There is a kind of conspiracy going on here. I was banned for 2 days without a warning. The person that banned me said i posted private pictures. I dont know how the pictures were private. You banned me and removed the post on this thread, but you left out the post on the diary section..... Thats just....... Anyway, I have served the ban and that is final.

In those two days, i have gotten a blog of my own and have intensified posting on instagram.

I think people who are against the decision of the moderator haven't read the Uber privacy policy, especially in the light of recent events going on with Facebook et al. This has nothing to do with "bad-belleism" or jealousy like some people have alluded to, it's simply common sense. I don't believe the moderator who resides overseas will be jealous of a taxi driver making a living in Nigeria.

I don't use Uber, but if I did, I expect the driver to do his job of picking me from point A and dropping me off at point B. When a driver takes pictures of me and where I live (MY shithole) without my consent, goes ahead to post such in social media in an attempt to bank likes and shares, it's a gross invasion of the privacy and safety of people who use Uber.

I would advice the moderators to email Uber Nigeria all the photos of riders posted in this thread, lets see if I'm right or wrong when it comes to their own well-stated privacy policy.

I have disagreed with the actions of the travel section moderator on a handful of occasions in the past, but I totally agree with his decision to remove the photos of riders and their neighbourhood posted here. It's just not fair for taxi drivers to ridicule their riders who are actually paying them to do a simple job of moving from point A to B.

I expect the OP will be treated more harshly by Instagram if he chooses to post riders photos there without their consent, he will eventually be tracked and his Uber account blacklisted by Uber. I can't believe that a 'young man' can choose to risk loosing his livelihood simply because of a few likes and shares in social media.

Mention one rider you have seen his/her pics here. Mention one area you can recognize here. Also Mention the real names of the Uber driver and the kind of car he drives.

I have accepted my wrongdoing. I did not protest the ban even if I wasn't happy about it. I have done the time. I am sorry I shared my experiences here. It's a mistake that won't be repeated. I was banned for 48 hrs without a warning. Offenders are normally banned for 2 hrs with a warning, and a harsher and lengthier ban follows if the warnings are not heeded. But I was banned outrightly. No wahala. Its past now. Pls delete all.

To those that have felt insulted by the experiences and pictures that I posted, I am sorry. You have written epistles about why i should be sanctioned and why the ban should have been harsher. I agree. Pls prevail on the moderators to delete my contents and let's forget this ugly episode ever happened.

If this thread and my contents aren't removed by my request, I will manually commence to do so, no matter how tedious it may seem.

You said I invaded privacy.... No faces were shown. No home addresses revealed. No real names revealed. No street names revealed. Pictures I took were all in public. None were private. I have never revealed anyone's personal information and I will never. Things i write about are all true, but i write them in the way it happens in my head. I have never insulted a rider, I have never made fun of them verbally.

All you read happens in my head.

Nairaland isn't the end. It was the beginning. I am grateful to everyone who has been very supportive. The calls and messages are all appreciated. It's time for me to move on and expand my horizons. It has already started. I can't be stopped, but on nairaland it's over.

Pls oblige my request to delete my contents... Thank you.

Just chill, maintain ur following here(over a 100k visitors daily, only God knows, how many are unique n first timers). Make posts once in a while n redirect pple to ur other pages, for more contents. We all know that, u take care of d pple u meet going up, cos u might need them, not necessarily, only when coming down.

The MOD might just be a hater, not representing nl ethos. Don't take it out on nl.

And to that MOD, pple post pics of various incidence, with full facial views: accidents, graphic deaths, accused molesters(not convicted yet o), arrests, fights, celebrities in awkward situations n all that, u no ban them too? Stop being a f. hypocrite joor. Let them sue Romeo first, then u can always pop champagne to his legal troubles! My post hit over 80,000 views in less than a month and I am not killing anyone for closing it since no one owes me anything on Nairaland. It is never personal, get your views out and move on with it. Stop playing the victim card nobody cares. The minute you stop commenting on it the thread will die naturally, or probably you secretly wish the thread could get more views

have you really been reading people's comments about the privacy? no one hates the stories posted, what people are saying is "the pictures are not necessary" we have been enjoying the stories without pictures. No one is jealous, as some people have been saying. I have been reading your stories and I enjoyed them but I didn't feel okay with the pictures. I don't think they are right.

You come across as intelligent. Won't you rather take the advice of people who have intelligently, without insults, told you why you should not put up pictures of your clients over the advice of people who can't get their opinions across without insulting others and labeling them haters?

I think you need to see things from other people's perspectives. You are NOT all knowing and when a lot of people say the same things consistently, you need to take time to see if there are truths in it.

Let me say upfront that I enjoy your stories. More importantly, I like your hardworking lifestyle and your general attitude to work.

But on this issue of the ban, I cannot agree less. I'm not sure its right to take photos of people, obviously without their consent and such photos find their way here. Although it makes your stories interesting and credible, I don't think its proper to take unauthorised photographs of people and post it here (even though their faces are never shown). Their privacy must be respected. I can recall at least two instances: the lady with the torn red dress and the lady with the very skimpy bum shorts recently.

The test is whether an average reasonable man would not feel offended, if he were to find out that someone took photos of him in a situation which doesn't necessarily portray him well and posted it on a forum read by millions.

Whether an outright ban without prior warning is right is another kettle of fish entirely.

Don't take it too hard, we still want to share in the hilarious moments you encounter as you keep Lagos moving. Cheers.

I will not bother about the snide remarks. I like to focus on the issues. So, if I get you clearly, a person who photographs, for instance, the torn zipper of the attire I'm wearing, which tends to demean or embarass me and posts same on social nedia without my knowledge has not violated my right to privacy?

If this romeo's case doesn't qualify as violation of privacy rights, I wonder what would. This is so simple that you'll need some help (or some very high IQ) to miss it.

The photo which I suppose led to the ban captured a portion of the lady rider's bum, and you say she'll be happy if she found out that a cab driver whom she paid, took photos of such sensitive body parts and posted same online without her consent?

You say such crass violation is not actionable in law, either as a tort or in an action for enforcement of Section 37 of the Constitution? Btw, it is not defamation. Defamation refers to spoken or written words/publication.

Say for instance, I take a man's photo when he's sleeping with his mouth agape and it lands on a forum like this without his consent. Do you honestly think that he'd not express some dissatisfaction if same was brought to his attention.

In fact, in other climes, "it is an offence for a person to knowingly photograph, or cause to be photographed an individual, when the individual has a reasonable expectation of privacy, without the prior effective consent of the individual, if the photograph would offend or embarrass an ordinary person if such person appeared in the photograph. "

It is irrelevant that the full picture of the person is not taken. At the very most, this factor would go to quantum of damages recoverable.

However, if you still hold your views, you're perfectly within your rights and I'll respect them.
