS

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, today disclosed plans by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to establish a Forward Operational Base (FOB) in Taraba State, as part of plans to further tackle the incessant herdsmen-farmers clash in the country. The CAS, who disclosed the plans while delivering a lecture to participants of National Defence College (NDC) Course 26 in Abuja, also announced plans to establish a Quick Response Wing along the Benue-Nassarawa Axis. The title of the lecture, which lasted one hour, was ‘The Nigerian Air Force - Challenges and Future Perspectives’. Participants of the Course are drawn from senior officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and those of sister African countries, senior officials of other security agencies in Nigeria as well as those of Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The lecture afforded the CAS to share thoughts with the participants on how the National Defence Policy prescribes that the NAF should be employed, out of which the mission statement of the NAF was coined. Air Marshal Abubakar also spoke on the current and likely threats as well as contingencies from the perspective of air operations. He then elucidated on his vision for the NAF while also highlighting current efforts at actualizing it. Some of the initiatives included but are not limited to the establishment of new commands and some units, improvement in human capacity development, improved aircraft serviceability and logistics support as well as enhanced personnel welfare. He also spoke about the efforts being made in the area of research and development towards improved self-sufficiency, as a result of which the NAF is currently making great savings in foreign exchange. Thereafter, he discussed the current NAF Force structure, doctrine, current capabilities and equipment holding in response to threats alongside the NAF’s strategic plan before looking at NAF future perspectives. The CAS equally examined the challenges and constraints to the NAF’s air power effectiveness before concluding the lecture by discussing the strategies to countering the challenges enumerated. The lecture was followed by a stimulating interactive session.

In his closing remarks, the Commandant of NDC, Rear Admiral Adeniyi Osinowo, declared that “You cannot win any war today without an effective and virile Air Force”. He then added that there was no doubt that the current NAF leadership is taking a lot of laudable and unprecedented steps, especially in the area of technological development, in a bid to reposition the NAF for greatness. He particularly cited the recent feats by the NAF in locally designing and producing an operational Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, among many other breakthroughs in the area of research and development. He then seized the opportunity to congratulate the CAS on the recent passage of the bill establishing the Air Force Institute of Technology Kaduna, which he believed would further enhance technological growth in the NAF.

It is recalled that the NAF had also earlier announced plans to establish FOBs in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, as part of its commitment to combatting emerging security challenges in those parts of the country.

I'm no expert, but where is your database? You are gonna use facial recognition to find people whose's name isn't in any database, they have no ID cards, no passport, nothing. lol. And here we are talking about a country with very limited CCTV network. i guess you mistaken Nigeria for developed countries lol, heck, is there even electricity to power the system? lol. It would hurt nobody if DSS gets the video, carefully analyze each faces and store them in their database of wanted criminals.
Till we finally get a leader that sees the importance of a sophisticated national database like most other reasonable country.
That was what I was talking about.

I think what the police of DSS should do is to collect and harmonize data from INEC, NIMC, Banks (banks may refuse though), Immigration e.t.c. I think they would have the basic profile of more than 50% of the population when this is done. Then they can build from there. (my opinion).

I got the joke alright. I was only showing that it wouldn't always be like that in the eastern side of Kenya , and that why I pointed out at the projects which would cost up to $30B when combined,,,,some of that investment will come from western companies, and they all pass through this insecure part of Kenya , even SA Development Bank has investments worth/loan worth $1.9B,India too wants a package, China wants the whole thing, US wants to build the rail to Ethiopia, to counter the one built by china from mombasa port, so its in everybody's interest that this region gets secured first.... B4 construction begins or else no one gets anything.

You'll need banks data, passport, simcards, immigration , FRSC (driver's license) and others. I can bet it that the first state to have such large coverage in Nigeria will be Oyo state.

The state CCTV network which would start this year includes traffic CCTV cameras.

All they have to do is make it compulsory for people to carry an ID, which means police should stop and ask people for IDs at random, they do that here in New York where i live, and here in New York if the police stop you and you have no ID on you, they arrest you until your identity can be verified, yet no law in America says you must carry an ID with you. ( so there is a friction there)
So if Nigeria can do that, then you simply scan those faces with that ID database, here it's call DMV database.
If we are talking about tracking suspects in general that is, not BOKO, obviously most BOKO fighters won't have ID, who's gonna go into their hideout to check lol.
We have a long way to go to have these things situated, infrastructure, stable power, secure database that must not be breached, trusted individuals that will monitor and maintain such database etc.
So if we could have driver license database, that will help. The infrastructure is needed, which we don't have yet .It will get better.
