Leave Higher.Ed first. The thing is a bit personal to him.

Now, did the missionaries build universities when they came here? No
Is it cheap to run a university? No
Is there any cheap private university (by your standards) on the surface of the earth? No. Even the ones built by the so called "missionaries" charge up to 7million naira per student.
So tell me, what miracle do you want the churches to perform to make the universities "free"?
Do you expect lecturers to teach and not demand salary? Do you expect cleaners to clean and not demand salary? Do you expect the university to order infrastructure and not pay for it? Do you expect them to receive their 24/7 electricity for free?

Please tell me, what plan do you have that can make a full fledged university free? Tell us this your brilliant idea that no one on earth has ever thought of before.
is it by force to own a university....No

Private universities provide a needed service in Nigeria. For a good standard, they need money to function as tithes cannot sustain it.
Should they be closed down then? I have a freind who is so embittered about the tuition of these universities because he wants his child to go there, but this same person doesn't even go to any of these churches, has never paid tithes in his life yet wants to benefit from private uni.I simply came to the conclusion that it is the love of freebies that are making people salty over this issue. They believe you've struck gold when you pay 100k total in tithes all your life and you get an education of over 12 million for your 4 children.

R3garding churches creating industries- Personally, I think schools are more important than industries in the grand scheme of things. They churn out employable graduates who can think outside the box, who can create several industries with the right mindset.
Lol...the last paragraph of this write up is funny sir...
All the graduates they've been "churning" so far how has it helped us in this country??...

Many of these private unis are still new on the block. The first set of graduates of covenant university are just about 10 years post graduation. Many other unis started after them, much much later.
It's only Igbinedion that has been there longer, i believe.
Give them a bit of time please.

Is it by force to go to university?

Everybody wants their child to go to uni, but not every graduate will make it in life. Many people abroad have
made it without going to university. A lot of them don't go and would rather go and learn how to be artisans after their secondary education. Yet they are doing fine.
Nigeria has a lot of graduates who sorted their way out of school in cash or kind especially in state universities. Those ones too will call themselves graduates? They churn out armed robbers, assassins and prostitutes, yet we're shouting graduates about.
We support people that do despicable things all in the name of sending themselves to school, yet after the school they still remain liabilities. Graduates that can't write or speak good grammar despite claiming to go to school from nursery to higher institution spending almost 20years or more of their lives being instructed in English.
Unemployable graduates who can't better their own lives talkmore of the society. Wouldn't such have thrived better being an apprentice or learning a skill right after secondary school?

What a silly question?
Why do employers prefer their graduates?
The fact that you don't know any industries from them doesn't mean there is none.

Why is this so hard for us all to get

The idea of Tony Elumelu owning a university is conceiving because, of course, he's a businessman, social entrepreneur & philanthropist.

But here, if the church isn't gaining money/profit, what do they stand to gain?

Why create an institution that widens the gap between people? All those well behaved, spiritually active guys in CU didn't learn about Jesus in university. They learnt from home & secondary school life!

If the church REALLY wants to get to the hearts of youths in the society, why don't you catch them young?? Set up affordable boarding schools, start from primary to secondary.

First of all, I do not support Falz in anyway. So don't quote me if you don't understand my points. Thank you.

My question is? What is the aim of building the University in the first place? Is it to provide quality education, or to make profit?

If it's to provide quality education, then who are the targets? The rich or the poor? Because I'm sure no poor man can afford a private university.

Take a look at this country. The churches have made a mockery of the whole education sector. Every church wants to have a university. And you want to tell me it's not for profits? undecided Even the church that will reign tomorrow are already looking for a parcel of land for their proposed university. Don't we have enough already?

Why can't these churches build industries? Why can't two or three of these churches come together and create wealth if not for anyone, at least for their members?

Instead, they create more and more divisions among themselves. This founder will boast to his students that his school is the best amongst others, and how God gave him the vision to revive the educational sector. Rubbish undecided

I need not type more so you don't think I actually support Falz. Falz should have just kept quiet. It would have been better
You are correct. That is the problem with many churches in Nigeria. Many are to egoistic.
