One of the exciting things about Canaanland Nigeria is it's acknowledgement of the Jewish roots of Christianedom in the Architecture.

To understand the Judeo-Christian inspiration behind Covenant University, we need to first understand the physical context of the university. Canaanland Ota was procured in the 90s and immediately the land was bought the church divided it into four parts of

1) Shiloh: This today is where the faith tabernacle is situated.
2) Moriah: This today is where the Faith Academy is Situated
3) Rehoboat Gilead: This today is where Pastors Reside in Canaanland
4) Hebron: This today is where my Almamater, Covenant University is situated.

Today I would be focusing on Hebron or more popularly known as Covenant University - The Birth Place Of Kings and Queens!

The Real Hebron is the site of the oldest Jewish community in the world, which dates back to Biblical times. The Book of Genesis relates that Abraham purchased the field where the Tomb of the Patriarchs is located as a burial place for his wife Sarah. According to Jewish tradition, the Patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the Matriarchs Sarah, Rebekah, and Leah are buried in the Tomb.

Hebron has a long and rich Jewish history. It was one of the first places where the Patriarch Abraham resided after his arrival in Canaan. King David was anointed in Hebron, where he reigned for seven years.

Hebron contains many sites of Jewish religious and historical significance, in addition to the Tomb of the Patriarchs. These include the Tombs of Othniel Ben Kenaz (the first Judge of Israel) and Avner Ben Ner (general and confidante to Kings Saul and David), and Ruth and Jesse (great-grandmother and father, respectively, of King David)...

Numbers 13:22 states that (Canaanite) Hebron was founded seven years before the Egyptian town of Zoan, i.e. around 1720 BCE, and the ancient (Canaanite and Israelite) city of Hebron was situated at Tel Rumeida.



Covenant University today prides herself in training Kings and Queens of Hebron(Put in Mind that Hebron is Where King David became Anointed) hence The So Much Emphasis on Judaist Architecture. Worthy of note is also that Neither Covenant or the affiliate owners(Winners Chapel) convey the practice of Judaism nor honour it's festivals because mainstream Christian Ministries see Judaism as a Predecessor of Christianity and not an Alternate Religion. In many ways Christianity is an Evolution of Judaism hence it is still interesting to see an acknowledgement of the Old Testament or Torah in Covenant University's physical Architecture.

Covenant University Chapel:

Inspiration: Crown of David

This is one of the Biggest Edifices at the University with a Capacity to house 3,500 - 4,000 worshippers at the Same time. The hall also plays host to the Inaugural lectures, Variety Nights, Convocation and Matriculation events. The chapel is situated at the centre of the University which informs the importance the University places on Spirituality

Covenant University Research Center

Building Inspiration: Eagle

The Research Center is a new Multidisciplinary Research center with 29 Research Clusters ranging from Renewable energy, IoT to Biotech and many other research areas. The building has 7 floors, 12 Conference rooms, a glass pent house and 24 high-tech glass partitioned laboratories.The Basement of the building has the NOC - Networking Operating Centre with Gadgets to run both Covenant University and the Living Faith Church.

Inspiration:
Star Of David
Star of David also known as Shield of David or Seal of Solomon is a common symbol in Judaism. The symbol is Present in Isreal's national flag, defense forces flag and ambulances.

According to Jews "The six sided figure symbolizes that God rules over the universe and protects us from all six directions: north, south, east, west, up, and down with the middle - the hexagram - providing the spiritual dimension.
The Star of David symbol helps remind us that despite our efforts to accomplish in this world, just like God decided that King David would be successful in defeating armies much greater then his own, so too will God help us accomplish our goals."

Building Inspiration: The Seven Candle Sticks

These are some of the oldest buildings at the university. Each made up of 7 blocks of buildings to represent a candle each. Five of the blocks are visible from either the back or front with the two remaining blocks joining the blocks at the front.

"And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.” Rev 1:12-13

I did say that Covenant has changed from ancient architecture to more modern ones. But even religiously symbolic buildings are still very cool and can be high tech. In fact many universities outside the country still have a combination of traditional and futuristic buildings. The likes of Cambridge and co still keep their chapels looking traditional while the interior has all the modern gadgets. For instance the PG hall which I exempted is well futuristic but has no religious meaning
(at least that I know of)
At your spare time check out University of Notre dame or Pepperdine University and you might like them more than MIT

While the University seems to be committed to building 'meaningful' buildings there seems to have been a shift away from Religiously symbolic buildings. But if the Proposed Twin CU Tech Hub and Landmark Arrow Head College building is anything to go by then more inspiring structures would still be erected.

E.g the PG hall here is very futuristic, same as most other structures coming up in the uni
