Attorney jnyuwa02, Do I sound like a comedian to you? Of course not!. On this reputable thread, I have never claimed to be a custodian of knowledge, I am always open and eager to acquire knowledge at any given stage in life. I am not a guru and I haven't claimed to be one either. What amazes me the most with your post is that you always make use of the word Many to describe something you're unsure and uncertain about them. If you read closely from my previous post, I said a supervisor may decide to write a letter on behalf of a student stating the applicant research study purpose, of which this letter will be included during the time of visa application submission.
Definitely! We are intelligent beings and must not agree from same perspective because no school whatsoever has the right to expedite the processing of an applicant visa. More so, a supervisor lettter may or may not influence a visa decision.(Don't be too sure).

Attorney jnyuwa02, here you go again! By his grace each and everyone here will testify to their visa approval. It might not be now, but surely it will turn out good someday. Everything in life happens at their own time and pace. Each applicant here has their own clock and so do you.
Since you said CIC was the first to initiate the contact with your school, fine!. I wish you the very best in your application!

It will end in praises for everyone here. Amen!!

Hello Frankrobbn1, austinpee4, Ratawu, mcobex, bbclue

I just came across a preparatory course for ACCA students at Toronto School of Management. It is not a degree but it's duration is over 9 months. Total tuition is about $5100 CAD. I can pay a $1500 deposit for the first semester. Their entry sessions are in September and March. I already have a Bsc Accounting (Nigeria), MSc Forensic Accounting (United kingdom). I have no work experience in my field. Though I am ACCA part qualified.
I have the following questions please:
1. What are my chances for a PR through this route?
2. Where will I get information on the exchange rate to use and can I receive student exchange rate from the CBN?
3. How much should I budget as annual living allowance for bank account balance?
4. How much time will I get to work after my programme?
5. How easy or difficult is it to find a minimum wage job there? In the UK, it took me about 6 months to get a sales advisor role at Sainsbury's. I was working part time and schooling full time. I am wondering what the situation in Canada is.
6. As per the medicals, what are they looking for? If I have a chronic illness like asthma, will it affect my chances?
7. What is the going rate for flights to Canada?

Thank you in advance.

OvaSabi1,

Having a MSc and Bsc and going to Canada for a 9 months program that is not a degree won't fly here. Go for a degree that is higher than your already completed degree, which is a Phd to show a logical progression. Going for a second masters degree in Canada that is directly related to your previous studies will also fly with justifiable reasons backed up with facts to why you opted out for a masters degree in Canada instead of a Phd at that point in time.

Answers:
1-) Your purpose of visit will be questioned by the visa officer if you plan using the 9 months non degree as your intended program. Also, After the completion of studies in Canada, student is eligible to apply for a post graduate work permit, upon which after 2-3years depending on your program, you can then apply for a permanent residence in Canada.

2-) You can use www.oanda.com for your exchange rate and yes you can recieve PTA from your bank once you've successfully acquired your TRV and ready to travel. You have to tender an acceptance letter, booked flight tickets, international passport and a visa to the bank and a PTA of $4000 per quarter will be issued to you.

3-) By CIC requirement, an applicant must show sufficient funds for tuition and living expenses of 10,000CAD for the first academic year.

4-) As said earlier, after studies in Canada, you're eligible to apply for a PGWP, which will allow you to stay back in Canada and work full time without restrictions.

5-) Getting a job in Canada is very difficult as a first timer, In as much as most employers in Canada prefers to employ an employee/worker with Canadian work experience which makes it very frustrating securing a job for a first timer in Canada. Some stay close to over 6 months before getting a job. All in all, it depends strictly by your effort and how you keep pushing to secure a job.

6-) Being an asthmatic patient won't affect your visa application. Medicals, has to do with test of urine, eyes, blood.... Mostly, HIV, syphilis, Chest X-ray.

7-) It depends on the agent you will be making use of in booking your flight: Currently flight rate to Canada is within the range of 250-300K.

You might want to check: https://www.travelstart.com.ng, and www.wakanow.com etc... or pay visit to any local/Int'l airport close to you to confirm the current flight rate to Canada.

I hope the above goes a long way in answering your questions. Feel free to ask questions anytime!

All the best!

Hello people,

It's my first time writing on the Canadian thread after many years on NL. I'm currently studying in the US(many thanks to the NL thread) but I am making this inquiry on behalf of a close relative.

He is a little above 40years, married with 2 Kids. Both parents have only their BSc.
He's been working in the Banking industry for over 10years and he's a Chartered accountant.

He's seriously considering immigration options for himself and his family.
Given that he's of age and don't have a Masters, his points on the Skilled Entry Scheme is quite low.

What feasible options can he consider? He's willing to advance his career by going back to school but not sure if he should go for PGD,MSc,MBA(that's not too expensive).

Which of the options will be easier to get Visa with?

Are there other options?

Thanks for your anticipated responses.

Studies (MSc or MBA) route should do. Let him search for schools himself, he might be lucky to get funding from schools(depending on his BSc grade and his research interest).
NB: Finally, let him join this thread and get first hand info himself instead of you doing it for him. It will help him more

In as much as it does not interfere in the decision, it makes them to hasten the process!! My wife's Dean wrote to the embassy when they were delaying and within days a decision was made. It was when she got to Canada that she saw the letter self. And then when I applied for my spouse open work permit, my wife's doctor in Canada wrote to the embassy that she would be undergoing a caeserian section and within days of writting that letter, a decision was made and my visa was refused. The letter does not have anything to do with their decision but it helps in fast forwarding the time.

Frankrobbn1:

Very true! I Haven't heard nor seen where a university in Canada interfered with immigration matters on behalf of a student. Universities issue out acceptance letters and after which the applicant is left with the responsibility to sort for their visa themselves. A supervisor may decide to write a letter on behalf of a student stating the applicant research study purpose, of which this letter will be included during the time of visa application submission. The fact remains that no university in Canada has the right whatsoever to expedite the processing of an applicant study visa application.

5. How easy or difficult is it to find a minimum wage job there? In the UK, it took me about 6 months to get a sales advisor role at Sainsbury's. I was working part time and schooling full time. I am wondering what the situation in Canada is.
