CAN is utterly foolish for accepting the money.

Goodwill donation or not, in order not to have raised this sort of dust that has now begun to blow everywhere, they should have politely declined the cash gift offer. Imagine, they collected cash! Why? Cheque could have been more dignified, traceable and documented.
