Why Do We Always Cook Rice On Sundays? by Katier00(f): 5:15pm On Jun 23, 2018

I was about going for my weekly shopping and something just came to my mind, is there any rule that state we must cook rice for launch on Sundays? 90% of households in Nigeria eat rice very Sunday. I just decided to cook yam and egg sauce tomorrow to see if something unusual will happen

It is an old tradition that i still love to keep and pass on to my children.I mean during my child hood days ,what is a Sunday without rice and stew? cheesy.Sundays are seen as a special day then and even now. These days things have changed ,alot of people now eat fried rice, swallows etc on sundays, even now alot of Nigerian families still practice that tradition. Its cool though tongue

Nothing special about it now. Used to be when eating rice was a privilege not anymore. Currently just a tradition that stuck with us. Not me though, anything goes on Sundays

It started when rice was seen as a prime meal and of a higher expense to prepare, so having it on Sunday is regarded as a treat.

Personally, while growing up we prepared rice anytime during the week as rice was bought in bags as I recall it was only salad that was the Sunday special.

That was when we were younger, it was referred to as special food then.
Presently, rice is eaten almost everyday in every household.
