Hello all. Good day. Please i need help. I was denied visa sometime this month and I have made up my mind to forget about this fall and go for spring 2019 admission. One of the schools I want to apply to just replied my mail informing me I can resume this fall, the school is of top rank too. I have all documents handy but my fear is *getting an appointment between now and June or first week of July latest* . Please who have been denied this period that wanted/want to reapply? Any success with the reapplication? I wouldn't want to be asked to pay another seat deposit to secure a deferral into Spring session next year. I just wish to know if I can secure another appointment for Fall by first week of June. Is there anyway I can check? I need answers please. Thanks everyone

People spend hundreds of thousands to do an mba at Harvard, UPenn etc. for a reason. Aside from the prestige, you are almost likely guaranteed a top paying job after school. Can you say the same for an mba from UALR?

Exactly my point!

I don't know the career plans of the poster, but if it is to work in MBA-level private equity or consulting for McKinsey, Bain, Boston, Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC or to join an Associate position at a top bank like GS, JPM, BofA etc, which are the most sought-after positions by MBA students, it's better to join a better program.

But if the poster is targeting roles at FMCG, retail, marketing or other similar roles, ranking does not really matter in that case and UALR will work fine.

It seems that students that were denied in the last six months have not been able to book appointments. Let's just be hopeful that the development will improve in the coming weeks.

Goodluck!

hello house, please I want to ask if its a bad idea to wear native dress to the embassy for visa interview as a guy and I also want to know if have been able to upload my passport on the ds160 form, do I still need to take any passport (the 2 by2 size) while going for the visa interview.

1. "Very slim" was my statement. I didn't say it is impossible. When you run the stats and check placement records, you'll discover that career outcomes at top MBAs are better than that of UALR. No matter how we drag this talk, it won't still change the fact that getting a top top paying job post-MBA FOR INTERNATIONAL students is sensitive to ranking and alumni network. Even on MBA forums like GMATclub, the hard rule for international students is not to go beyond the top 40 mark for MBAs in the US.

So if the poster wants to work in a top top company especially in the best finance and consulting firms, UALR may not be the best choice because it is not a target school.

2. MBA is a mid-career degree, not a degree for entry level positions. It is often advised that people do it after a few years of working if they want to get the best out of the degree. That explains why most schools require a few years of experience before entering an MBA degree. I won't advise anyone to use an MBA for entry level positions.

Shalom!!

you and I conversation should happen in 5 years time . Then you would have moved from textbook to reality

There is no out written policy or immigration service rules that describe someone’s dressing for an embassy interview but its an interview and formal dressing will suffice. I don't think it takes alot to wear jean/shinos and long sleeve shirt. Yes take along the passport, its better to be over prepared than under prepared.

Are you trying to reapply with another school at the space of few months?
Can you defend your reason for change if school at that space of months?

if you can then you can refire, all you just need is to check up on your loopholes at your last interview and fill them up.

As for availability of datr for next month, check through the site constantly you might be lucky.

All the best. Cheers

Yes I am. I confirmed on the net that the school I previously applied to has no rank. So am looking at going for another interview better prepared with a school of top rank hoping I get favored. I seem confused by the day. Also want to conform the authenticity of the statement that once denied, one can't really within 6 month of the previous denial. Thanks

All those talking about top MBA programs should focus more on the prestige and not employability.

See the 2018 ft ranking attached below, there is no material variation between the percentage of those employed 3 months post mba between the top 20 and the bottom 20 for US schools. In fact the last two US schools reported 100 percent employment.

D'Amore McKim school of business is the MBA program of Northeastern University, it reports 100percent employment. That scool is not in ft 100, it is in Boston MA where you have Havard, MIT, Babson, and Carroll that are on the ft ranking yet it gets all its MBAs jobs.

Getting a school that fits your plan shouldn't be an issue for an prospective MBA student, if you can't reach that school boy decision then you have no business going for an MBA.

red flag on the job market ....... Here you go again with this nonsense .

Yes it important to go to a good MBA program especially if you need H1B , i am all for it but a school doesn't always determine success in life .There are many managers who dont even have a degree and work their way up . Similarly you can enter an MBA program , but enter at an entry level position and work your way up . Nobody can really predict what the Job market looks like . Even the school recruitment officer can not predict how the market will go one year from another

It's not about employment fam.
Check the firms those people joined and their salaries.
100% placement at McKinsey, Bain, Boston, Goldman Sachs, J. P Morgan and Bank of America is different from 100% placement at small retail shops. How many graduates at Northeastern MBA join McKinsey? Can you compare that with Harvard Business School MBA? Some MBA programs can get you to some places while others cannot. People that pay those huge sums for brand names know what they are looking for.

Salaries are very much different and prestige are also different. These are simple mistakes people do before dumping into the MBA train.

Oga, the guys that go to the top schools you mentioned above are self selecting i.e wizkids and stars that want to be superstars. They have the profile and a prestigious MBA would do the magic of getting them to a VP level faster with three years experience as analysts.

You dont find guys with those self selecting profiles in the mid programs because it does not fit their plans.

Do you expect an associate from Vanguard, Fidelity Finance, GS, State Street, etc to apply to Fisher, Smith, Babson or UConn? Definitely No. His place is the top program and he won't settle for less than his pre mba salary that is around 140$ to 180$k. You now see why they report high salaries.

Go checkout rejects from havard, stamford and the like and you ll see that the top programs will continue to report those attractive stats

In Nigeria embassy it difficult for applicant to say the have a relative living there and for this case he even has one that is there and currently working...which is against the the process.... He he, young at heart.

Let add more perspectives.

This time fourteen years ago, you were US bound for an MBA program.

Twelve years ago, two years before the financial crisis that wrecked the us labour market, you were hoping for a job and probably a rookie employee in the midst of the crisis.

You survived all the ups and downs.

Indians are also denied visas as well. They are also scrutinized well. I don't know the forum you checked but many of them don't get their F1 visas too. The Indians and the Chinese have migration intent and it is also well known to the visa officers. From what I have noticed from different visa transcripts, nothing is cast in stone concerning certain things. Everything is at the discretion of the VO. Having a relative in the USA could hamper or better one's chances.

Lol, I'm glad you finally agreed to the point.

However, I want you to remove that thought that people in top MBAs are aliens. They have one head like everyone else.

Also, not everyone that apply to Harvard or other top MBAs are top Analysts in top finance firms or earners of $148k+. We also have earners of less than $1k monthly in Nigeria that still join those schools and join top companies. So those schools are not reserved for aliens.

A large percentage of MBA students are even career switchers. People switching from marketing to Finance; people switching from finance to consulting and people switching from core tech to product management. So not every applicant is a Wall Street geek.

Finally sha, I rest my ink.
Thanks alot.

Oga, you have chosen to believe what you want, I did not agree to any point, I only showed you why the top MBAs report high salaries and it is that a bulk of the entrants are high earners.

I never mentioned anywhere that Nigerians that earn low salaries do not stand a chance of getting top MBAs, the debate was about top MBAs reporting high salaries.

The reports on switching careers is not entirely true as presented in the reports. A friend worked in the credit department of a bank and lands a consulting job with PWC in the US, he is seconded to a client's office to manage credit, on paper you would say he switched from banking to consulting but he is still doing the same thing.

The above does not however take away the fact that people do switch to different industries and assume new roles.

India is difficult as well... however indians help each other more and share more information so the people who come back to share that info and help others

There were a couple of people I worked with and did mock here (when i use to don't do it anymore so no pm please ) and they got their visa. I had to harass them to share transcript. It was force as they didn't want to. That our people for you. I think a lot more get the visa and never post it here for whatever reason. Maybe afraid of electronic village people grin ?

So the few success you see here these days , might not be a true reflection of what goes on daily at Nigerian embassy

But I'm glad I've made my points clear.

I smiled at your assertion about career switching. FYI, MBA is the best degree for career switchers in business field. I don't need to over flog this issue.

100% placement in school A with jobs at top finance and consulting companies is not the same as 100% placement in school B with jobs at FMCG and retail roles.

Also, Nigerians with $1k monthly still hit awesome salaries after their programs.

We all choose to believe in what we believe in.

VO:What kind of Job would you get with this degree in Nigeria
ME: I will take up a job with a law enforcement agency here in Nigeria where I would be able to utilize the skills and knowledge which I would have learnt in helping my country to tackle the crimes that we are facing from occurring frequently.

ME; Thank you and enjoy the rest of your day.
na so i dey say thank you Jesus till i got to the car park.

Please this is my proposed transcript. Please help me check it. Criticism is highly welcome please . Thank you.
Me- Good morning
VO- Good morning, pass me your passport and I-20
VO- where are you going to?
Me- I’m going to North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina for my masters in History.
VO- what’s your major?
Me- History
VO- how many schools did you apply to?
Me- For full applications I applied only to NCCU but I applied to the University of Wyoming but a decision from NCCU cake through before I could complete the application of University of Wyoming.
VO - so why NCCU?
Me- Aside from the full scholarship I got to attend NCCU, NCCU’s history department enables students to enjoy and benefit from a mentoring environment that allows students reach their full potential and places them in a position to be successful researchers as the schools history department produces more students who have earned their PHD in history than any other Historical Black college and University in USA and this I am fascinated by as my career goal is to be a history professor in one of the top universities in Nigeria and I also feel proud as a Nigerian to be attending a school in USA who’s chancellor is from Nigeria.
VO- what’s your highest degree?
Me- B.A in history and international studies
VO- so how did you hear about NCCU?
Me- my sister first told me about NCCU and then I made a research online about it and I was very impressed by its cultural diversity and how easy it would be for me to settle in well being that its HBCU (Historical Black College and Univeristy).
VO- how come your sister knows about NCCU
Me- she went to North carolina A&T and she
told you great stuffs
about the school which she learnt from her friends schooling
there..
VO- I see you graduated since 2015, what have you been doing since then?
Me- after graduation, I completed my NYSC and I started working with my dad at his Quarry in Ogun state .At the quarry I help out with general administrative duties including but not limited to typing of memos, taking minutes in meeting, I take stock too and staff recruitments and salary preparation. It’s more like the HR of the company sir .
VO- in your previous interviews I noticed you wanted to go for Peace and Conflict Resolution why change to History?
Me- History and international studies is the course I did as an undergraduate. And In NCCU I get to minor in Peace and Conflict Resolution.
VO- what’s your study plan?
Me- I must complete a minimum of 21hours of History major classes ,9hrs of external minor and 9hrs of internal minor related to History, complete a reading proficiency exam, complete a comprehensive written exam and complete a research thesis of 6hour credit which includes oral exams.
VO- what will this course do for you
Me- A masters degree in history is extremely versatile, and after the
completion of my studies i would be taking up a teaching position at
my Alma mater .
Also, Nigeria history is enriched by archaeological discoveries just
like  Egypt, Rome and Israel to which millions of people in search of
truth and possibly their roots pay so much in accommodation and
travels to register sentiments and presence. It is unbelievably
surprising that in Nigeria no such effort is made to match these
countries, Thus i plan on collaborating with the Government in giving
Nigeria rich history her  best possible recognition  .....
VO- who’s sponsoring you?
Me- I have merit scholarship and family support
VO - types for a while and says your visa has been approved.

If i was going , I would take it as an interview and dress formally .... but as others have said there are no rules against native
