Former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, has again urged Nigerians to ensure that only the younger generations were voted to power in the country.

Babangida, spoke at his country home, Minna, Niger State, when he received a delegation of YES Nigeria Movement, led by its convener, Ali Soyode.

He charged the delegation to seize the privilege offered by the next elections to serve their fatherland at a younger age.

Babangida, who, had in a statement in February asked President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019, urged him to complete his first term and allow a new generation of leaders to take control of the mantle of leadership of the country.

“In the fullness of our present realities, we need to cooperate with President Muhammadu Buhari to complete his term of office on May 29th, 2019 and collectively prepare the way for new generation leaders to assume the mantle of leadership of the country.

“While offering this advice, I speak as a stakeholder, former president, concerned Nigerian and a patriot who desires to see new paradigms in our shared commitment to get this country running. While saying this also, I do not intend to deny President Buhari his inalienable right to vote and be voted for, but there comes a time in the life of a nation, when personal ambition should not override national interest,” Babangida stated.

The statement came on the heels of a similar statement issued by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, advising Buhari against re-contesting for the presidency in 2019.

The former military leader, however, reiterated the need for electorate to get their voting documentations in order to play their role in the governance of the country, just as he pledged to work with the movement in achieving its goals.

“I want to commend the leadership of the movement for the great works it has achieved, especially in the areas of educating the electorate on their democratic and political rights and also supporting existing parties in identifying potential candidates for elective offices,” Babangida said

In his remarks, the convener of the movement, Soyode, said the aim of establishing the movement was born out of his desire to see a better political and democratic system educating the electorates of their power to elects, call to accountability of the elected and having right people in government through the exercise of their votes.

He maintained that the country is due an opportunity for younger generations, team workers, patriotic leaders and those wishing to form alliance for the benefits of Nigerians to lead and have the elders as the advisory council.

Nigerian youths are not in agreement.

They want you to continue.

They are in love with their suffering and joblessness.

They will rather die than see a change in governance.

Nigerian youths don't want power yet. They said they would only vote people with "Experience" on how the system works rather than vote someone like sowore for example, who might upset the status quo in the system and so for that, I have agreed that buhari is VERY "Experienced" and so should Remain Nigeria's President for the next 5 years. Buhari till 2023 cheesy

You want to hear d bitter truth? I'm not against a young nor old person ruling us, what I have problem with is what I see everyday. Our leaders are d product of d masses, d people, d citizens. There's hardly a day that goes by without hearing a crime occurred in one part of d country. Let's look at it, young boys are using dubious means to get rich, everyone is now dishonest to think that a taxi driver returning a huge sum of money has made him endangered.

If these set of people get to that position what do u think they'll do. Everyone wants to have a share in D national cake.

An average Nigerian that sees money tomorrow becomes arrogant and full of themselves. They start chanting "do u know who I am"?.

Let's go to d tertiary institutions, ordinary class honorable election will b marred by violence and those are d youth in charge, d presidents of different unions in school embezzle much to d amazement of those that voted them in and u expect it to b better when they want to 'further their career'?

Our class governors are not different, stealing from their course mates all in D name of our class must move forward.

There's more to say, but let me leave d little I have said at this point to those that understand.

Well I see Nigeria remaining where it is until upright people take hold of d country.

Indeed, across the country a younger generation of leaders must emerge.

Not younger for younger sake but younger men and women who are inept in the art of fiscal and moral corruption, who are imbued with an authentic sense of duty and who possess the requisite vision, diligence and discipline to lead Nigeria, its States and Local Governments out of this present morass.

Useless senile old fool playing elder state man now. After your legacy has destroyed the country.

The problem we have is not about young people ruling. More than 90% of the young people that have been given a chance had performed and still performing woefully.
Dimeji Bankole
Dino melaye
Yahya Bello etc.
Even all this ordinary SUG presidents.

If 100 years old man will do the job well, let it be.

Age is not the problem.

Ibb and Obj should bury their heads in shame.
Ibb and obj ruled when they were young, what was there achievements?

USELESS OLD FOOLS.

IBB true yarn.. Sowore or any other youth who can change Nigeria governing system from analogue to a computerised system of government as obtainable in developed countries is welcomed..

So sad that some youth will still be used against youth leading..

They can't think on their own.. They were so brainwashed that there future is so blank.. Can't u for once sit down and think.. Must it be the same man that ruled has a military dictator before u were born is same person u are dieing to bring back??

Can't u think like an educated being for once in your lifetime??

A man that lied his way into power..
A man that him and his family members receive medical treatment abroad while we youth contends with d dilapidated general hospital here in Nigeria
A man who has already lost control to his kitchen cabinent..
A man who forget things cuz of old age (dementia)
A man with just a primary school certificate, no advance education.
A man who can't operate smart phone, than to receive and end calls
