Nairobi practically beats Lagos in everything good except population.

Nairobi beats Lagos in the number of slums, Concentration camp houses and expensive houses which the overwhelming majority of the citizens cannot afford.

Yeah, I am proud to be from Jos (central Nigeria).
I currently live in Warri city in South-south Nigeria.

Both cities have a large urban area of over 1.5 million people. By the next census next year, they would have both clocked 2 million people each. Their economies are growing too.
I visit Lagos occasionally and know the city quite well.

You see, I am happy that Nigeria is not like Kenya where everyone has to live in Nairobi.
The majority of Nigeria's middleclass population do not live in Lagos unlike your one-city country.
I can bet my balls here that all of you Kenyans on this thread live in Nairobi grin where you are heavily congested in those concentration camp houses that dominate Nairobi grin

Look at Warri city view below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3IUhortNLg

Then see my current location from google map and the view of the area I live. Can you see that here in Nigeria we do not live in concentration camp houses and slums?
When will Kenya ever get to this level?
Yeah and also in warri where l live you can get a nice 3 bedroom apartment for 300-360 thousand per annum. This is true around warri, and in jakpa, Ekpan to be precise. Though there are more business opportunities in Lagos and some of my family members may prefer Lagos for this reason, but l think I'd rather stay in warri than Lagos.
Also it is an oil based city and so the population of the middle class is considerably high.

They're called flats. They are good because they enable high density housing without turning the whole place into slums like these in Lagos CBD.

First of all, Lagos does not have one single place known as CBD, there are several CBDs.

That place in your picture has been demolished long ago, it no longer exists. Verify with your google map.

l think his point is that it is meaningless comparing SA with decades of white rule to other African countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, etc where the whites did little except in exploiting their resources for Europe.
At a time, Johannesburg was an important city to the world because of her gold, also take a look at the stock market of Johannesburg which has been in existence since the 19th century, why would you compare this to that of Nigeria formed immediately after independence in 1960, and hampered by some policies from decades of military rule.
The foundation of Southern Africa and West Africa is different and so are the problems. We are not saying black South Africans are dull or useless but that they were mainly iliterates until 1994, same with Nigeria which had mainly iliterates in 1960.

Lagos itself is one huge slum. Slums constitute onlt 5% of Nairobi - unless you're trying to saying a majority of Nairobians can fit in 5% of it's area which is just 34 sq. km while the few rich ones live in 662 sq. km

You guys love excuses. Now you're crediting SA's development to white people and gold. Meanwhile you have oil which Kenya doesn't - why are you not ahead of Kenya? Johannesburg is still an important city to the world and still the richest city in Africa with by far the busiest Airport, best infrastructure, most skyscrapers, largest stocks exchange busiest roads etc. To make it simpler, Jo'burg is the New York of Africa.

Albert luthuli, noble prize winner in what?? in making peace right?? Apart from Noble price in peace, why can't black Africans get noble prices in other things, at least Nigeria would rather produce in literature rather than peace, and we are literary giants even till this day, though not like we were in the eighties.

For some weird reason, you think writing literature books is better than fighting for black people and demanding equality and justice.

where do you fall urself? And what business does the local govt have in determining where natives and non natives settle?

Anyone can settle anywhere. Natives tend to live in older houses more often cos those are their ancestral houses.
Some poorer non-natives also live in those native areas and many natives build and live in the modern houses as well.

The reason we say you've never been to Lagos is because what you say about Lagos and the real picture on ground are two very different things as a real Nigerian who lives in Lagos said.

I am not trolling! Kenyan low income houses look like concentration camps yet so expensive.

Abuja main city is also very expensive like Nairobi. But as usual, Nigerian cities like I told you are designed for everyone irrespective of your pocket size.
You can enjoy a decent house in any Nigerian city no matter how small your pocket is.... You must not be forced into a congested multi-story building with thousands of people in terribly small rooms without ventilation and yet pay 10k shillings (35,000 naira) per month.

Before you argue with me, read this link below of your fellow Kenyan telling the true story of housing problem in Nairobi.

http://www.ghafla.com/crisis-how-housing-in-nairobi-has-become-a-nightmare-for-millions-of-city-dwellers/

Let us give Lagos a break and move to Abuja which is our capital city.
Look below at the different ranges of price of a single bedroom in Abuja in ascending order of cost. There are more expensive ones and cheaper ones.

Notice that all the houses look very decent no matter how cheap they are. Lower income people must not be dehumanized for the sake of making Nairobi impressive to foreigners. You people must stop living fake lives.

I am showing you numerous decent houses with their prices! You cannot show me anything! Show me decent Kenyan houses and their price tags na. Is that so difficult for you to do?

Don't show me Langata which only a section of Kiberans numerically spillover into and outnumber. That's dumb.

Show me decent Nairobi houses and their price tags to prove your city. Is that too much to ask for? grin

That is not Langata dude, that is Umoja, lol. Langata is better than all estates in Lagos.

Anyway since you're obsessed with shady online ads, let me give you one and see what your excuse will be this time.

Show me a house like this in Lagos that costs an equivalent of KES 5,500.

Well in that case it doesnt matter. Ever heard of destiny? Even if Obama was raised in Makoko, he would still have been American president so long his dad was Kenyan. The initial pre-condition was that he had to have a Kenyan father.
The preconditions to being an American president are 1.Being born in America. 2.Having at least one of your parents born in America. 3.Good education.
If Mr. Obama sn. had been in that boy's life, he would have messed it up like those of his other kids no one knows. Thank God for Obamas mother and her people. And yes, you mentioned destiny, is it your own destiny to be stuck on this Nigerian forum? Just joking.

Well let's see,

Nairobi's population (City, not Metro) - 4M people = 9% of Kenya's population
Lagos' population = 21M = 12% of Nigeria's population. Indeed many middle class Nigerians don't love living in Lagos.

Anyway, Cities and towns outside Nairobi in Kenya are far better than cities and towns outside Lagos in Nigeria. Anyone would choose to live in Nakuru below rather than Onitsha below anytime.
