Hi great car enthusiats
Car is a 07 Lexus RX350 , runs fine, no issues, but one thing usually happens once in long while.
I get this short 2 sec moderate to loud rattle on cold start, happens once in a blue moon ........you may not hear it for months.
The way i can describe it is like the sound of a spanner or metal sound shaking, a rattle , but not grinding sound.

Now i checked Lexus forums, and i read its common with GS350, RX350 e.t.c and they mentioned VVT, Cam shaft timing, Timing belt/chain tensioner, hydrollic lifters e.t.c.

Please who have experienced this , what could it be and how did you fix it.

I noticed this problem with my 2007 Lexus RX350 last year. When i changed the oil the rattle noise went away and later it resurfaced close to when it was due to for another oil change. I just changed my oil in January and the noise went off and came back just last week and I am determined to get ride of it because it is really annoying. I read some posts in different forums as you have highlighted and saw there was actually a recall from Lexus for the camshaft gear which is the problem. Since we do not have dealership in Nigeria I do not know what to do. @Whynow Please let me know if you have been able to resolve it.

@whynow,i had same problem with my RX 330 O5,it grew worse over time,the mecho suspected a bunch of parts in the engine that has gone bad as the culprit.I detest having theatricals with mechanics, I had to change the engine.

Use the oil recommended .for your car. There is no other method

I started using mobil 1 5w30 extended performance and seem to have stopped. Not heard the sound since then.
