LONG POST ALERT!!!

Pre-EE Journey

Initially, I wanted to immigrate to Canada via the study route. I was given an admission with partial funding for Fall 2017 but I couldn’t resume because I was working on a project. Along the line, @Osemigho talked about Express Entry on the “Canadian Student Visa Thread”. I decided to check it out so I could know more about it. I know the importance of planning and doing research before starting something. Therefore, I read all the pages back then (with my old username) till the page I joined.

I also read the posts of some of the people who started the process in 2015 (@Zandora, @Vcole et al) to know whether they eventually got their PPR/COPR. This inspired me to compile the names of people who eventually received their PPR/COPR because I know that it can actually encourage others to start the process. By the time I was through, I had gained enough knowledge about the whole process.


ECA

I contacted @Dannio to ask him about how to apply for transcript at National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). He answered all my questions patiently and I got my certificate evaluated by IQAS (because of the verification process stress with WES).

About NOUN- I remembered when I wanted to start my Master’s program in NOUN few years ago. My friends tried to discourage me and told me to go to a conventional university because NOUN certificate is not recognized worldwide. However, I didn’t heed to their advice because I knew what I wanted (A postgraduate program I can do while working and NOUN was the best option for me). I am glad I followed my heart. My NOUN Master’s degree was evaluated as the equivalent of a Canadian Master’s degree.


POF

I used a treasury bill certificate and my savings bank account. The letter was not in CIC’s format, so I submitted the following: treasury bill certificate, reference letter, letter of non-indebtedness and six months bank statement. I didn’t include LOE (for POF) because my POF (savings account and treasury bill) has been in my bank account for more than six months. I included a breakdown of my proof of funds in tabular form too.


MEDICALS AND PCC

Medicals was easy and straightforward. I used Q-Life Family Clinic. I shared what the medical process entails in this post. The PCC was easy too. I spent less than thirty minutes (thanks to Inspector Moshood ).


LOE

I attached two LOEs (LOE to explain why I didn’t include pay slips and LOE to explain the reason for an overlap in my personal history details). There was an overlap in my personal history details, so I had to explain the reason for the overlap. I was working full-time and also studying full-time (the master’s program at NOUN).


WORK EXPERIENCE

I used my one-year NYSC work experience only. I included others under my personal history details. I submitted the work experience letter in CIC’s format and attached the bank statement of my salary account (when I was serving) to show the amount I was paid.


PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH

I collected the hard copy only. I snapped the passport photograph at Studio 24, scanned the hard copy, changed the resolution to 600 pixels (the minimum resolution if scanned as specified by IRCC) and used the scanned copy for my e-APR.


OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:

*I created a folder, grouped each document and named them before getting an Invitation to Apply (ITA). I used the checklist in this post to organize them. For those people who are still waiting to receive an Invitation to Apply, use the waiting period to gather all necessary documents.

*Newbies, kindly learn to read, read and read! It is for your own benefit and not for someone else’s benefit. The Express Entry journey requires “patience”.

*Don’t rely on the answers and information given here alone. You can always double-check the answers on CIC’s website. In fact, the authentic source of information about the whole process is CIC’s website.



This Canadian journey is not a journey for the faint-hearted. However, only those who are persistent, patient and passionate about the whole process would reap the good reward.

I remembered how British Council taught me the real definition of “patience” when I was waiting for the outcome of my EOR. Today, I am standing tall because I didn’t give up on my dream. Indeed, weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. To all IELTS hopefuls, do not give up. Keep moving forward, even when it feels like it would be easier to just lay down and give up.
