No fewer than 17 million Africans left the continent in 2017 in search of greener pastures, a new report by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has said.

The ‘Economic Development in Africa’ report also said 5.5 million people moved to Africa from other continents while some 19 million international migrants moved within Africa.

“Overall, some 19 million international migrants moved within Africa, and 17 million Africans left the continent during last year. The continent was also the destination for about 5.5 million people from outside,”
the report found.

It said the large-scale migration of people within Africa tended to boost growth and lifted the continent’s whole economy, urging the world to dispel misconceptions and “harmful narratives” targeting migration.

The report also said cross-border movement offered “a chance for a better life, with the social and economic benefits extending to both source and destination countries, as well as future generations”.

This continent will never improve if Africans keep running away from their problems. I know this is weird for me to say given that I have not experienced the plight that many have faced on this continent, but it's simply the truth.

They are very correct if they are not even more than the figure quoted...when i went back to my former area in benin early this year,i was so suprised cuz everywere was quiet and not lively again as is used to be before,so i asked one old man around and he told me that almost all the youths in the area are on their way to europe via libyan route numbering almost 25

You should first appreciate how long they have stayed back home and lived through the false African dream right from when they were kids. They have lived through wars, genocides, coups, famine, drought , extreme poverty, incurable illnesses, depreciating standard of living, bad leadership, all in a life time and the situation doesn't seem to get better.
Don't blame them for wanting to have a taste of a better life before they go to join their ancestors. Of what benefit would it be if you spent your lifetime in Africa and still end up in hell?

Who would blame them? A continent where almost everyone has the crab mentality. People just see you running your business and their natural instinct is to criticize destructively or work overtime to ruin it. These same people make up the governments so no surprises over what African countries are like.
