… As NIC takes over mediation process
By Luminous Jannamike

ABUJA – In consideration of the plight of health-seeking public and to give room for an amicable resolution of its dispute with the Federal Government, the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, on Wednesday agreed to suspend its 44 days old strike on Friday June 1, 2018.

This decision followed the intervention of the National Industrial Court, NIC, which offered to take over the mediation process between the striking health workers and the government.

Before now, an NGO, the Incorporated Trustees of the Kingdom Human Rights Foundation, KHRFI, had obtained a court order against JOHESU; mandating the health workers to suspend their industrial action on the 21st of May, 2018.

But, in pursuit of its constitutional rights to either comply or challenge the Court order, JOHESU filed an appeal at the Appellate Court.

However, the leadership of JOHESU decided to sheath its sword and direct the members of the union to resume duties since the NIC, as a neutral and impartial organ of the Judiciary, has mandated its mediation centre to take over the negotiation and reconciliation processes within the next 24 hrs in the interest of the public.

if no positive result within 24hrs , I see Johesu continuing the strike...
No, the NIC is taking over mediation within 24 hours, NOT delivering judgment within 24 hours. There's a difference..

Nurses and pharmacists should wake up and disengage from Johesu... The three core clinical professions are medicine, nursing and pharmacy. They should focus more on "re-professionalisation " of there profession. The 3 have different Jobs in clinical practice. Let the doctors lead, it doesn't matter. Once you distinguish yourself in your profession of study, you'll get the respect you deserve. Lab scientists are not part of us. They are only using you guys to achieve their aims, and you get little or nothing. Imagine a doctor saying he wants to be a nurse, he wants to start running shifts like nurses, he wants to be called a matron and so on. Does that not sound ridiculous. Re-professionalize and stay out of Johesu

I'm honestly laughing at those comments from amateurs here. So u guys think u can sack a civil servant like that? It shows u guys are just student doctors cuz if u are conversant with civil service rule,u will know steps to take before terminating someone's appointment. I thank the Executive members for their efforts so far and hope the NIC will give favourable justice. Justice shall prevail no matter how doctors try to mask it.

You dey mind the numbskulls?

The most important thing is that is JOHESU won't end this strike without anything tangible. Things cannot be worse than it already is and there is no where to go but up for JOHESU.

Till that 'minister of physicians' comes to his senses hospitals will remain closed.

All the flippant rhetorics and propaganda, where did it land you. Their leaders have received brown envelopes from Saraki while their followers would continue to wallow in hunger.
The work you guys left is waiting for you, una eye go tear.

This one is consoling itself, lmao..

Some clowns were comparing Johesu with ASUU. The last card the government has is always sack, it works like magic. Ask the UniIlorin lecturers, who remained resolved to push on with their strike despite stern warnings. They were kicked out of circulation and died without their gratuity gotten.

A group of technicians uphold themselves as professionals, when in fact their term and duty has hardly changed.

Doctors, pharmacist and maybe physiotherapist are the only professionals in the health sectors, the others are glorified technicians, who over elevate their status.

Victory again for Medicine. It's will take another decade for a group of leaders to team up to futility.

Pages of newspaper has never been an avenue to disseminate information. Some overzealous individuals did that but we are following due process before we make an informed statement which will be documented in black and white. However until you hear from the leadership, STRIKE CONTINUES

I have gone through the thread and called leading exco members of JOHESU. The call-off remains unofficial till JOHESU releases a situation report and an official memo. Vanguard is not JOHESU's official mouthpiece. You are celebrating too early. Don't you think? grin

Statement on Vanguard "Breaking News: JOHESU calls off strike''

A JOHESU Executive said: This info is wrong, the strike has not been called off yet.

We just left the court and we agreed that we would only call off the strike if the NIC is successful in its mediation as a neutral body BTW US and the FG.

If successful in 24 hrs we would immediately call off the strike.
But the strike is still on

The NIC also ruled in JOHESU's favor against the NGO "Kingdom Hearts'' that they have no Legal standing to demand for our return to work
