Which do you value most? I wouldn't mind not being loved, but i need total respect from people i deal with and in the relationships i have. Respect shows that people admire and acknowledge your abilities and contributions and therefore, treat you in an appropriate way. Love on the other hand, is just a natural affection which is totally random and most times shortlived. So, what about you?? which would you prefer? Being loved or being respected? Let's have a debate. |

Love - real/bigger love (not neither fake love; fixation and servility, nor constituents of the bigger love; affection, fancy and care which independently bears the same name "love" ) - begot respect, loyalty, affection etc goodness in general. So, respect is one of the constituents of love, therefore, it's an insult to compare both - literally, it's not good to compare a father with his son. |

True love begets respect. So they should work hand in hand. |

ImaIma1:Put it the other way: Respect begets love. But sometimes, Love and respect don't go hand in hand Sometimes, a person might respect you but still doesn't love you. Few weeks ago, My colleague told me ' she doesn't like me at all'. Out of curiosity I ask her why; she was like ' You're too arrogant for my liking but still I have some respect for you because you don't take shit from anybody" Some times, love and respect don't go hand in hand. Correct me if am wrong.. |

LordKO:You may argue that love brings respect. That's right but one can also argue that love is not a long term feeling(romantic love), considering the rate of divorce nowadays. What keeps people longer in relationships is the genuine respect they have for each other when the initial intensity of passion fizzles out. Otherwise, they can't stand each other. There are grey areas though, but on a wider view, respect trumps love in a sustainable, long lasting relationship whether it be romantic, family etc |

Respect can be earned, independent of love. You don't need to be loved to earn respect. So people who are of the opinion that they go hand in hand, should note that this doesn't occur in every situation. |

FRoosevelt:My submission is lucid enough for an articulate person like you to understand it without hassle, but unfortunately you didn't citing your opposition. Romantic love (fancy/physical attraction plus/minus one other good attribute) shouldn't be mistaken for real/bigger love - just as there's a Lagos in Lagos State so also there's love in Love. Real love is a variant of goodness (it's both unconditional and immaterial) and when mixed with fancy (physical attraction) a healthy relationship occurs; a relationship that'll stand the test of time. Eg a virtuous woman (woman of goodness) plus a Godly man (man of goodness/nobleman) that find themselves physically attractive won't have any reason not to enjoy a healthy and harmonious union if they marry each other. About the spate of divorces been witnessed everywhere these days, it's much to do with people who didn't achieve self-realization as individuals before contracting their marriages, and those who finds pleasure in self-deceptions. Love is the father of respect, loyalty, kindness, affection - all constituents/children of goodness. |

FRoosevelt:You dont request for respect “Need”, respect is not demanded, its a two way street in a mutual understanding of each, the moment you NEED respect it more like forcing to be respected, respect is given. You dont call for it, it is given I rather be loved, being loved means there is also respect in it |
