I think he's referring to a certain age group, not everyone.

Anyone that isn't up to 30 years old today, couldn't have really known what went on in the 90's World Cup or Atlanta '96. I think the most he can analyse would be from '98 World Cup.
See if we had picked interests from say age 4 we would have remembered vividly. Thing is most of us didn't pick interest in it cos growing up as kids our lives were about play. And you can see many here remembering the names of wrestlers cos that was what captured our imagination.

And football didn't have the global appeal it has today. So while Rashidi had welts on his back, parents today give birth to a child and one of the first things they buy is a ball. So naturally you can find an 8-10 year old child being more tactically aware than we were cos most of us, our interest picked up only in our mid - late teens.

So elyte89 it has nothing to do with intelligence but rather with consciousness or what the Germans call zeitgeist - the spirit of the times.

That's why I didn't add him among the probables, it is also same reason that made me say when the time is right.

I'm only concerned with our left back position. I hope Deji Behruether and chima okoroji start playing for Frankfurt and Freiburg first team respectively next season. Deji's free kick ability no be here oo.

Well, sometimes you don't need to wait for some of these FB to play before you clamour for them once you have seen dem played and you're sure they are very good enough or if you have followed their progress from their academy until dey make the bench of a top club.

Once you are sure den you can do like me here, who is ready to vouch for any player I know is good enough, regardless of opposition or resistance from here. grin

I don't know Deji and Chima but I know we need natural LB players urgently after the WC hence my indifference to their call.

Just d same way I will rebuff anybody claims here irrespective of ur age DT u watched d foreign leagues most especially premiership, and u live in Nigeria keenly b4 d year 2000,Na fat lie, foreign league football wasn't popular in Nigeria den,due to obvious reasonNo internet,No dstv, except for d opulent ones in area who av (satellite dish) only av access, and it was very rare to c we only got to watch National teams competition such as world cup, nations cup, euro and d likes aired by NTA CHANNEL 10 AND 7 cool...and once in a while around 97 and 98,NTA DO AIR D ROTHMANS German league in weekends once in a wyle, and also Not to forget DBN too DT shows replayed matches of some premiership team most especially Man u,seems d manager of DBN den was a MAN U fan. cool
No talk wetin you no know abeg. You are just making bland, general and false statements. I started watching premiership in 1996. That was the year Arsene Wenger came to Arsenal. I remember Marc Overmars, I remember Bergkamp, Teddy Sheringham, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Peter schiemechel, Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Lucas Radebe for Leeds, I remember in 98 Moustapha Hadji played for Coventry, I remember Paul Ince, I remember Robbie fowler, I remember when Owen came on the scene even before France 98, I remember Alan shearer of Newcastle, Amokachi at Everton, Andre Flo, Gullit coached Chelsea as player coach, gianluca Vialli same thing with Chelsea, I remember Ginola, I remember when Klinsmann came to Tottenham, I remember when Arsenal bought Davor Suker after France 98 where he was the highest goal scorer.I remember watching the highlights of Kanu three goals thriller against Chelsea. And the reason was simple:NTA network with Paul Ogazi, Aisha Falode and Emeka Onyadike used to show English premiership every Saturday. I said every Saturday and they were current, as in last week's match will be shown this week and highlights of all the other matches will be shown too. It was basketball before football. I had no interest in basketball but I still remember Jordan, Pippin, Hakeem and Shaquille O'neal and Rodman. On Monday me and my classmates Oche Ochete, Asor Adudu, Andrew Odeh and many others will sit down and talk about the matches. Heck NTA even used to show futball America on Wednesdays. The other leagues I knew by reading complete sports magazine. For example I knew when Taribo West was at Auxurre in ligue 1, I vividly remember not knowing he was Nigerian. Only at Atlanta 96 did I see him in our colors.I knew what Jay Jay did to Khan not because we watched it but we read it

Abeg talk wetin you know. Oya rebuff what I just wrote.

2 years? Nawa ooo

The oldest event I can remember clearly was when I was that kind 4 years. Arguably my worst day grin my mama put fresh pepper to my eyes because she believed that I was the one that stole the fish from the soup pot.

It is always in my memory because of some obvious reasons.

Go online, type "what do the Dutch FA, team coaches and legends think of ebuehi and ehizibue?" This season ebuehi was rated the second best, if not the best RB in the Eredivisie while ehizibue came fourth abi fifth sef.

Yes ehizibue came to prominence before ebuehi and he is also a year or two older than ebuehi. But he ain't no better RB than ebuehi bro, maybe he is a better winger/wing back. I have seen both play in different matches and against each other, ebuehi always came out tops and unscathed.

Same age I think

Wrong. By 1996, Multichoice, currently DSTV was in lots of homes beaming live games from most top leagues around the World including Europe and South America.

By 1997, cable satellite dishes was rampant in Port Harcourt. I do not know of other areas. Hot live games had people trooping in mass to different homes to catch their favorite teams and players.

I watched Atlanta 96 finals in my neighbors house on Multichoice. Watched the FA Cup final between Liverpool and Manchester United I think that same year on Multichoice live.
No mind am ooo. Mine wasn't cable television. It was on NTA. And like I said they were current even though it wasn't live matches.

Before you can vouch for a player you must follow for at least two seasons or more to be sure of what you're vouching for.

NTA studios did a wonderful job covering France 98, especially showing the games that were not televised live during the breaks in the afternoon.

That dancing black baby with pant was hilarious and brought a lot of laughs to people in the country. So hilarious and matched the celebration. John Fashanu was also in the studio. Do you remember Ronaldo colliding with Barthez was another dark night moment, giving Ronaldo collapsed that day before the game. Nice one.
I remember the collision between Ronaldo and bathez, that was the end of Ronaldo game.

And for asha80,picking interest den was largely on d pitch of play, children den would give deirself "nicknames" of popular footballer reigning den.I can remember vividly DT we do fight for d name rashidi yekini when we want to play 3aside and not an 8year old child or below sticking glue to a TV set b4 a match having d intention to watch live matches as we do now as adult, but kids of today, are more interested in watching live matches, I c dem very well in viewing centers arguing passionately prior to d match, emergence of viewing centers, internet in early 2000,made d sport more popular among kids now, meanwhile those who got to watch it den was thru default, maybe d family is watching d match or ur uncle or fada took u along to a place where dey re watching d match when NEPA took light at home.

the first world cup I ever watched in full was the korea/Japan world cup...
in that tournament after the exit of nigeria....Italy became myfavorite team..
I watched how Del Pedro...equalised for Italy against Mexico...he came up from the bench... In that tournament...my excitement was to watch the likes of del Pedro play being the highest paid world player then and figo was the world best....
the Nigeria goal...against Sweden caused jubilation in school then...I was still in primary school then... everyone shouted and was so excited only for my class teacher to report to us we lost the match afterwards.....I was sad all through that day.

prior the Nigeria match against England...I severally asked my senior cousins and many other senior football lovers...on the possibility of nigeria still making the round of 16.... my cousin told me even should we beat the English team 100 nil we won't qualify... I was so sad....all through.
I had to start root for Italy... the Koreans were the cheats of that tournament.... only God knows how they made it to the semi-finals.... they defeated the Italians with the golden goal rule....
and beat the Spaniards in penalties...with goals from Spain disallowed during the hour mark for off sides....

Senegal almost made the quarter final..by beating turkey if not for selflessness ib the part of the players.... they played Turkey to a stand still that day...even had goals disallowed.... prior to Turkish last minute goal.... that tourney was Turkey first world cup...and only world cup they have qualified for....

I still remember ronaldiho goal against England...which topped the head of English goalkeeper seaman... former arsenal and man city goal keeper....

I remember the spree of goals Uruguay and Senegal game which ended 3 all draw... Senegal was a beast team in that tourney....

I remember the whopping of Saudi Arabia by the German team 8 nil first time I got to know of players like klose and ballack...
afterwards cameroon manage win the Saudi's by 1 nil courtesy of Samuel eto goal....
that tourney was one I will never forget... the majestic stadiums and buildings in the cities of Japan and south Korea were second to none....

I rememeber the fastest goal was scored by the Turkish captain 11 seconds against south Korea I have forgotten his name...though i still remember Hassan sas.
I still remember
that world cup signed my interest in football...

Almost my experience too but at elyte89 said, how were you able to comprehend those match. I could only remember that we lost to Argentina, Sweden and drew England. The Sweden loss, I heard goal shout while in school and somehow we knew Aghahowa was the scorer. The match against England was boring to me cause there wasn't any goal. Whoever prosecuted those were inconsequential to me then cause I don't know.
I could remember how my younger brother felt Senegal were being cheated but I never cared. I wanted the turks to win cause of their goal keeper. I could remember that fast goal too. All I heard was "what! 11 seconds?" I only knew it was quick. Then Germany winning Saudi Arabia 8-0. I began to love the Germans from that day. That feeling was so sweet that I was sad to learn that it's usually once in four years.

Oga don't say. I was three years old when I watched Nagi the snake girl. I was among the first set of kids that started Pre nursery at airforce Base in Makurdi. Our school was close to corporal mess. I can remember mama Eneh Ameh our nanny(always had affection for her and it was mutual) I remember my classmates: Emma elijah, Wole Agoyi, Christopher. In the morning we'd watch movies and musical videos on the black and white TV that type na with boxlike cabinet. That was where I first watched Billy Ocean.

Kpanpangolo kpangolo was our every morning warm up song. I was three years old. Did that for a year before I started nursery one at four years old. I say I can still remember alot.
