Bro, If that was all you were asked ,then u are a super lucky person .....

MY OWN CASE WAS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS WITHIN THE SAME UI. (UI used 3 panels today)

From my own personal experience , the interview has no standard pathern .....you could be asked anything .......

below are my experience today at UI, IBADAN (Msc) .....

1. after i introduced myself .....immediately they learnt i was from the EAST ( IGBO ORIGIN) , they waited for like 2 mins and started murmoring to each other in Hausa language ....(All of the 5 persons that made up the panel were Hausas).

2. i was not asked a single question from my SOP ....they didnt even open it ....nor cared about it.

3. All the questions i was asked were deep, tough and technical (Civil engineering questions ) my 1st degree course .
( one of them is a Prof of Civil Engineering ) ....NOTE : THIS IS OUTSIDE THE CONTEXT OF THE INTERVIEW....recall that from the invitation letter, we were only told to make a presentation of our Statement of Purpose .......This is very unfair to me .

4. i was asked up to 10 questions ......and my interview lasted up to 25min . ( while others were asked barely 2 questions from their SOP ...with a max interview duration of 4min)

5. I was asked several questions about my projecf work .....and when i explained the title and summary to them......they nullified it ...simply because it was not an oil and gas related project topic .....despite how best i tried to convince them ...that it was just an undergraduate project ..and must not be oil and gas related.

6. i was even given some tough and complex calculations to do (structural analysis of indeterminate structures.....and i was not even allowed to solve , i was told to produce the answer without solving ......which was practically impossible ......i told them the steps to solve it ....they nullified it...insisting i must produce the answer.

7. And one of them kept shouting "you dont even have any publication ".......( i didnt know when it became a compulsory for an undergraduate to have research publications)

8. And two others kept asking "what state are you from ".......

MY CONCLUSION : PTDF is dominated by the Northerners and they are BITTERLY BIASED .....they seems to appear harsh on some persons from a particular part of the country .

Using a WRITTEN APTITUDE TEST to assess everyone would have been fair to all the applicants and not this Biased method of interview where some are barely asked 1 simple question in PANEL (1) and some others will be bombarded with very rigorous questions that is outside the context of the interview ... This is one of the major reason why Nigeria is a failed state..........NEPOTISM AND TRIBALISM .....
I had a similar encounter with my interviewer that was Southerner. I did my interviewer in ABU and am from taraba state. i barely got a chance to say anything after they discovered I was already employed in a chemical plant. they checked absolutely nothing from my SOP, they dropped it by the side to my face and insisted I was blocking other peoples chances by applying. then they started firing some questions from pipeline and petroleum production ( I studied chemical engineering and frankly have little knowledge about petroleum engineering). one asked if I had ever impacted anyone in my life aside myself because I said I had no award or publication. the whole interview was somehow but I believe God is in control.

You can look at it two ways, either positive or negative. Why can't you see that they were interested in giving you a perfect score and needed to justify that. I spent less than 3 mins at the same UI today and started wondering why I was not asked many questions. So every case is different and you need to believe whatever scenario you experienced was for the best.

Cheers.

Pls can you send me your contact on nwekechimex@yahoo.com. I need to confirm some things from you cos my interview is on Friday. Thanks & God bless you

I was at UI today also, spent like 7mins.
Easy questions though.
1.what class of degree did you graduate with
2. Do you have any awards and publications.
3. Let us meet you
4. Was your project successful and do you have videos on it.
5. Why do you want a masters degree in the area you picked and not in the degree you did for undergraduate.
6. We wish you good luck.
What project? Undergraduate project you mean? Did you make presentation on your sop? If yes, in PowerPoint?

My case was also like @impactever.

I was only asked for my professional membership and academic qualification...Followed by myriads of deep technical questions...

Just when i thought it was over they asked about the happiest day of my life... I told them it was when i gained admission to study EEE.

Then with a very straight face one of the men asked so why did you not graduate with a firstclass.

With all my answers...They didnt seem convinced... but i hope for the best.

Its not really a tribal thing but rather human differences.

Lol.... @impactever.. Take Heart ooo.... but you were not alone in the grilling.

I did mine in UI on Mon and after the interview I just thot my village people had followed me here.....
In fact I couldn't post my experience cos it was too bloody. I mean a lot of people were just asked about the SOP and some rubbish questions like why should ptdf sponsor you.... while me I was grilled like well done barbecue.

Immediately I entered, they asked what I state I came from, I answered and the guy with the laptop said give me your documents and face the professor. Professor asked, May I know you..? I gave a brief introduction of myself. He then starting asking me some Chemical Engineering questions. I didn't expect such (becos every1 had said SOP SOP angry but I fumbled my way through.

Most annoying thing is when I got out yet anoda person who had just been interviewed by anoda panel was saying he wasn't asked anything serious and it was almost like gisting self.... I think they are stricter on the engineering and sciences applicants than they are with the others... or maybe they couldn't get industry experts in those oda fields to come and grill the applicants. As for the state of origin question, I think they ask it for the benefit of the FCC staff who is also on the panel

I was also asked for awards and publications too..... like say na everybody get gift or time to dey write.
On the other side my friend who was in Abuja said there was an applicant that came with no less than 8 Academic awards... shocked shocked He said hinsef for don go find im primary school result when im still dey carry 2nd or 3rd for class bring am as award

Wow.. Mine was at UNN center. And I must say, it wasn't beans.

I came for MSc and was ushered in after a PHD guy who spent up to 30 mins inside there came out.

It was a 3 man panel. I was asked to present my NYSC certificate and my statement of result. Then my awards, which I did.

Then I was asked why I chose my preferred institutions.. As I was answering, the lead interviewer cut me short and said the schools I chose were not the best schools for the course I applied for. I tried to explain why I had chosen them as they were the few schools offering that course.. But he appeared quite indifferent.

Then I was surprised when he asked me many questions related to my course of study. Some of them were the most basic and unexpected, the others were a bit advanced. I was able to answer some well and some of them I couldn't.

After everything, the man said I shouldn't worry that he asked me all those questions to help me have an overview of exactly what I should expect from the MSc and to learn to prepare for the unexpected. It lasted for about 10mins.

I think it went fairly well, even though I was unhappy that the answers to some seemingly easier questions skipped my mind as I thoroughly prepared for and focused on the toughest ones.

My advice to the rest of you who are yet to be interviewed is this: Don't just listen to those saying you should ONLY read SOP. know your SOP, but make sure you are able to answer questions related to your undergraduate course in school and your projects. Questions from your Year 1, Year 3 or final year from any of your offered courses could pop out. Know the schools you applied to and ensure you can say one or two things about them. Also make sure you know a lot about the course you chose for msc. Don't play with the most basic definitions.

In all things, pray to your God, dress well, comport yourself and don't forget to smile even when you're asked tight questions.

Good luck and see you at the top.

I am still baffled as to the silence with respect to lawyers being shortlisted for the PDF schloarship! There were provisions for LLM courses in just three schools and they were all relevant to the oil and gas industry. Why make provisions for the courses if they would not be attended to?

The other guy checking my docs then saw my certificate and said you even graduated with Chemical & Polymrer Engineering, He then asked a polymer question.... shocked shocked Polymer...!!!??, POLYMER..?? that I had cancelled from my brain since....I mean, who polymer help in Naija). I wish I had replied that I didn't specialize in polymer, at least maybe that would have helped me but I tried to fumble through again, the prof picked up on it and started off with polymer questions until I was like embarassed embarassed.. I glanced at the 3rd panelist for help and he just said 'if you don't know it just say so' I just had to tell them I don't know it; that it's been a while I had anything to do with polymer. The prof laughed and switched to anoda part of Chemical engineering. I answered. The other man was about to join in again when the woman said time up. The man laughed and said, 'You are lucky', Madam just saved you...!!! I quickly packed my docs and ran out of there with my tail btw my legs.... Chai

I am just wondering why some of the courses advertised by PTDF on their portal are not available on the list of courses offered by the said universities. I advise all applicants to confirm the availability of the courses they selected on their universities of choice's website. Knowing this will equip you on any abnormality that may arise.

My interview was really quick and swift. I am even not happy that the panelist didn't ask me much questions to prove my worth. However, we are hopeful the end result will be successful.

God bless the follow that dropped the centre for the port Harcourt interview. I did mine today (M.Sc). When I entered they interviewers had already gone through my SOP and were very ready to ask me questions.

I was asked which state I came from, why was my first degree course slightly different from my choice of course for M.Sc, a few 200 level questions about elasticity, I was asked if I had any awards or publications.

Finally i was asked to go. I did my best to answer them. I have a strong feeling God will finish what's left.

My advice:
1) Comport yourself
2) Do not talk too much lest you open yourself up for more questions.
3) Dress corporate and neatly.
4) If your SOP isn't good enough, quickly arrange one that suits you.

God bless us all.

My own case isn't that different. I must say my GFC was swift and nicer. After my UI interview today in Environmental health...I have been having headache and fever till now. I don't know if the panelist chop witch. The man kept asking relate your research topic to oil and gas industry...after vomiting the usual thing...he kept insisting, last chance. In my mind I was like (why not search google...if its not related to oil and gas y did u guys make d course available from the school? And what is the difference btw this and HSE?) I was indifferent. I looked at madam for help to pity my sobered face...instead madam throw another question on top.
Publication rejected say my name must be the first. I didn't even bother to ask if they ticked any award for me not after 10mins+. I just wanted to leave there.
But in all we thank God. Lemme assume they were forming strict and recording something good because those fellas made me look stupid.

Your presentation is good. We see you have the capacity. Although we are not Petroleum Engineers like yourself, we would have expected you don't print a one page proposal for us. You came unprepared.

This was the last thing I heard from my interviewer.
