slimfit1:This herdsmen don't want to pay for anything in this country. They always want it free. You practice animal husbandry, you can buy land, you don't pay task, you don't support the government or the host community in any way. They are just parasite, pure parasite to their host community. |

laliga01:Buy land for ranching? You meant to tell me that they really have financial muscles to go into ranching without government assistance? Farmers in all these developed countries where we import grains and animal products still enjoy government supports at all levels and in different ways. I'm just curious why many of you are always showing displeasure at the mention of government rendering assistance to herdsmen to get them settled. And many of you would still be claiming that you want the crisis and killings to stop. |

If we go by your analogy, that means govt should support any body or tribe that wants to do business, be it farming, poultry, animal husbandry, spare parts, chemicals or factory for large productions. These guys do business to make profit without task or levy. Most of these farmers, did govt give them land? Benue is regarded as the food basket of the nation. Should govt apportion land for them in every states just because they predominantly farmers. Nigga use your head to think. All these things are individuals business. Cattle owners can get ranch then govt can assist them in grass or maybe water for their cattles and stuff like that. maasoap: |

laliga01:Are you sure you yourself are using your brain? 1) Cattle ranching or colonies doesn't have to be about one tribe. That's the mistake all you are making. If there are ranches, colonies or grazing zones, any tribe can go into cattle rearing. 2) You're saying that government should also support spare parts dealers, chemicals productions and so on. What kind of childish argument is that? Buhari administration has been giving support to the rice farmers since year one in office. How much did Jonathan’s administration give to Nollywood to support them. It looks like you just woke up to idea of government giving support to certain sectors they are interested in. Here, we're talking about how to stop everyday clashes and killings. Do people like you really interested in everlasting peace? 3) Who says if the government provides land, the herdsmen (from all tribes) that make use of it won't be required to pay taxes. And in case you don't know, some states have embraced the initiative and there is nothing people like you can do to stop it. |

You av also made some valid points, but my argument is animal husbandry is a personal business which anybody irrespective of the tribe if interested can venture into. Of which in these case we have a tribe which predominantly is their occupation, there is no crime about that. A business man starts it's business with the sole purpose of making profits which the cattle readers are not exempted. the farmers you talked about, govt gives them aid in likes of subsidize fertilizer, equipment and other stuffs and I have never herd them going into other people's business to destroy them and cause them pain. The other way round, I will also support the govt to assist the cattle rearers in areas maybe vaccines, teach them how to grow grasses for grazing and all that. But first you have to find a location for your business. That's my point. A business man should be able to find appropriate location for his or her business because he/she will make profit from the business. It will be criminal to collect lands from indigenes of a state and give it to indigenes of another state for business. People go to other states to do business, there is no crime about that but you have to buy land to situate your business. There are igbo farmers in South west, did anybody give them land? NO. They bought the lands and started their farming. Don't make it look like one person hate the other, we should set our priorities right. Thank you. maasoap: |

We know the ones that embraced it. We were never surprised about them. They did as we all expected. maasoap: |

laliga01:Lands for ranching is not a child's play. You're talking about large expanse of land here. If government is ready to step in, I don't see why anyone who wants peace should stand against it as long as the owners of the land is adequately compensated not minding the fact that law says that the land belongs to the state governments. It is not as if the ownership will be automatically transferred to the herders. No. They will just be paying rents to the state governments. The alternative is not to rear cattle in Nigeria which is economically unwise for us as a country with over 170 million population. |

You have also made another valid point. Am sure your are also aware that the Kano state governor asked the herdsmen to come to Kano for ranching as Kano has enough land for as many herdsmen that are interested. It was openly rejected. Beside my point is, since herdsmen are predominantly from a tribe and their region is blessed with enough land to do their business. They can establish their ranch in the north at the same time set up milk production factory and pay their taxes to the respective states. People from the SW, SS AND se obviously are not in support as they don't have enough land for such. Geographically, 3 states in the north can cover the whole states in SE. Why do we always want to pretend we don't know the truth? maasoap: |

Before nko? The land going to used to establish these colonies are voluntarily granted to the FG by the respective states. If your state government wants to be no part of it then so be it. Why then are you southerners against the constitutional right of state governments to grant land to Fulani pastoralists? Did any come to your village asking for the right to graze on your ancestral lands?Who is the government if not the people, no individual not even the governor has the right to give land to murderers. And for your information my ancestral land is part of the state. |
