The only reasonable Jeff bezos beat Bill Gates to top the Rich List is simply because Gates wealth has been dwindling over the past few years.
Imaging a zuckerberg who had just $1.5B sometimes in 2008 while bill gates had over $50B.. fast forward to now Zuckerberg is worth over $70B while Gates is worth just over $90B then you see Gates hasn't been making much cash as he used to sometimes ago

Yes, Amazon have over $30 billion in unused gift cards. But even if a gift card is redeemed, until it is actually spent it does not count as revenue, but a liability. So I do not see how this adds to Amazon's Net worth.
