No wonder the police, up to the IGP, are so useless.

Wrong information. These are not total package they are just basic salary without allowances by the time you add, housing, transport, wardrobe, inconvenient, education, hazard etc

Don't forget that Nigeria minimum wage is 18000 so how come police recruit earn 9000

The lowest rank in the police is constable. A police recruit is simply a police in training. Even though that doesn't justify why they should be paid 9k, i just need to clear the misconception

Ur head dey there jare, some people just dey reason with their buttock, during the training of shortlisted candidates of each military and paramilitary forces they're entitle to training allowance/stipend monthly during the training duration

Whats so bad about the salary? How much graduate dey see per month? Police should be ashamed of themselves. Apart from the recruit who earns 9k the rest salaries are pretty normal. And they keep behaving like their salaries are structured in hell fire. It shall not be well with this evil men

How can we say we are fighting corruption in the police with a structure like this? We can't fight corruption without addressing the root cause. Over to the authorities, do the needful and your anti-corruption campaign in the police will have a smooth sail.

A police recruit is being fed and accommodate during this period at the academy after passing out he/she becomes a constable.

The #9000 for recruits are those undergoing training. I don't think police recruit are deployed on the road. Even NDA pays their recruit in school.
The lowest police officer on the road earns 43,000

A degree holder starts with the ASP rank (136k+). Their counterparts in NPower earn only 30k while their counterparts in Nigerian Universities are not earning anything better.

Nothing is wrong with that salary structure. Those condemning this are hypocrites, you all have graduate relatives earning 10k in the same country where your corrupt police officers with terrible BSc results earn 136k.

Most of the professors in this country do not earn N600k monthly, and here you have the IGP with a take home pay of 700k.

Police recruit don't stay at checkpoints. Police recruit is the rank they have while in training. The first rank of a confirmed policeman is constable. Recruits are not policemen yet.

That said, the salary could be better.

Compare the pay of some1 that join civil service to that of nigeria police force with O' Level
Compare the pay of graduate assistance in a federal university to the pay of ASP in the nigeria police after all both join using there first degree and all will be amaze that nigerian police are even paid better.
Just some weeks ago, about 5 state that paid the highest salary to there directors in civil service graced the front page of nairaland, you all need to see the meagre income receive by those directors and do you knw how many year these directors must have been in service b4 attaining the position of directors
Our focus shouldn't just be on the nigerian police, most civil workers are just simply not paid well, the few among them that live flamboyant life are those that have other things going or embezzled money

With all this salaries the federal controlled police are still grossly corrupt and inefficient.

Many states are clamouring for STATE POLICE.

I hope they will be able to pay this BIG SALARIES TO THEIR OWN STATE POLICE by the time the federal government in conjuction with the national house of assembly agree to create STATE POLICE.

I see DELTA STATE, RIVERS STATE, BAYELSA STATE, AKWA IBOM, CROSS RIVERS, EDO STATE, ONDO STATE, LAGOS STATE, OGUN STATE, ANAMBRA STATE, IMO STATE as bouyant state that have the financial muscle to pay state police.

State in Nigeria that decides to establish state police should have a policing that is targeted at their own specific needs with a managable size so that they can efficiently fund it.

The police non commissioned officers basic salary ,is almost if not equivalent to that of the actual salary structure of thier non commissioned military counterpart . Maybe other allowances attached might differ. That doesn't give them the excuse to be dirty literally act dirty and harass the general public with extortion and Physical abuse.

Something very very cancerous has eaten the Nigerian police force. The entire system needs to be evaluated
