A Nigerian man @dijiaderoGBA on Twitter has taken to the micro-blogging platform to narrates the story of his friend who left Nigeria for Canada a week ago wept on phone when he called him because he felt that he has wasted 25 years of his life in Nigeria.

Read the tweets full tweets below;
"~ A friend of mine just left Nigeria for Canada last week. Just got off the phone with him & I was surprised when man started crying & I asked why he was doing that & he said “I feel like I wasted 25years of my life in Nigeria”

Oh Nigeria, what have we done to deserve all these?

~ Let me say this in pidgin “If you never reach another man’s farm, you no go know say person farm big pass your own”

Hopefully, Nigeria will be a better country for us all but really, seems we aren’t enjoying anything in this Nation."

Refugees is extreme my guy. People must migrate and some will stay back. There is a popular saying in my place that the lazy ones are those that run away from the country; though I don't subscribe fully to that.

People should stay where they feel comfortable but no place like home.
but your president always run away whenever he has headache

People see things from different perspectives .Dangote was launched in Nigeria and is now taking over the continent and the world took notice. If you like ,locate Eldorado and migrate there,as long as that country has natives,or ethnicities that are naturalised there, you will die a foreigner without the full rights accorded its own.
No matter who is in power, how do you ignore a market of 200Million people.Just watch out for the billionaires lists of 2028,there will be many more Nigerians but I can almost bet that absolutely NONE of them will be ressident in Canada,USA,UK or Australia.Prosperity is in the mind and has nothing to do with location.I live in Naija and I am overwhelmed by a faithful heavenly father.

Nigeria is still dacing one corner in the hand of a few who have tie the destinies of the Youths in this country and go about calling them lazy up and down Africa. Check out most Nations that got Independent alongside Nigeria, they have given us a wide gap in terms of developmentat strives.

just wondering what pple think of nigeria...u pay high rents in those countries abroad. u make just enough to cater ur expenditures. thanks to exchange rate that give them leverage over nigerians only in nigeria. maybe there are things am missing here...well many opportunities abound there but e no reach to regard ur formative years in nigeria as wasted.

Pls if u 've got a well paying job thank God for your life....
Cos u won't be under any pressure to think of abroad as an alternative....
Who will not like to be in nigeria if it works....
A country where a graduate earns 30 thousand a month n u want him to be happy....
No social cushion, No institutional support of any kind....
Very harsh and hostile environment with workers being owed for months....
Canada is so cold n lonely, yet securing it's visa is a testimony to most nigerians....
There's nothing to be proud about as a Nigerian....
Even my Pakistani friend here in uk once told me nigeria is a big disappointment.....
The only time an average nigerian can enjoy that country is if he's fortunate enough to attain the most senior/executive level of his career...
At that level, he's almost at par with his foreign counterparts as far as renumeration n comfort are concerned....
Most people attain that level well into their 40s anyway when the allure of abroad would have diminished.....

what responsibility should we take? How on earth should we fix the continent when we have wicked leaders who do not care about the welfare of the people they lead. The people you mentioned above traveled abroad to get fully equipped and they thrived when the government was better.

Jim ovia got his BSc in Biz Admin from southern University Louisiana and masters from university of Louisiana in Monroe. He also graduated from Harvard business school. He traveled abroad to gain all these. He didn't school in a Nigerian University where you have outrageous school fees with shitty education.....that breeds half baked graduates. Universities where lecturers victimize and assault students.

Ovia started Zenith when I was 10 years old, when the economy was striving well. The economy favored him and he leveraged on it. Do you know the number of companies that closed down in this regime? Do you know the number of graduates we churn out every year without hopes for jobs or even soft loans to start business. Do you know getting a visa to further your education was so easy then than now.

DO YOU KNOW THE EXTENT THESE YOUR SO CALLED POLITHIEFTIANS HAVE BASTERDIZED THE COUNTRY, AND TURN IT INTO SHAMBLES?

The worse is that the youth cannot even stand up against them cos it seems like we run a dictatorship government now. #Talk and you die!

Say what you know and are sure of, pls. I won't reply again if you refuse to be factual
true talk... I'm very sure most of their kids are resident abroad.

Its hard to believe such, nothing works , if you know the issue am facing, we have paid for bills and yet light has been cut, we request for meter but no luck, things are just frustrating I. this country, you try to change things, the system fights you back, in all honesty what do you expect people to do ? They will leave for better grass.

You are not... your social life and interests are completely different aspects to your welfare.... Some people's idea of fun is still eating isiewu with friends and watching Chelsea's matches and debating in a corner... doesn't make it weird even if you won't find is often in Canada

U have a point...
While it's much easier to to attain a successful middle class life abroad....
The only place built for a Nigerian to become a billionaire is nigeria.....
Funny enough, Nigerians in diaspora understands this more than those at home....
Of course they face institutionalised discrimination regularly n they well know the eventual outcome....
Even 2nd n 3rd generation Nigerians here complain of invisible glass ceiling.....
That's why we all must come together to build Nigeria.....
Restoring the dignity of that country is a task that must be done.....
And it starts from restructuring.....

Dissed BBQ? Not at all bro.
BBQ is what I have always had a huge passion for, right from University days.
I love barbecue, I'll always be into it but now......with some other jobs to go along.

Btw, my BBQ company is still operating in Naija.
Thanks for the heads up!

You are the only race that cannot fix your continent because you have refused to take responsibility.
If Jim Ovia, Wole Soyinka, Ambode, Soludo, Elumelu etc had run away where would we be.
Take responsibility and lead. Human beings developed Europe and America.
At an age when young men should be planning how to become a governors or CEOs, they are content to be refugees.

You clearly don't know what you are saying bro. Refugees indeed.

1. Fake story as usual.
2. I don't see the point. Everywhere has their problems, some only more than others. After three - five years of staying in the land he'll start recognizing their own failures and start complaining.

No Argument! You are absolutely on point!
In short in 2016 after necessary exams, I moved to start my PhD..got to embassy I was turned down. I just dropped the ambition for now and continue getting the money and catering for my family..maybe the VO would like my face sometimes later....
but really I feel no pressure about travelling. I need just their certificate so as to secure better placements be in TEPNL, SPDC, NLNG or any better org.
Thanks for your insight!
