Their surgeons may only come on Mondays and Wednesdays for planned cases. Any case that becomes an emergency on Tuesday will have to be referred to another hospital as they dont have the skilled manpower on Tuesdays. If an emergency comes on Monday or Wednesday, they will be lucky as they have the personelle on ground on those days, and can be squeezed into their surgery list.
This is obviously what happened in this case, its as simple as that.
Shouldn't a private hospital have someone on ground always that can do a CS?

For health centers it's understandable and a lot of lagos health centers have ambulances on ground incase there's an emergency case for transport to the general hospital.

In fairness, private hospitals have no business running emergency services.
It all depends on what sevices they offer. If they dont offer emergency CS, then they don't.
No private hospital in the UK offer emergency services. Its same with many developed countries.
Usually, if they have one of their known patients come in for elective surgery, and it gets complicated, they will bluelight such patients to their general hospitals.
Ocassionally if the surgeon who owns the patient is around and its just a minor thing like controlling bleeding in the patient, he will take the patient back into theatre provided its daytime as there will always be anesthetists around. If the surgeon is not around, or its at night where they can't get anyone, they will call an ambulance to transport the patient out to govt hospital that has emergency services.

I dont believe anyone would tell a woman who needs an emergency Cs to wait till next day or 2 days later. That part of the story is untrue no matter how poorly trained the healthcare assistants are. Its just to make the story sweeter.
They may have told them they only do operations on certain days, but definitely not ask them to wait till then. Even those that have never worked in hospital know that.

If not for people like you trying to convince me now, you need to see how i hate medical practitioners especially those working in Nigerian. Thanks for the soothing words, may God be with you throughout your working carrier.
How won't you hate them?

You cannot muster the hatred towards your terrible political leaders that under-equip hospitals and treat medical doctors shabbily. But it is the underpaid, overworked medical doctor that you will hate.

Typical.

Interesting.

I have NEVER seen any positive threads on the front page about doctors. Despite the hundreds of thousands of patients seen and cured by medical doctors, nobody ever comes to post here, on Facebook or on Twitter. This, despite the fact that the average Nigerian doctor is underpaid, overworked and has to contend with extremely threadbare equipment.

When Nigerians are healed, they rather go to church to give testimony or come on Nairaland to attribute everything to 'God' or 'miracles'.

The only time we ever see positive threads about doctors is when they die of Ebola, Lassa fever or are killed in some IDP camp by Boko Haram.

But let anyone hear any third hand story about medical doctor negligence and it hits front page. Tweets begin trending. All this from goats who have never uttered a word to complain or protest the fact that many doctors that see up to 50 patients daily, in hazardous conditions are paid only a pittance monthly.

Take this case, for example. It looks very likely that this was a case where the hospital told the lady that they were not equipped to handle surgeries on the days when their surgeon is not on duty. But somehow, this has been translated to "this hospital does not do emergency surgeries on Tuesdays" and because that is a negative story, it has been swallowed very eagerly by Nigerians.

Ritualistic hospital. Who fixes a day for EMERGENCY surgeries?
I have seen a woman on emergency attention left alone in LUTH about 6 years ago just because they were having their routine weekly meeting. Safe delivery in Nigeria public hospitals is indeed the handwork of God

I didn't want to reply you cos you are wicked, heartless and lack comprehension skill at the same time. Is government also responsible for medical personnel's behavior, attitude and unprofessional characters or where in comment did you see me talk about equipment? Carry your frustrated and toxic life far away from me.

Nonsense.

Plan well before you get pregnant.

Didn’t she have an obgyn that was seeing her during her pregnancy? Wasn’t a birthing location assigned in advance?

Yah all need to stop picking on this private hospitals as well as nursing professionals.

The ministry of health is the issue.

Thank you for displaying astute intelligence.

It’s in short supply in here.

.......general hospitals do......they have no value for human life
Only a few general hospitals in Nigeria are equipped for emergency surgeries especially during call hours which is after official working hours. This might be due to shortage of theatre staff.
However, I do not believe that they would have told a woman in labour to wait for two days before CS could be done. They probably stated that they do not do CS on that day of the week and were not equipped for emergency CS.
Either way, it is not fair to hastily pass judgement and insult medical practitioners and hospitals without hearing the other side of the story.
Many healthworkers work under bottleneck conditions to save people's lives and I am one of those. It's true that there are some bad eggs which is not unique to only the medical profession but the ones that are breaking their backs saving lives are not even getting encouraged.
We should all not forget that each and everyone of our various professions have to do with saving lives either directly or indirectly. Therefore, we should all check ourselves first to see if we are also harming people's lives in one way or the other.
