You are best free to pray to God...but never in anyway overlooks a doctor's report.

I've been coughing for about a week now, accompanied with sore throat, I complained to my Dr and he prescribed fansidar. Should I go ahead and use it?

Fansidar,I think should be a Category C medication for pregnancy. If it prescribed by your doctor, you can make use of it. Risk outweighs any harm done to mother and fetus provided it is not abuse and misuse.

Make una no vex say I no dey since o. The last two days have been horrific. Chesty cough one week after a c section is a terrible thing but God is greater than any devil.

Teamies yet to deliver, we are here for you. God has been in the business of seeing women through childbirth for centuries. He hasn't retired. He will see all of you through and we will enjoy the pepper soup together.

How God saved me from a doctor that would have harmed me.

I was actually down with maLaura when I tested +'ve for PT. So I couldn't take any medication cos of the foetus. Didn't want any stories. Malaria + all day pregnancy symptoms and discomfort. I was even trying to work (I'm a tailor) + DD and home front to cater for.

Last week Monday, I couldn't bear it, so off I went to the hospital ALGH IGANDO. Days where I used for my DD. Mind you any medication I'm given, I always double check to make sure that it's safe in pregnancy even before buying. Cos a doctor there once prescribed augmentin to me for cough and Catarrh. It while searching google that I read that it's not safe in pregnancy unless the good outweighs the bad.

So doctor man wrote arthemeter injections and com. Mind you I'm just 9 weeks gone oo. For some reasons, the injections were not available at d pharmacy. So I went Back to my local health centre with the prescription. They chased me away saying they can't administer it without official refferal.
So I went back home sick and downcast. Not knowing it is God at work.

My last option was the nurse that resides in my block. At night, myself and DH went to her. She just kept asking me dat was it a doctor that prescribed arthemeter at 9 weeks? So she called her consultant gynae, the man said arthemeter causes abortion and it's totally unsafe in early pregnancy except for advanced stages. That it's CQ that is safe.

My mind went to a lady that took that earthenware injections at 9 weeks during my first Peggy. I was 11 weeks then, but was taking CQ. I never saw d lady again during antenatal.

Mama's please lets take charge of our health. Seek second opinion, make google your friend.

Pls don't wait till Tuesday.... drink plenty of water and go today.....
Happened to me when I was at 22wks and next thing I started having labour contractions about a a week later......
My doc said it was dehydration that triggered it following the episode of diarrhoea I had......

Your doctor just ignored your complaint.
The Fansidar is routine, just had my third and last dose 2 days ago at 33weeks.
1st was at 18 weeks
2nd was 28weeks
3rd should have been 4 weeks apart, j guess they forgot,

I don't know sha...
I think you should just focus on home remedy.

When it comes to malaria medications the Obstetric community has seriously being changing their minds on the safest medication to use.....
CQ for example has being implicated in causing first trimester abortion but is now used as they said it's not the main cause after more research......
Some consultants prescribe Lonart even in first trimester and artemeter injection based on susceptibility in their area and has being shown to be effective......

Now it's generally accepted that it's safe and fansider can be used for prophylaxis but not earlier than 16wks and not later than 36wks......

In matters like this however better to just book for antenatal (Never too early to do that) and follow the advice of your consultant as he has greater experience in the field.......

And that lady u never saw might be due to various reasons...... not just because of the injection........

My dear, na real horror.
I suffered for a whole day, crying my eyes out because dh wasn't home or even nearby for that matter, which added catarrh to the mix. It was just me and the four kids. In all of that, I prayed my baby wouldn't get sick and he didn't, thank God.
I used Diplofenac for the pain and it worked marvellously. The cough is being treated and I'm on full time "mummying" duty..

Motherhood isn't beans.

it went well sis, the doc asked me to drink lots of water and then prescribe a drug for me which I took in the morning, ever since then hav not visited d toilet. God bless u

Thanks for the reply. The malaria drugs was prescribed and dispensed at the hospital. The Pharmacist also confirmed the gestation age from me before dispensing.

The headache i was having prior to taking the drugs and rhe elevated blood pressure has reduced.

Good! Good! Try to manage yourself. I am not too quick at prescribing antimalarials for preggies,I don't feel too comfortable with it. Except a lab result implicate carrying the P. falciparum,I will always find a way to maneuver her conditions to a stand still.

Wait! I happened to cross this thread after my rest. Though I have answered just right on the use of Fansidar,but I am so pricked that you complaint of Cough and Sore-throat and he gave you Fansidar which fell to my unknowing cause I really didn't mashed properly on it due to other eye activities on my handle.

Why the Fansidar? Did you complain of any symptom in addition to the former associating with malaria fever?

Have you started using the medication?
