For the third time, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has failed to honour an invitation to appear before the Senate.

Mr Idris has ignored the Senate for three weeks.

He was expected to answer questions on the arrest of a lawmaker, Dino Melaye, and killings across the country.

The police boss was first summoned on April 25 but he failed to appear.

On the day he was expected, the chairman of senate committee on police affairs, Abu Ibrahim, informed the lawmakers that the IGP had accompanied President Muhammadu Buhari to Bauchi.

The Senate re-summoned Mr Idris after it refused to allow the deputy Inspector-General of Operations to represent him.

The lawmakers summoned Mr Idris to appear on May 2 by 11 a.m. Again, he did not show up.

Mr Ibrahim said last week he had not been able to reach Mr Idris for a while.

He said he later found out the police chief had travelled to Kaduna instead of honouring the Senate’s invitation.

The Senate issued a third summons following a suggestion by the senate president, Bukola Saraki.

Mr Idris was asked to attend the senate plenary today, May 9.

But when it was time for the IGP to be ushered in to the senate chamber, the lawmakers realised Mr Idris was not available.

Mr Saraki announced his non-appearance after some minutes of wait to allow him into the chamber.

“I’ve just been informed that the IG or any member of his team are not here,” he said.

The lawmakers are currently deliberating on next line of action.

Chief Ayo Adebanjo, elder statesman and Afenifere chieftain on Monday said he is not surprised by the refusal of Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to appear before the senate saying President Muhammadu Buhari who appointed the police chief must have instructed him to ignore the directive.

Speaking in a chat with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Adebanjo who described President Buhari as a dictator said the president only obeys the laws he want and flouts the ones he doesn’t like, saying the service chiefs are only watching his body language.

They should just do what's on their mind and stop inviting him.

This is should be condemned the way we condemn the selfish and lazy set of our lawmakers. Let us preserve our democratic institutions. We are talking about the Senate, not the senators. That Institution should be respected.

The Senate, the Police are birds of the same feather flocking together.

This guy is acting with impunity...sometimes ago, he was sent to a state by the president and he refused to go and in the long run nothing happen. This time around he has been summoned by the upper chamber but the third time, still he refuse to honour them and I think nothing will thereafter happen, even heaven will not fall for the matter.

In my own view this is not ideal for our democracy and what is he using himself to call?

But this is how some mofo mods feel on nairaland forum here, thinking they are above everybody including seun who helps their economy.

To be frank, this is the worst IG i have ever seen. The rate of corruption, bribery, road blocks and indiscipline on the higher side at this regime. He needs automatic sack.

... and this is the type of impunity that we are going to vote for come 2019? May God save our country. This is lowest point since our democracy.

Let's look at this ...
If the police comes to your house (of course they'd never invite you over) and summons you at the door and you snub for only once while they know you're inside, you know what'd happen whenever they "perceive" you.

The Senate, I think, should apply this method.

This act of impunity is with the full support of buhari, his flagrant disobedience to courts orders, he treat the national Assemblies with disdain so also his carbinet, as dictator, he don't recognises Democratic principle, he encourages anarchy, example ,,the case of Mace snatched by Omo Agege where AG went to court to reversed his suspension.
With Buhari, Nigeria is doom because he is everything bad market, evil and tyranny.
