@Nemesis8u: i agree that the Jaguar is not an option the NAF should consider at this time. The BAE from UK also evaluated the Jags after HAL did and offered a very low bid for purchase which was rejected. I feel the NAF should have sold them as scrap and used the money raised to fund the purchase of other assets. Because of this, the NAF lost hope of ever reviving the jags and migs too. These were planes that some of which had not even seen up to 200 flight hours according to what was reported then. What a monumental waste of resources.

Regarding the price quoted then, i recall the figures being bandied around was over 200M USD for the full fleet restoration of about 18 jaguars of which 6 were trainer versions.

Look also at the Aermachi MB339 which i hear has been held up in Italy for repairs(not sure they are back to Nigeria) when we have been fighting an insurgency for 10 years. It would have helped reduce the pressure on the Alpha jet as the prime COIN fighting jet at the start of the insurgency.

We need to look at getting at least 6 air superiority fighters in the likes of Su-30 either new or upgraded pre-owned in the next 4 years while the JF17 should be at least 2 squadrons. That in itself is an issue because the rate of production by Pakistan's PAC is too slow to allow us get that number in 5 years. Can we just go directly to China after a few years of evaluation of the JF17 and get a full haul of squadrons to be delivered quicker? And while doing so, get some advance air defense systems like the BUK and Pantsir.

However, as was stated, the NAF leadership of the last 15 years prior to 2015 have not been visionary, bold and proactive enough. May we continue to see the likes of the current NAF chief so that we can build and expand our air capacity.

Well said mate.

Regarding the price claimed to be 200 million for 18 Jags.

My personal take

A new built jaguar in 2006 cost around 15.5-16.5 million dollars.

So 18x17 = 306 million dollars for 18 new built jaguars.

Since it's difficult to judge the state of the 18 jaguars then , if damage was substantial (irrespective of low flight hrs) 180-200 million dollars was more or less the price I would pay provided it included mro services for 5 years and handholding for subsequent skill development in mro and other related stuffs leading to independent capability to support the same.

Also 180-200 million dollars would include the avionics
( avionics r costly ) upgrades available then and the option for subsequent upgrades at the same price as paid by the IAF.

That would have been a reasonable deal as per me.

As for FC 1 / jf17 I have many times previously mentioned here my surprise at the naf decision to purchase the same from p.... instead of China .

Look at Myanmar they got their own version at pretty quick time with some good financial arrangement too.

I don't think NAF can approach the Chinese bypassing p........ , That option ended when the present deal was signed.

If p........ ceases to exist in the future grin
Then u can

So start praying grin grin grin

PRESS RELEASE

COUNTER INSURGENCY: TROOPS RESCUE HOSTAGES USED AS SEX SLAVES, FORCED LABOUR BY BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS

Troops of 21 Brigade supported by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force deployed in Operation Lafiya Dole to conduct Counter terrorism and Counter insurgency operations in the North East have rescued 148 civilians held hostage by Boko Haram terrorists in Modu Kinetic, a remote village in Bama Local Government Area of Borno state.

The troops rescued the hostages during an extensive Clearance Operation on Sunday 3rd June 2018, to rid the general area of Bama, Modu Kimeri and Gulumba Gana of fleeing elements of Boko Haram terrorists who had escaped from the ongoing troops' onslaught in the Lake Chad Islands and fringes of the northern borders of Borno State.

The rescued hostages, comprising 15 men, 58 Women and 75 Children revealed during a joint profiling and interrogations by troops of operation Lafiya Dole and other security agencies, that the Boko Haram terrorists had sexually violated the females and used them as sex slaves. Two pregnant teenage girls are among the rescued persons. The rescued persons further disclosed that the men were not spared, as they were regularly engaged in forced labour while in the captivity of the terrorists. They will be prompty handed over to officials of Bama Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp for welfare and administration.

The troops have also successfully cleared adjoining villages including China, Sabon Gari-1, Sabon Gari-2, Sabon Gari-3 and Sabon Gari-4 villages. Other areas cleared by troops along the axis of operation are Nguzoduwa, Falla, Bulangala, Botori and Bula Matawa villages.

Additionally, troops recovered 22 Dane Guns, one tool box used for fabricating local fire arms, four Boko Haram flags, a motorcycle and one Bow and 20 Arrows.

The gallant troops remain resilient and are carrying out further exploitation.

The NAF is now awaiting the delivery of the required Time Change Items and other aircraft spares to enable the conduct of mandatory outstanding scheduled inspections on both aircraft. Apart from its usefulness as a light liaison transport aircraft, the Do-228 could be employed for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions in the counterinsurgency and other operations in the country. Consequently, by the time the reactivation is completed, the operational effectiveness of the NAF would be further boosted and the hitherto grounded aircraft prevented from total decay.

I have asked length & breadth, no one has been able to tell me anything solid about why the MB339 is still in Italy.

6 Su-whatever isn't enough to generate any force projection. With the track record of that craft we would only have 2 or less operational without burning through NAF's budget. I am also disappointed with the way we are handling the JF procurement, why not get from China? is there any subsystem we will buy that will not come from China? undecided

That seems to be the exact plan in motion, again present NAF leadership is doing what they do best, maximin results with the little resources they are given. I think the Indians can help us install sensors and all sorts of equipment on those birds.

Oops you think the su-35/37 his only designed for dog fight, guess have a clue of what you're talking about.

The su 35/37 is a multi role & air superiority fighter jet, therefore it can be adapted for aerial reconnaissance, forward air control, and electronic-warfare aircraft. Attack missions include the subtypes air interdiction, suppression of enemy air defense (SEAD), and close air support (CAS).

It's a good asset for COIN .

And it wouldn't be a bad idea having these assets now, for future threats .

U can see the gunpods on the 2 pylons
Can also launch AShMs

Anyways sensors can be installed by anybody like EO pods , communication equipments , EW suite to intercept cellular and radio Comms of BH .

All these listings is still Air superiority and no its not a good asset for COIN.

Nigeria should just consider going to China to secure some more the FC-1/JF-17 no matter the agreements we may have signed with Pakistan. We buy some from Pakistan and some from China. e.g one squadron each from both countries as they are basically the same aircraft and we can get some concessions from the Chinese in terms of loans to purchase them and china would deliver faster as they have a higher rate of production. But what do i know?

If and whenever they return....

I am of the opinion that the Aermachi MB339 should be handed over to the Nigerian Navy since the Aircraft has the capacity to conduct maritime strike and patrol... Something quite unique in our military capability.

They could spearhead the NN entry into armed fixed wing aerial aviation.

I believe it's a forward thinking...

Written like a full blooded, self respecting Indian gentleman, however our JF17 came out of an MOU with many things bundled in - help with F7NIs, training assistance, supply of bombs and spares for F7NI, Super Mushak, etc. I believe when we considered the entire bundle, going with Pakistan was the better option.

Also Pakistan was the country that sold the JF 17 to us as a solution, not China. JV philosophy and ethics do not permit going round to the other party.

Indians should stop knocking Pakistan and the JF 17 on social media, especially on quora where you can make an Indian go I'll for a month if you tell them JF 17 is better than LCA Tejas ( or whatever). Indians are almost succeeding at confusing Nigerians and other third world countries wishing to buy the JF 17.
IF India has an equivalent solution or better, we will all buy it.
While we are at that, Pakis should stop thinking they can take on India militarily as well. India can beat, eat and digest Pakistan any day.
Every country on that continent is just crazy.
