Your supervisor is not your examiner. He cannot verify that you wrote those things yourself. I could have been getting my mercenary do it for me chapter by chapter and my Supervisor would not have a clue. That is why it is apposite to subject you to other examiners whose duty is to do primarily that.

Plagiarism cannot be checked by a defense for the umpteenth time. What you submitted is a report. They may call it thesis in your circle to make you feel you are in an academic environment but nobody in the US will honour it as a thesis. This is most likely a UK setting where they even have professional PhD programs. lol

This depends on what they call thesis. Some people use the term interchangeably to refer to projects, papers, essays and so on - it is a present day misnomer. But if thesis is being used as thesis in the very essence of the word, then I disagree with your explanation. I mean disagree totally.

What I have observed academically in some UK and to some degree Australian schools is that they have some “coursework” PhDs which is basically like an undergrad degree. But for research-laden Academic milieus like US, you cannot just submit a report that is reviewed independent of their assessment of your “thesis”. Because someone somewhere else could have been contracted to do everything for you which is the unforgivable crime in academia.

difficult to scam the system, especially in a first-rate university; so many processes are involved before you contribute to knowledge, you cannot just magically write a thesis- meaning you will have to go through mile stones (annual progress reports plus interviews). Most importantly you will have a supervisor (who you meet perhaps every week or less so), you may have collaborators you work with (if your work is multidisciplinary), you may have published in peer review journals, etc. After these, there will be no way anyone in the world will be able to write a thesis for you. From experience, your supervisors usually know when what you have done is enough to get you a PhD, he then tells you to write-up your results. Your explanation is convincing and I have actually read up on the norm in Australia. Essentially, the quality of the thesis (written form) determines the award of the PhD, in the US it is starkly variant. From what I have gleaned, it is similar to getting oneself published in a peer-review seeing that the examiners assume that everything leading to their assessment of the work was above-board. I understand most Australian schools avoid the financial aspect and time zone differences involved in flying in revered experts in the field to do the type of oral defense that obtains in the US so they adopted the method above. Interesting.

You are silly. Australian PhD theses are defended just not orally. That is the take away. So the feed back mechanism could mean the degree will be conferred after months if the thesis itself or conclusions therein need revising. The difference with this in the US is, the feedback is given immediately somewhat because it is orally done in the presence of the independent auditors/experts and the thesis itself is not as gruelly assessed because US mandates 5-6 papers published in peer-reviewed journals before graduation.

But when I said I submitted and my work has been graded you and your little minion said I have to go through a thesis defense and as such my time frame isn't plausible. You are obviously aware that there are other schools that do things differently and incorporate accreditation into the research process. You were never wrong to assume otherwise. Rightfully so too, like I said everything I posted here is a lie to begin with.

I don't post things for likes otherwise I wouldn't be here.
