Pls, how can explain this common and simple arithmetics:

-2 - - 3 = 1

Pls, give real life examples to explain this to kids.

Let me take you through basic operations..

+ × - = -

- × + = -

+ × + = +

- × - = +

Now, explaining this with real life situations;

If ENEMY is the negative sign (-)
and FRIEND is the positive sign (+),

therefore;

1. the Friend of your Enemy = YOUR ENEMY
That is, + × - = -

2. the Enemy of your Friend = YOUR ENEMY
that is, - × + = -

3. the Friend of your Friend = YOUR FRIEND
that is, + × + = +

4. the Enemy of your Enemy = YOUR FRIEND
that is, - × - = +

But, you've not answered it completely: -2-- -- 3 =1
I didn't say: --2x--3.

Relate the former to real life. Not teaching pupils rot learning all the time.

-2-- -- 3 =1
to solve we put -3 in a bracket
-2 - (-3)
NOTE: -(-3) = +3
so -2+3 = 1 (-2 means you're subtracting 2 from 3 which now gives you 1)
