Why are these guys in love with making wild statements. I really wonder do they even think before speaking. Why are you guys allowing exporters to bring in rejected rice.

Because Buhari is an expired General who should be looking after his stagnant 150 cows and grandchildren instead of trying to manage the biggest economy handed over to him, which he has changed into recession.
We are in trouble with the old man. Serious trouble.

You stop Thailand from exporting directly to Nigeria but your fictional rice mills can't meet local demand. So Thailand decides to increase the quantity of rice it had hitherto been smuggling through Benin and Cameron. Whether directly or indirectly, Thailand's rice is the reason Nigeria is not embroiled in a food crises at the moment.

The Blamers goes intercontinental! It's no more PDP, it's your neighboring countries now responsible for your ineptitude.
Instead of you to admit you are not securing the borders effectively. You put the blame elsewhere to distract attention to APC cluelesness in governance results.
Well done Lai Mohammed

Nigeria's borders are terribly exposed. We are disturbed about Cameroonian and Beninoise borderlines with the nation when the borders we share with Chad and Niger are not well protected.
Mind you, Niger and Chad both share borders with Libya which is currently not stable, leaving Nigeria a dumping ground for light arms and ammunition. Our security crises starts ending with tightly controlled borders.

The comptroller general of immigration, customs are from the North! That's FG responsibility to fix! Do they have the political will to close porous borders that come handy during elections whereby aliens are smuggled into the country through them?

It pains me to realise at the long run that rechristening this man as "Lie" is not apt. Something worst than that would have been more appropriate.

What he said further confirms that there is no coordination in this government. It is a government in disarray with the functionaries doing their things on solo levels.

one would have expected a minister of information to have consulted with his colleagues in the ministries of agriculture, finance, foreign affairs etc before coming to the public to make wild and embarassing statements.

If the government is genuinely committed to the rice revolution, there should have been diplomatic talks and agreements with our neighbours for support by patronising our rice.

The NCS should have been better equipped and mobilised to checkmate smuggling.

But no, it seems this minister is the Mrknowitall of this government, he can dabble into the affairs of any ministry, spew rubbishes, display ignorance and the presidency or at least his principal will egg him on.

The main gist in this statement is the bit that he is planning a media campaign to encourage consumption of locally grown rice. So, another money laundering venture is in the offing. I hope that one day the man would be questionned about the effectiveness of these media campaigns he executed in the last few years. How much were the budget, how were they spent and to what effect.

Na one day go be one day o!

Speaking at a briefing in Lagos, weekend, where he paraded the administration’s successes in agriculture, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said six million more Nigerians had started rice farming since the advent of Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Somebody should please ask Mr Lai if he knows what 6 million is.

Anyway I don't blame him, when the journalist don't ask him how he came about that figure he keep pull stuff from his ass.

Our rice production has increased so much that it collapsed Thailand's rice market but Benin republic and Cameroon production is sabotaging our local rice?

I'm confused oga Lie Mohammed.

So if you are a PDP supporter you probably don't follow up on things.
So this is what is up, let me explain elementarily ; Nigeria raised tariffs (that is import duties, ...wey dem dey pay for port or even before load come..before dem dey do clearing ) *it is important to explain carefully to dumb Nigerian youths these days *
Anyway, immediately Nigeria raised duties, Cameroon and Benin Republic lowered their own import duties and started allowing the exact volume that Nigeria restricted into their own country ...just target income to be made within their local economy on smuggling into Nigeria. It is possible Nigerian business men bribed officials in those countries or the Thai government is doing it.

The FG has trained and given heavy loans to anchor borrower farmers who are doing well in rice production. If imported rice is smuggled in through the borders, the farmers will lose the market and default on the loans. It will affect the Nigerian economy. So the FG has to fight it. I think even at the threat of destroying the two economies, Benin and Cameroon, Nigeria has to stop the rice smuggling. Currently there is more rice in Benin Republic than the population of people they are waiting for smuggling routes to open

What kind of rubbish post is This?

EVERYTHING you are saying the Federal Government should have done they did. EXACTLY.
The special equipment for the NCS was on Channels TV about two months ago. It was on the agenda of a special FEC meeting.
Why is it a practice in Nigeria to always make 1+ 1=2 statements?.
What new knowledge have you added now?
The media campaign is just one issue and it will work. Nigerian rice is actually more nutritious than foreign rice.
The Navy is already involved against smuggling from the Cameroon end. The Nigerian Customs Service may remove many officers because of rice smuggling alone and there might be confiscation of smuggled rice in stores.
Please note that Nigeria did NOT ban foreign rice. They merely increased duties to protect farmers and Miller's.
