LOL. Nigerian community dey? I am not sure if there's a market for it. It would have been easy if there was a strong Nigerian (or African) community that meets or communicates regularly. Information circulation for such shows would have been much easier.

However, anyone can pull anything off. Your friend has started well by conducting a market assessment. He should probably locate where there is a concentration of his target market (prolly include other africans). Get boots on the ground to guage their appetite for such shows. Is he a resident? What's the cost implication of testing the market? He could have the first mover advantage if he is able to pull it off. But you must understand this is not London or Paris or New York that have matured markets for things like this. Even Davido or Whizkid won't just hop on a plane to Sydney. cheesy grin

Disclaimer: This is a personal opinion from someone who is new in Sydney and is not into entertainment. wink
lol. Thanks for the input. The person in question is not just a friend, na my brother o. lol.
No, he is not a resident, coming to visit and then will like to do a show for the "experience" of a different "market" place and to test the waters. So what I'm doing for him is gauging the environs and see how to proceed from there.

My bro is a resident there and he is stunning like my daddy lol. There are lot of opportunities for Engineer and IT professionals, the average Australian doesn't like maths and tech stuff but are always willing to hire.

I would have joined him there but its damn too far.
Hey bro... how about health Jobs.. like in Pharmacy retail, industry and hospital pharmacy.. how are the Job prospects like?

There is "Mathematician" on the occupational list and the assessing body is Vetasses. That should normally be your route, however, you need to have at least 12 months experience in that field to get a positive assessment from Vetasses.

If using your banking experience, then you may want to nominate " customers service manager" and tailor your experience in that line. With this your degree would not matter much, but one thing I'm not yet sure of is if you needed 5 years work experience for that not to matter. You can do yourself a lot of good in searching Vetasses site for all the information you seek.
Hello bro.
An agent claims that he want to get a a working visa for my brother in Australia, through a company that will kinda do the sponsorship.
And this guy has just O'level oo

Are you willing to pay $200 or more for the extra 20kg?

Yes

If you are willing to pay, you can carry as much kg as you want. I should warn you that it is better you use the money to buy those excess things you are carrying here than pay for extra kg. The charge is ridiculous.

Good day oga bellong and fellow nairalanders

Please my family is set to leave tomorrow and we have a few challenges.
We thought his office would book our temporary accommodation but we've been informed that we have to book it before leaving here and get refunded later. Is it not too late to book and if not, how do we go ahead with that? We have googled some accommodations tho but would appreciate any idea on how it works.

Also, do we have to book a bus/car to help us from the airport to the accommodation or will we get same without booking from the airport on arrival?

Lastly, we are entitled to 10kg extra as indicated in our offer letter. Do we pack the 10kg separately or it can be added in our overall baggage allowance?

Thank you all for your urgent responses.

PS - our location is Sydney CBD and office is located on George street.

Just ask the agent the class of the visa... For example we have visa class 189, 190, 489 and the likes. Ask the agent for the visa class then get back to us.

For extra 10kg,pls call the airline yourself to find out what’s acceptable.

For transportation from airport, the only option I can think of now is you getting a taxi.It will be expensive but not too bad.

For accomodation,at this stage,I can only suggest Airbnb.

I have always supported the idea of bringing food from Nigeria.if you can afford extra luggage, pls do it.

However contact the airline latest 72hours before departure and request to buy an extra bag(some airlines do 23 others do 32).If you’re okay with the cost, you pay and buy it then.

It’s way cheaper to do it this way than to just turn up at the airport with extra kg.You will pay through your nose!!!

@Onizea,

Book a hotel online or Airbnb accommodation.

Take a taxi or bus from the airport to your destination. You don't need to book ahead for this.

The 10kg extra, is the company willing to pay for the extra or they have booked it along with your ticket? I don't understand that part.

What you should do is pay for another 23kg so that you can get 3 bags.

@Aussy4life,

Don't bring in beans. Quarantine are usually skeptical because of the weevil. You could be lucky to scale through but it is better not to bring all the way from Nigeria and lose it at the port of entry.

Yams are seasonal. It comes around once a year and this is the season.I have paid for 80kg worth which I intend to freeze and hopefully use until next year. The last time I had yams was like Aug last year so I’m not making that mistake again and buying in bulk this time.

Someone told me where to get frozen yams too but I have never tried to.

Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPhone

interesting...do you freeze the yams whole as they come or you peel and cut?

Up to $200 on extra luggage? You would probably go home with a trolley full of food if you take that amount shopping at an African shop in any of the big cities.

Just like Bellong said. Costly or expensive is relative. Especially with the initial practice of converting Aud to Naira and Naira to Aud.

Even bread would appear expensive if you convert the cost to Naira. Lol

Yes.
That's the way forward.

I remember the first day I saw Beans to buy here.

I was dancing in my house and making funny faces. I was soooo happy that I found beans.

I finished cooking the beans that night and couldn't eat it because I was overjoyed.

cheesy

I was told that this type takes a lot of time to cook properly, so I put one of my spoons inside the beans throughout the cooking period.
Then I put like one massive bulb of onion for less than 0.5kg.
