It is a great school. I was accepted there on half scholarship and they said that is the best they can do. It is not in Toronto, it’s in Kingston.
Sent you a pm.

Hi everyone. All the best in our various applications. God will help and favor us all.

I have come to say again that if you have any thought of staying in Canada after study, it will never be a bad idea to read about Canada express entry. Some of us did this time last year and God has been faithful.

I don’t know much about the study visa now but I would advise you write “full admission scholarship” as your sponsor, in the crucial cic form, if you have scholarship that can cover your tuition and living expenses. During my time, I wrote that and only added bank accounts (mine and dad) of less than #2m to my app. Some scholarship holders account was not even up to that and they got their student visa.

Studying in Canada is tougher than most of us think but your determination and grace will make you stand out. I could only come back now that semester is rounding up.

A lot have changed since I know this place. Truly, information is key and leads to transformation. If you think you can, yes! You can.

For those coming to Calgary, I may have some tips about Accomodation and study. Feel free to reach out.

Regards,
Osemigho.

Thanks dear. Wont NYSC SOA be another confusion? Cant my nysc certificate show that i have been serving my country since graduation? I hope it wont backfire cos my uncle should have enough balance in his bank statement to account for my studies.

Also can I use my father's SOA to support?

Please is it okay to open a domiciliary account and let my uncle transfer my living expenses for the first year there? Then provide SOA for that...will it show a sign of commitment if we dont pay tuition during application cos UAlberta does not do a refund of tuition paid on the bases of denied visa.

Phocusjosh:
Hello, ensure you submit your NYSC SOA to show that you have not been idle after your undergraduate studies. Inasmuch you bear the same name with your parents, you can ride safely on the wings of their assets. I believe a well written SOP detailing your career goals in Nigeria and as well your siblings and family certificate. Any family business? if there is, you can link up how you intend to use your course of study to advance the company

Thank you dear
WEIRDPC:

Ma,

Your parent, sibling, and parent's asset are good enough home ties to get your visa. The asset does not necessarily have to be linked to you. Just show proof it exist and it belongs to your family. You can attach the Certificate of Occupancy, survey plan and valuation of the land.

As long as you show enough fund to cover your tuition and living expenses, you should be fine.

Also, the job is not a necessary requirement as youre just completing your mandatory NYSC. I just suggested it as a good home tie.

Best.

McGill University. But you have to pay the $100 first. Then prove to them somewhere along the application process why the money should be refunded to you based on hardshipsmiley

Osemigho!!!

I'm always happy to see your posts. I remember when I joined nairaland last year and was reading through the earlier threads.

This Osemigho guy had been rejected by all 3 Universities he applied to. He didn't give up. He tried again the next year, sent 50 or so emails to profs and finally got one at U of Calgary. For him, full scholarship was an absolute necessity because he wouldn't be able to afford the fees otherwise. He received a fully funded admission to Calgary, promptly applied for trv and needless to say, it was approved.

Now this guy guy didn't even stop there. Before he even landed in Cannyland to start his masters, he went ahead to apply for Permanent Residency via EE and later got it.

Two years ago, he was a young Naija graduate with perhaps an uncertain future. Today, he is pursuing masters on a full scholarship with a PR card already in hand. God has blessed you, and will continue to do so.

It shall end in praise for us all.

UBC. You will not be asked to pay at all. However, the competition is sky high.

Apply alone, using you and son as home ties. When in Canada, he can process a SOWP for you to join along with son. Applying for a visiting visa is very hard to get. Here is a link that tells you the process of applying for a SOWP to join your husband in Canada.

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate.

Luckily my hubby got admission in UBC for MBA.
We didn't get scholarship we applied but we believe God in tackling the issue of funds since the school is quite expensive.
We are also believing God for job afterwards.
We are now on application for study permit.
Please does anyone have tips to share on study permit application?

Are you travelling abroad? Clear everything off your phone and don't accept anything from anybody. Read on:
Check Is Money

This is a true life story. Not only is it a real account of event that took place between my blood sister and US immigration/custom officers, it is a recent one too; it took place last two weeks. Between Tuesday 23rd and Thursday 25th, January 2018, from Lagos to Atlanta, USA, and back to Lagos. The entire journey lasted not more than forty-eight hours.

My sister has been visiting America since 1996, mostly twice a year. She had two of her three children in the US. All of them are now residents in US. The purpose of the visits has largely been business, including this last one. She runs Daslat Ventures, a boutique / Home stuff outfit, with outlets at Ogba Shopping Arcade and Ajah. Most of her dealings in US are with Costco, a popular and reputable company. This paragraph is meant to give a mental understanding to who she is. Nothing more.

On the fateful Tuesday, I got a whatsapp message from my sister notifying me she was about to board a Delta airline (her usual airline, a US airline) going to Atlanta, Georgia. Several hours later, I got another whatsapp message informing me they had landed in the airport in US. The message ended with 'Alhiamudulilhai'.
Myself, I was busy packing my luggage for the next day flight to Nigeria. Next time I checked my phone, there was another message from her: 'heading back home now'. I was a bit puzzled. I tried to explain it away by telling myself she was heading to her home in Atlanta. But wait a sec! Between the 'Alhiamudulilhai' message and this one, it had been few hours. I decided to call her. She clarified to me she was heading home to Lagos. 'What happen?' She told me she would explain when we see in Lagos. But I persisted. She then explained.....

The flight from Lagos to US was smooth. Delta is the best. Ojukai and his wife were also on board. When we landed at the airport in US, I was able to connect to the airport Wi-Fi. That was when I sent you the message of my arrival. I proceeded to the entry desk where my passport and visa were checked and verified ok. 'You are welcome to the US ma'am.' I walked past the counter, was heading to the arrival section when I heard 'hey You!'. I stopped and turned around to face a stern looking middle aged white man. He pointed at the book I was holding, 'You must set Forth at Dawn'. 'WHAT IS IN THAT FEDEX ENVELOPE?' This was the beginning!

In the Fedex envelope I had inside the Soyinka's book I was holding was a check given to me by Mrs Giwa to help deliver to a friend of hers, Mrs Ijeze whom I know very well. I didn't declare it at the point of entry. One, I didn't know check is money. Two, it wasn't in my name. When they asked me to follow them to their office within the airport I knew I was in a sort of trouble. Though I had the confidence I could explain myself, my bladder still gave way! Lol . They took my bags away from me, my book and my phones. I told them I had to change cloth because I had wet myself... they allowed me.

Interrogation started. They asked so many questions. They would hold meetings among themselves in whisper and returned to me for another round of questions. They called in a FBI agent. Then another hours of questions. They were trying to establish a case against me but my response kept me in the clear. They asked about my business, I told them. They cross examined that by putting a call through to Costco. My story was corroborated. I gave them Mrs Giwa's number. They called her. She confirmed she gave me the check. Still, the interrogation continued. I was getting tired. I m diabetic, you know.

One of the agents put before me my phone asking me to explain and identify the people in the video clips in my phone's whatsapp app!
I was confused. The clips showed ritual beheadings, boko haram barbaric acts, badoo atrocities and some Emmanuella's comedy skits.
I don't know any of them. I could understand the conclusion they were setting up. These are stuff people broadcast on whatsapp in Nigeria. People forward it to their contacts for information purpose only. I have no idea who these people in the clips are.

At this point, it is important to mention my sister wears hijab (not Niqab nor Burka).

They called most US contacts on my phone. I believed they got good responses about me. During the long hours interrogation, Delta had been contacted to put me on next available flight to Lagos. Delta was excellent. They put me on first class. That was when the interrogating agents started showing me a bit of respect. They told me they were not banning me from entering US in near future but they were not comfortable with the video clips found on my phone. As such they would deny me entry this time. I could go home and reapply for US visa in Lagos. I asked them if my children would be in any trouble because of this unfortunate misunderstanding, they said No.
At that point I just wanted to be on my way to Lagos. They didn't confisticate the check either.
Now back in Lagos, glory be to God, the Lord of all the worlds.

The reason I decided to narrate this story to our platform is to inform us concerning what we share, receive from forwarded messages and store (intentionally or otherwise) on our phones. You can never tell when they would turn incriminating. Even if you have got explanations that are genuine, events arising from the delay might waste your precious time and resources.
Whatsapp, by default settings saves a copy of all received pictures and videos in your phone's gallery, block such or wipe them out always.
