It's your area of specialization not me. I see from your statement that your mom might suffering from mental disorder. not an insult but possible. I can't provide the solution but I have exposed the the sickness.

If you're not that committed to it, switch to Sociology (Cultural Anthropology). It's a better course. Psychology is way overrated.

When I read posts on NL and other social media sites in Nigeria, I'm forced to agree with Sagamite. The level of reasoning used in making the post is low if not non-existent.

As for your mother practice some Psychology on her.....primarily the power of suggestion and also find out the root of her misconceptions.

Ahem!!! Psychology is not a dead course sir. A lot of us studied psychology and use it in the workplace every frigging day. CIPM as a certification is tied to psychology. ICAN has some aspects of psychology in it ( Research and stats). Most neuropsychiatric hospitals have psychologists at the helm of affairs.

Please do not assume what you have no knowledge about.
P.S I do not think you have an idea what course of study suits you. A vocational/educational psychologist could help you with that.

Op that's an area of Psychology.... Clinical psychology.. And they work closely with psychiatrists to diagnose and treat mental disorders.. There are other areas of psychology not necessarily associated with studying mental disorders e.g industrial etc.... This is what you need to let your mum kmow.. And I've noticed serious misconceptions about not so popular disciplines like psychology... And serious work needs to be done to enlighten Nigerians... I'm a psychology graduate hoping to further my degree in clinical psychology or neuropsychology... Peace...

Wow that's great. Am a psychologist and I love the course. The owner of Tantalizers is a psychologist from UNN. Benjamin Elue former deputy governor of Delta state is a graduate of Psychology and many others. Is just that people look down on it owing to poor health policy in Nigeria. If doctors can be owed salary what makes people not to look down on psychologist. As far as mental health is concerned psychologists are one of the major players.

The individual is in Nigeria which is going through some serious economic turmoil
How realistic is it for this person to find work in the above mentioned field in THIS country?
Considering the propensity for employers here to look outside Nigeria when it comes to certain white collar jobs?
I am not under any illusion here regarding what could be under the right circumstances but this the reality most live in . Even if you have family abroad most international institutions put a lot of checks and measures in place when it comes to accepting qualifications from this country.
So yes in an ideal world that would suffice but life in Nigeria is far from ideal.

I'm not studying pyschology oooo.... biochem...... and school hard like mad... Only the trekking na die and I don port go Aba made sandals... no more gucci nonsense wey dey wear out...

But in the end.. I came to school for one reason and that is why I only make friends with lecturers and also I don't have a social life, no girlfriends and just 2 friends who love book die.....

Remember your mum has done her time in her youthful days.
I don't know where ya mum got tht myth from. Me o! Am an accomplished PhD holder in Psychology and still in possession of my faculties for years of practice.
To solve this problem jst use small psychology on mummy,tell her you hav heard but follow your mind and graduate my boy!

in most cases, psychological is opposed to medical... But when we say something is psycho-biological we could say we're referring to the function of the mind based on biological or medical underpinnings...

Psychology as we all know is the science of human and animal behavior, psycho-biology is an area of Psychology that studies the biology of human behavior that is why biology is required to study psychology in university.. So using psycho biology to explain mental illness is looking at the genetics, brain activities, hormonal activities and how it affects someone's mental health...
