pazienza:u are an illiterate like one guy above me suggested when Lagos state was created in 1967 Lagos city alone still serve as the federal capital not Lagos the state. Ibadan suffers from infrastructure decay but when it was the capital of the western region no city could beat it and its gradually coming back daily now. Ikeja house massive private industry due to Awolowo under the western region before it became part of Lagos state so did many other city that were combined to make Lagos state. The fg proceeds u talk about was limited to Lagos city Other city improve their competition till Lagos was developed and now Ogun and oyo are doing the same. Are u saying every development that will eventually spread to all sw started in Lagos city if so why hasn’t Enugu the capital of eastern region or Anambra done the same for the east 7 Likes 1 Share |

Thetruthsayer10: You need help. Lagos state was handled as FCT by Nigerian FG from 1967 until Abuja became capital, and the governors of Lagos state served as equivalents of FCT ministers today, who not only took care of Abuja development, but surrounding towns of Gwagwalada and co. They took care of both the mainland and Island and provided infrastructures One of which was the 3rd mainland bridge. You need education. Enugu was never a capital of Nigeria, so I don't know the relevance of Enugu to this discussion. 11 Likes 1 Share |

pazienza: Na so. You people are fond of appropriating ready-made successes. Lagos ceased from being FCT as far back as 1991 and things only went DOWNHILL since then! The attention of the FG shifted to Abuja and Lagos suffered BIG TIME! Even today, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa IBom get more Federal allocation than Lagos. But with the coming of the fourth republic in 1999 Tinubu's administration set out to make the state self-sustaining. It's annual IGR has since increased from N11-billion in '99 to over N400-billion today! That didn't happen because it was a former FCT, NO. It happened because of the concerted efforts of its leadership since that time. The state has since witnessed unprecedented infrastructural development as a result of its LEADERSHIP. That is the TRUE STORY of the success of the Lagos of today. Had it not been for the leadership, the state would have continued to decay at the expense of Abuja's own development, but its administrators since '99 arrested that decay and made it into what it is today. No amount of fact-twisting to the contrary by you and your ilk will change that salient fact. 14 Likes 5 Shares |

pazienza: The FG has been taken the people of SE for a long ride and nobody is doing anything about it. The only reason the youths have not gone wild and revolted in a dangerous manner is becasue of the past civil war. If Nigeria had not had civil war before....worse things would have happened. The evil by the FG has continued for 50 years. How can people invest in the region with the worse FG roads? The quantity of power shared to the region is less, even when the region is the most likely to progress technologically....Easter MAN group listed the number of companies that have closed shop because of poor power allocated to the zone and other poor infrastructure. Why can't the regions or zones be given money to develop the areas they have comparative advantage? They just want to continue to suppress the region. Which investor will come to the Eastern part, where he has to fly to Lagos or Abuja to get home? If I was an investor, I will choose, Lagos-Ogun axis or Abuja, because of the international airports. The SE has no international airport. With the $1 billion, the SE might decide to build an international airport or the 2nd Niger bridge... It is too clear that the FG doesn't want the eastern region to develop...for obvious reasons. 9 Likes 1 Share |

ODVanguard: The story of Abuja thumping traditional Northern commercial centres like Kaduna and Kano in economic importance today, courtesy of the international exposure and fund flow afforded by the FCT title would continue to speak against purveyors of propaganda like you. Vestiges of its FCT status, like International airport, monopoly on seaport, hosting of many multinational corporations, and foreign embassies, including infrastructures like 3rd mainland bridge, provided Lagos with a solid foundation that made it a self sustaining entity it is today. It has nothing to do with Yorubas. The capital of Western Region was Ibadan, and it's not looking that impressive. 11 Likes 1 Share |

pazienza:again I will tell u, u are very dumb the house of the fg all throughout was limited to Lagos city alone, when Lagos state was created Lagos city served as dual capital for state and fg until 1976 when Lagos state officially moved its own capital to Ikeja and fg remained in Lagos city alone until 1991 Lagos the whole state was never the capital of the fg I know ur head is thick but u must understand this today Lagos city was the seat of the fg not the whole state. Enugu was the capital of eastern region that’s why I made reference to it and a lot of the proceeds of the eastern region also developed it that’s why I made reference to it and it’s not looking impressive today either 2 Likes 1 Share |

mercyville: Liar... See...the below...and try an travel more... "...During the 60s and 70s when u mention Port harcourt and Enugu in East, mention Kano and kaduna in North, then u must mention Lagos and Ibadan in west. Lagos was the capital of Nigeria while Ibadan was the largest city in West Africa. We were a very suffisticated people then. We never had much brown roofs. We had largest professors. we also had other cities such as Abeokuta etc but now table has turned on us, ibadan is the biggest slum in the whole of Africa (if not the world) with many dirty buildings without toilets. The brown roofs are enough to make you throw up. Abeokuta has declined from a city to a small town with slums. Other state capitals in west are mere villages like, osogbo and ado ekiti and akure. (I'd have icluded ilorin but since it has an emir as the traditional ruler, it is now owned by northerners). Here in osogbo the best hotel looks like a guest house Coming to east, you now have many cities, including ones which were not developed in 60s. They have booming cities like Enugu, Owerri, Onitsha, Aba, Nnewi, Awka , Umuahia. If u go to awka umuahia and owerri, u see modern buildings without brown roofs, u see fine hotels, shoping malls and fly-overs under construction. pazienza: Are you daft?? Who is arguing with you about Abuja and the perks it currently enjoys as an FCT?? We are TALKING ABOUT LAGOS, dumbo! Lagos is a SELF-SUSTAINING STATE TODAY! Abuja IS NOT. Your argument would only carry much weight if FG accords the same perks and subsidized development to Lagos as it does Abuja. Even as we speak, Abuja is relatively enjoying less development under this administration than it did under GEJ, why? Because its allocation/subsidized development from the FG has reduced drastically owing to the slump in oil prices!! But the same cannot be said about Lagos coz Lagos does NOT depend on FG money. #FACT! I know your type. If Lagos administrators had allowed the state to continue to retrogress and decay, your likes would have changed the narrative to something like, 'well, those Yoruba people cannot even manage Lagos without the FG'. And speaking of Ibadan, the city may not be on par with Lagos (it can certainly do wayyy much better than it is currently doing with a more aggressive leadership coz it has everything it needs to match Lagos, that is our thinking in the SW coz we don't hinge our development on Oil money, FCT status, or SeaPorts like y'all obsess over) but it has witnessed more robust development that your entire enclave. This goes beyond throwing derisive brown-roof invectives/expletives, guy. I have told you how badly Lagos was doing after the FCT was shifted to Abuja, and how the state was re-invented as a result of its focused, visionary, and quality leadership. Unfortunately, you people put so much faith in Oil money/rent-seeking and 'Federal presence' as requisites for development, but sorry we SWesterners don't share that worldview coz if we did, today we'd be making excuses while Lagos would've continued denegerating rather than find creative means of arresting its decay. But as you can see, even Ogun is stepping up, while the likes of Oyo and Osun are also following suit. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

ODVanguard: I think this your argument has become circular, and currently leading to repetition of points I had already tackled. Lagos is self sustaining today, Yes! All thanks to the perks it enjoyed as the colonial administrative quarters and FCT. Abuja could yet become self sustaining tomorrow. Ibadan is not ranked by resident city international. Either way, it's just a modest town. And we know why. As it was to the rest of Lagos state, benefiting from proximity to the seat of power in island, so it's becoming for Ogun. We had all elucidated on this before. This argument, I'm afraid had run its full course. You have no new compelling points to offer. And oh, this your Euromonitor stat thing, I know it's your usual distraction tactics. But for those who want to discuss on that topic, it was done here :https://www.nairaland.com/3294626/abuja-ibadan-port-harcourt-make-euromonitor/5#up 6 Likes 1 Share |
