@Hotstepper, good day to you. Please do you think its necessary to send a change of intent letter to canadian embassy here in Nigeria before one embarks on this missionary journey. They do it a lot on the birthing in U.S thread and I though I should ask for guidance. Thanks for your help.

Meanwhile, I sent you an email some weeks back but didn't get a reply. Would be nice to get reply. Thanks.

UPDATE SO FAR ON MY JOURNEY

POE
Got into Canada about 2 weeks ago. There was serious wind storm on that day so the waiting time at the airport wasn't funny at all as they could not unload our luggage from the aircraft until after 3 hours. That aside the POE wasnt automated as some people mentioned on this thread. It was only automated for PRs and Canadians. For non-residents, there was another queue where you are questioned on why you are in Canada and for how long. Thankfully mine went well as i already indicated during my application that i wanted to avail childbirth in Canada. The immigration officer pulled out the info from their system and said i was correct and he even thanked me and said he was happy that people still tell the truth that a lot of people still lie to their faces. He said there is no crime in coming for child birth as long as you tell the Visa officer and you have the required funds to cover the birth. Got stamped in and he wished me the best.

DOCTOR'S VISIT
Finally had my first visit to the OBGYN i was referred to this week. Referral was done by a family physician from a walk in clinic. My advise is if you cant get an OBGYN by urself who accepts self pay patients, come into the country earlier and go into a walk in clinic to see a General physician who will then do the referral for you to several doctors. There will definitely be one who will take you. The only reason why it is good to look for the OBGYN yourself ahead of time is to make the referral and acceptance process easier and faster.

Family Physician consultation fee- $60
Had to do blood work and ultrasound which had to be sent to the OBGYN prior to my first visit to OBGYN
Ultrasound- $182
Blood Work- $94
OBGYN First visit- $200
Subsequent Visit will be $100 per visit
Doctors Delivery Fee (This varies from doctor to Doc Budget between 1600 and 2500 for VD) for doctors in Oshawa/Whitby Region

Hospital i will be using
Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering (Rouge Valley Ajax Pickering)

Hospital Charge
$2000 for mother if in general ward (4 in a room)
$2285 for private ward
$100 bloodwork
If Ultrasounds are required ($300)

$620 baby charge
$100 bloodwork
If xrays are reqd $300.

This is all the info i have so far for those who need approx cost. and guidance on the process.

Special thanks to "The Specialist" who assisted me on this process. I am grateful, you deserve plenty Accolades

PS: you can look up the OBGYNs who practice in the hospital above and give them a call if they will be willing to take self pay patient and ask for their price. Then once you come into Canada, the referral process becomes easy.

Waiting for my LO to arrive.

Sorry for the long story- just trying to help as much as possible.

Please can anyone help me. Totally new and confused on how to make our Canada trip. I am taking my wife to have a baby in Canada and so far all I have done is to secure a visa. I have read quite a lot on this trend but still confused. I have no family or friend in Canada so will be lodging for the period it will take. Our first child was born in the USA and it was much easier die to family. My questions are:
Is there an arrangement that include total package for hospital and accommodation.
Which city or province will be the cheap eat for us in English speaking parts.
What hurdles should we anticipate with immigration at Port of entry.
Can anybody give me a number of someone I can call for help or as business in canada.
I must say that this trend is a blessing.
Finally I see many people say they indicated the want to have a baby before getting a visa but I didn't see that option in the online visa application form I filled.

UPDATE.

So we(hubby & wife) entered Canada yesterday. POE experience was smooth. Automated machine didn't work well for us so we proceeded to the Immigration officer's counter and told him the machine didn't work for us. He said its ok and asked us a few questions like;
Why are we here in Canada? Vacation and Childbirth
When are you due? July.
Have you made arrangements with an hospital? Yes
Any meat products? No
Tobacco? Yes a few packs.
How long will you be staying in Canada for? 2months plus.

Then he filled a yellow paper and wished us all the best and to proceed inside and show them the card. The guy we met at the next entrance, saw the yellow card and showed us to the right(an office with other people on the queue). We joined the queue and waited for our turn. It was a lady officer who asked us other random questions like the ones above, then asked how much money we have with us and all. Told her and asked if she wants to see it, but she said no need. Did fingerprints, and stamped us in. Then straight to baggage claim. Even the few food items we traveled with was not even checked.

Now we're at our host's at Brampton. Thank God for everything.

No, we did not declare childbirth during our application. This is because we only just found out about the good news(pregnancy) after submitting our application. So we were a little bit worried too about POE but God took control.

As for Doctor & Hospital in Brampton, we're still looking and intend to make some more contacts this week. This is where we have free accommodation, hence why we're sticking to Brampton.

Anyone with valuable information about Doctor and Hospital in Brampton with fair costs should please help. EDD is early July.

Thanks for your help.

Hi All,
Wanted to share this to help anyone looking to give birth in Canada make an informed decision cos knowledge is power!

A relation of mine came over late last year and had her baby at Oshawa and we found out that the child delivery charges are a fraction(less than half) of what the charges are in Toronto( where she delivered her previous babies)

Below is a breakdown of charges for child birth @ Oshawa

Doctors(obgyn) fee...$1600 (irrespective of c-section or natural delivery, and provided delivery is without complications)
Ante natal check up...$72.50/visit
Blood tests...$51.20
Ultrasound...$175.40

In Toronto Doctors fee is $3500 (this is the charge as of three years ago for complication-free delivery and does not include ante natal visits, blood tests, ultrasound)

Hospital fee is $2500/night...this is same across Ontario (of which Toronto and Oshawa are part of)

Hope this info helps in making informed decision...
i need your help @The specialist

You are killing this thread as you have turned it to your business office.

The US birth thread grows because people at large share a great deal of information openly but over the years you have done the opposite.

It has to stop
