erico2k2, what caused the car to enter into limp mode and did you diagnose the fault with a scanner to pinpoint the issue?

yes I did, it was that thermostat.Ie water was not getting into the heat exchanger, so the transmission fluid was to hot,.It was Ok as we are in winter and its cold here, I took the under tray off so air can get there untill I got the parts needed.once normal cooling service resumed, limp mode disapeared.

Posted d problem wit my car (e39 bm) earlier (tripping off while in motion, poor acceleration, low engine power). I noticed after cleaning d plugs d car comes on but trips off after some km, so I got new NGK platinum plugs (was using toks ngk b4) n was able to drive it from where it stopped (law school bstop, vi) to sangotedo. was happy, thinking I'd solved d prob only for it to start same thing (tripping off) d following day.
from what I gathered online, d engine maybe misfiring n shld have changed d plugs long b4 now, something else may have gone wrong (eg camshaft sensor)
Any1 experienced something like this b4, any help will b appreciated, I'm done with these mechanics n their guess work (them don chop my money tire)

Mine is doing same thing,
things to look out for
Cam shaft Positioning Sensors, there are two of them
Crank Shaft positioning Sensor9Hard to remove cos you got to remove inlet manifold) for the E46
the last bit is the Acentric Shaft Sensor, (hardest) U got to remove valve cover)
You VVT actuator need looking at too, if you get rough idling plus does it go off after a certain temp? try n chk

I am about buying a BMW car. But i am confused on which to go for as i am a starter of the brand. Which is your best advise to start with to understand the car mechanisms better. I am quite tall though so i would love a bit of space. Thanks

Right for these sensors cam and crank shafts sensors never buy toks buy brand new . Cos they are magnets and get weak with usage and time . So u need Ebay or amazon about £25 each .
Acentric sensor is inside the valve cover . It's the one that sensor on top plugs to.I got a pic I will snap it at lunch time
