Many people have been decieved into terrible marriages or prevented from marrying a good spouse in the name of "My Pastor said" or "GOD said".

I believe there is so much hypocrisy surrounding this matter. Lets face it..how come people don't seek GOD's face or ask a pastor for confirmation if the prospective spouse is an extreme opposite of what they desire..?

How many educated ladies will bother to ask GOD or pastor to confirm if a known armed robber is the one should such woos for marriage?
How many Guys will go to GOD to confirm for them if a popular LovePeddler is the one? But often times we tend to fool ourselves going to a pastor or going to bother GOD to tell us if a seemingly desirous prospective partner comes our way and i tend to wonder.

In the entire scriptures, there were only two instances where GOD expressly gave a clear direction concerning choosing a spouse and in those two instances, it was a very difficult choice and that was when God commanded the prophet Hosea, “Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom.Hosea 1:2. And the second instance was when GOD sked Joseph to marry Mary who was already pregnant.

GOD respects our freedom of choice and for the Christians, we are encouraged to be yoked with fellow Believers and as far as GOD is concerned, A man has the sole responsibility to find a wife and once he finds one and marries her, he obtains favour from GOD. Proverbs 18:22.

The summary of this piece is that we should stop deceiving ourselves by saying 'Prophet said, My pastor said, Alfa said...' because in the real sense, it is our mind telling us what we want to hear. You can rely on your intuition or peculiar signs that gives you confirmation but we should stop hiding behind those words 'GOD SAID'

As a man,it is your paramount duty to search so pray to GOD for guidance and as a lady, pray to GOD that the type of man you desire finds you.

Just as we can see from the scriptures,if GOD ever tells you to marry a certain person then it is most certain that the choice of spouse will be very difficult for you to accept and this is the way you will know that indeed, it is GOD's choice for you

I hope this makes sense.

Your write up doesn't make sense, ask Samson that married whom God did not choose for him, he will educate you better.

In everything in life you need Gods direction, either by going to God by ones self or seeking spiritual advice. A Pastor or Prophet with genuine calling will not mislead you. if you fail to involve God, you will definitely regret it.

We are human beings, we are not perfect, so it is very possible to choose wrongly. We need God direction 100%.

I didn't quote you, did I? But I'll still dignify you with a response grin I'm that generous

Another ignorant write up from you

Now, what is wrong if a man decided to ask God if a prospective woman is for him? How is that bothering God?

We all have our plans but always know that God's plan is the best for you. Yours may be good, but God's plan will always be better.

I never played down the issue of you choosing for yourself. Your article became disgusting the moment you advised that we don't need to hear from him, just because we feel or know we have met a desirous prospective woman.

That to me, is the trashiest thought one could ever imagine. grin

All your responses are on point. You strike me as a mature Christian.

I should have written what you wrote, so I'd just say thanks.

As for Toks2008, he's misfiring big time. He needs to take a break.
The hollowness in this writeup is too much. If he has experienced salvation, he needs to go back to bethel. This kind of mindset can make the Holy spirit, distance himself from a man.

Your subject alone is wrong, God can direct to the right person to marry equivalent to; God can tell you who to marry.

If you seek advice from a pastor or prophet and you got a wrong advice, you will know as a spirit filled Christian except you are not truely born again.

So the issue of "God said" doesn't move a true born again Christian in the first place.

those that are moved by "Gods said" are the half-done Christians.

if God is interested in our every dealing, even our thoughts and meditation, so why not who we spend the rest of lives with?
Yes, God tells us who we should marry because he wants the best for us, and he understands better.

But God doesn't necessarily tells us that through a cleric, sometimes he speaks to us through our intuitive.

sorry to ask oh...
Did you have any idea of whom God is?
Or what the work of the Holy Spirit is?

If Jesus Christ says that the Holy Spirit will direct us in all things is marriage not one of the all things?

First of all if you are sold out to God your choice becomes nothing.
If God is really your Lord you have no choice of your own any more.

Well I don't know about my Pastor said in marriage but I know about God said.

I don't know if you are married but I am married and I married my wife based on God's direction. One thing you should understand is that if you have not been close to God beforehand He won't start to just direct you when it comes to marriage. there must have been a total closeness and He must have been directing you in other issues long even before marriage comes up.

Sir i started praying about my marriage at about when I was 14. I wasn't praying for God to give me a wife then but that whenever I would be ready that He should guide me to the right woman. I am grateful to Him because He did guide me. I can't stop thanking God for making me to obey Him and marry the woman He sent to me. Right now I am already praying for my children that whenever their time come, that God should help them just as He has helped myself and my wife and I also pray for all their relationships.

Brother let this thing sink deep into your head. Marriage is 75% spiritual, 10% phisical and 15% financial.
If you win the spiritual side the rest would naturally fall into place. This is why in the olden days our forefathers use powerful charms time hold their families together. Some where polygamous but with the help strong charms they make the women to obey each other and there would be no friction. The man would be called "Odogwu."
I myself as a Born again Christian hold my family with prayers and also liveout what I teach my family members for them to see.
Those that married either for financial or phisical have little or no peace.

Having said all this: I am not saying that everyone that says God told them were really told by God. Some people intimidate others by saying God said. I didn't tell my wife God said anything to me until we were preparing for our traditional marriage, that was when I told her my experience and she also told me what she did at that time which was a confirmation of a prayer prayed.
If I am a woman and you approach me with God said I will not give you face and I might never prayed about it. Approach a woman like you never heard from God and allow God show her signs. That was what I did.

So Sir before you go online to set confusion in people's mind please and please again think.

I don't even know if you are even s Christian.
If you are not a Bible practicing Christian you won't understand anything.
Christianity is beyond going to church

@OP,

We Africans mostly do not understand the things we have adopted and practice: justice, law enforcement, politics/democracy, religion, etc.

It is this deficiency that makes our society substandard in all ramifications.

People have this delusion that God remote-controls everything and a pastor somehow has a direct line to God. In civilized societies, we have to consider mentally evaluating anyone who claims that he speaks directly to God. FACT in practice.

If God was to directly order a believer to marry a particular person, it would be to fulfill an important will of God. AND the circumstance would be one frowned upon or very unpalatable in the culture/environment and time of the directive. It could be to marry someone with a serious known disease, a mad person, someone society rejects, etc. Not just to choose one normal brother or sister from among the brethren.

That was the case with Joseph in the Bible. Imagine the scandal of marrying a pregnant teenager 2000 years ago in conservative religious climes of Judea. Joseph would never have married Mary if not directed by God.

As much as it might disappoint many, there's nothing special about you that God must send an angel or pastor to tell you to marry sister Jennifer or brother Johnbull that sits two rows behind you in church every Sunday. grin cheesy

Just find a wife and thereby find a good thing and obtain God's favour. O pari. God did not ask much else.

The same people who are in the party of ''God said i should marry you'' or "God told me that you will be my wife or husband". Whenever they run into marital problem caused by either spouse, they run back to members of their family to report them, instead of running back to God to report the problem

The only thing God can do is send us, good, kindhearted partners.

EVIL can also send people, so if evil can, God certainly can send too.

Asides this, marriage is a choice and not by force.

My mom got married after going to the Osun goddess river to pray, today, she is always so grateful that she married my dad.

You shouldn't have placed God in the same category as pastors. There're many false pastors who mislead people into the wrong marriage. I'm definitely an advocate of not asking pastors for confirmation or letting them decide for you.

But I don't see anything wrong with asking God. Yes, He has given us the freewill; who we marry isn't pre-determined, we choose. At the same time, we can seek His face and guidance to determine whether we're making the right decision or not, and unlike pastors, He will not mislead. You just have to make sure you listen well because God has different ways of answering prayers.

Instinct/intuition can be God's way of speaking. But one has to be discerning because it might not be of God.
How do u hear from God and u know is God talking of not instincts or pastors or parents.?
Re: Does God Tell Us Who to Marry? by NoToPile: 4:47am On Jun 11, 2018

Cool sir.

The challenge many of us face is that the only time we search for the will of God is when we are about to get married.

If you search the phrase, 'will of God' in the Bible, you'll see God's express instructions to us.

I'll only mention 1 Thessalonians 4:3: "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication"

How many people care about this will of God?

That's why we easily get deceived due to desperation. If you have been following and trusting God for everything, God will also direct your marriage. If not, it won't be that easy to make a choice backed up by God.

I just had to quote this

You are living in fornication and you expect to hear from God about who to marry shocked Iro ooo!!!

God said - Yes
Pastor/prophet/Church said - NO

Most of what people say is 'God said' is actually pastor said,I am not saying it's wrong to seek counsel from MOG but the principal conviction should come from YOU. This is why many are deceived by false prophets.

YOU should be sure it's God leading you into that marriage, it's easier if you have been making God part of your life and actions from the beginning listening to what he has to say about EVERYTHING(yes everything) but you have never asked for God's will about anything before in your life and now it's marriage you want him to communicate with you ( how will you even know how he speaks to you when you have not heared from him before)
It will take time oo. Infact when God speaks you may think it's your mind playing tricks because you are not used to it.

Now the fact that God said doesn't mean there won't be challenges, there will be infact the devil is out there to destroy Christian homes. They are even attacked more because once the family unit is stabilized it has a ripple effect on the children from a stable family and affects the society too.

The prayer of that family will keep them and they will overcome the challenges.
