Yet most of the apostles were killed maybe even more brutally and the ones who were not killed were tortured. By your logic they were 'fake followers of Christ.'
Being a Christian requires you to believe in both the sovereignty and goodness of God regardless of what happens- whether it seems off, fake, mundane or sad. Sometimes painful things happen; that's life. Preachers die, babies get cancer, war breaks out, starvation is a reality for many on our planet today- things happen that hurt all of us Christian or not.
I once read somewhere that God did not promise to 'shield' us from life, He promised to walk us through it. So life will happen. It won't be all rosy, the sun won't always shine. Some days will be darker than others. At a point most of us will lose loved ones maybe prematurely, maybe to peaceful deaths, accident, sickness, etc. We may have financial problems, we may be sick, etc. The important thing is to trust God to carry us through these moments. He knows the bigger picture, we don't. My belief is that faith is built in these moments if we let God do His work in us (Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that we should not pray against these things and take appropriate action).
