Please guys, lets becareful with our net-life (our posts, comments and interests) especially on facebook, twitter and on IG.

You wont believe that 5 months after landing my dream job with an international non-governemntal, within a short while i got along with all my colleagues (both Nigerians and foreigners) especially the admin staff who was part of the recriutment process.

Just yesterday, we got gisting, and she opened up to me that prior to the finalization of my recriutment, she was asked by the HR in the HQ to enter my full names on various social media, to see what my personality was like on the net with key reference to my posts, comments and interests.

I dared to ask her what would have happened if they had issues with my net-life. Guess what her response was; Though you emeged as the best candidate, but we sure would have re-advertised the position because of the sensitivity of the position you were to be recriuted for as we needed only a responsible social medialite which you managed to be.

This shocked me and made me more careful with my social media life. And i vowed to share this with my beloved Nlanders especially job seekers as recriuters now watch-out for what you do on the social media.

Passion to serve regardless of the pay and the working conditions,

perseverance to keep applying regardless of countless failed attempts

prayers for God's favour on your Cv which must be apt. I got the job without recourse to connections it was strictly on merit.

Humanitarian Experiences too counts alot and you can get this by volunteering.

What on God's earth will even make a supposed responsible person use an irresponsible name to open a social media account.

Whats the intent?

Thanks for your response. I have the passion to serve and currently volunteer in an NGO. Though I haven't done much to show for it but am improving. However, most of the adverts I see require experiences which I don't have. Please which of the job adverts sites do you use?

Great for job seekers, but for those who want to be their boss, live your life the way you want and others will also live their lives the way you want just to work in your company. Now, you hold the key on how other people will live their lives, but they don't hold the key on how you'll live yours. Isn't it amazing? This is to say, be a boss and live your life like a boss.

Even this comes with a greater sense of responsibility.
A single wrong tweet can bring down a whole business empire, of course in a sensitive society.

With great power comes great responsibility...

I knew it will come up to this
I saw a guy here yesterday having his business of landscaping and stuff on his signature as ad but his comment can easily knocked off a potential clients that will have his trust in line. in fact I wanted to quote the guy but I just changed my mind. Social Media is not a safe haven to just jump into and start spilling out trash thinking one will hife under anonymous. It really portray the person we really are. Even the USA embassy has also reinforce this move to scrutinize applicants social media.

I hope folks will learn and heed to this.

Very true. Every serious, social media-savvy organization now does this. It has become part of the background checks in recruitment and selection. I remember once attending an interview with the CEO of a tech start-up where the CEO was commenting on my Facebook profile picture! The simple rule is: Be responsible and sensible in all your dealings, both online and offline.

You are what you post. Nothing new here because we have become more social by posting our thoughts online. Organisations are not just looking out for your views (which you are entitled to), they are also looking at how you post sensitive information online. So, before they engage you, ts better they're not engaging someone who will come online to spill company gists.

Just make sure you're not top ranked for negative or controversial posts. We are evolving and things will still change in the future. As social animals, we observe ourselves. Even when you get the job, what you post online or in company WhatsApp group messages still matter. Be a corporate politician

So what happens if you have a common Nigerian name and 4, 5 or 8 people bear the same name with you? I have met like 6 people called Chike Obi. What would the HR person now do?

Your third name will make the difference, in a case you didn't include that, your pictures will give you away and if you don't have pictures, I'm they'll have a way of getting your social media activities.
