Butterflyleo:Hope is not the basis of truth. Imagine(if you have any imaginative power) a man is in a man eater lion's cage and he believes that the green divine dragon will save him. The fact that his belief gives him hope doesn't mean it's true and the lion won't kill him. The truth, though hopeless, is that the lion will kill him. So my fellow atheist (who went morally astray), hope is not the basis of truth. |

Coming out as an atheist is something that goes with perfection. I mean you have to aim close to perfection in whatever you do. If you are a student, you have to be at the top of your game. If you are a business person, you ought to make sure your customers naturally can't do without your products or services irrespective of your religious affiliation. In general, you ought to strive to excel in whatever you do - no excuses! For me, I keep my atheism to myself but don't find it hard to let anyone know if they happen to bring up religious discussion or ask me religion related questions like: why I don't go to church or where I worship. I work with a multinational company, and all my bosses and other colleagues know I'm an atheist. And it has never changed the way they see me or hindered my promotion or cause them to appraise me poorly. I do my job excellently and the result speaks for me so no one can witch-hunt me because I'm an atheist. |

CAPSLOCKED:Amazingly they don't automatically assume I was insane. The first hint I notice is curiosity. You don't believe in God? Wow. How come? Why? What do you believe in? I take time to explain, try to sate their curiosity the best way I can. They don't lose their respect or love for me. They somehow develop a different kind of admiration and respect. Maybe because no one really have any leverage on me. |

Martinez19:Your fear is based on your own imagination of what you will do to believers in the same situation. Atheist lecturers are know to have victimized students who are Christian. All the best. |

Abeg don't cause unnecessary problems for yourself. Religion makes rational people irrational. Someone once said 'good people do good deeds and evil people do evil deeds but for a good person to do evil? That takes religion'. A good normal lecturer might think he/she is doing the Lord's work by victimizing you, so as to change your mind and free you from 'demonic possession'. Atheism is not religion that mandates you to evangelize. |

bloodofthelamb:1. What is so special about dying for what you believe in? 2. Your quote is quite the reverse. If you can and want to die for what you believe in, then you are just living to believe. 3. Dying for what you believe in? Well atheism lacks belief. Is that a surprise? |

Martinez19, IF YOU ARE IN NIGERIA, KEEP YOUR ATHEISM CLOSE TO YOURSELF. The only exception to this rule is when you are financially independent. You have money to support yourself and so, no religious fool can touch you. Please, do not listen to Johnydon22. Even though the guy makes sense most of the time, he likes to behave like Martin Luther King thinking that his oppressors will change if you are nice and open with them. The average Nigerian is religiously crazy. You are in a nation of crazy religious people and you think they will act normally to your rejection of their religion? Oga, quietly study and make your money. Forget exposing yourself to dangerous people. I have experience working in different companies across southern Nigeria and soon I will open a diary on it so that people will know where I am coming from |

| Re: Hopefullandlord And Co, I Need You Guys Take On This Issue. by superhumanist(m): 1:06pm On Jun 25, 2018 |
johnydon22:Yes. But you like talking with two sides of your mouth. Let me analyse your comment below johnydon22:Either you are delusional with your success or you are lying. Bro, I am independent as well. However, religion is a madness of its own. There are people who will beg you for money and still advice you to stop your satanic ways so that you can give your life to Christ. Even at work, people will use style to bring you to their church. Virtually every office on Nigeria has at least two "Deeply born agains" that will worry for your soul. I remember one of my bosses who chopped blasting from the managing partner because he was unavailable due to Friday prayers at the mosque. Obama was called an anti-christ just because he wasn't a serious Christian (or they suspected him to be a secret atheist) In short, most Nigerian Christians do not respond with curiousity when they face an atheist (especially for the first time). This means that I am saying that you are lying when you claim that your family and friends respond with curiousity to your atheism. The initial response is that they think -you are joking -you are mad -you don join cult -you don become Satanist. The above is far more popular as responses than curiousity. Or maybe you are thinking that their questions are not sarcastic. |

superhumanist:Hi I must let u know that I am facing almost the same situation with Johnny. I agree that it's OK to b financially independent before u let ur atheism come to the open. But it's not the only reason why I am not being persecuted as an atheist. I have a very domineering personality. I don't give people the opportunity to talk down on me. Even my bosses can't. But some how and luckily my past two bosses are really against churches and are closet atheists as far as I am concerned. But my colleagues feel very intimidated when ever they are around me. I make them look like fools so they avoid religious discussions with them. Most times I force them to talk and make a fool of them... Then never born the person that will persecute me because of my believe.. I will shut u down. However I have a very interesting personality... I am easily likeable and people easily think I am smart, perhaps because I am bold. People like me for always being honest and outspoken and are ready to forget about my religious status when dealing with me... Therefore in the bid not to hate me they rather we don't talk religion despite my always itching to. My family just tire for me... They really cannot do anything... They just say they are praying for me and we are all good. I think in my case the situation is the other way round... I persecute religious folks instead |

bloodofthelamb:The secret is that Atheists have agreed to violently attack and curse a God they claim can never exist. They have made a pact to beat up this non-existent God and his Son JESUS CHRIST. It is well known that inmates in a Mental Asylum exhibit such behavior constantly. I am aware that Sonofthunder finds this hilarious. Atheist behaviour is like a script out of a horror movie. Be careful, this is not a genuine Religious forum, Christians get banned for countering the insults and mockery of resident atheists. The foundations of Atheism has collapsed like the Berlin wall. |

Martinez19:For every action there is a reaction equal and opposite, this is also UNBREAKABLE spiritual law. You as a Satanic atheist have mocked and insulted millions of innocent people and worked hard to deprive them of their spiritual rights. Now your cruel actions will turn and bite you. |

superhumanist:I am in Nigeria Lagos. I intimidate my Co workers... We only argue but no issue. Like Johnny even strangers are curious to know why I don't believe... They ask me their normal silly questions and all that and it ends there... Then no born anyone to intimidate me because of my believe. I was coming back from a week trip to South Africa last month and met a lady in the plan(it was a 5 hour flight) she actually went for a religious convention. We got talk and she started to preach.. I told her point blank that everything is fake... Do u know she didn't let me go? She was curious to know me more. She called her driver and asked where I was going... Luckily we were both going to island from the airport. She was nice to me... Drops me off took my number and just inky last week she invited me to a church program which I declined. If any Christian tried to intimidate me because of my believe he will actually regret it |

superhumanist:That's a rather bold statement Super. Doesn't it depend on the sort of Christians one meets, and the way one exhibits one's atheism? Papa Roger, came to visit ma one day at the same time I was. He'd heard I ship books home and had some to give me. "Are you a believer?" He asked me, to wit I responded in the negative. "A Muslim?", he asked, and I said, "No, an atheist". Papa Roger gave me this awful look and refused to talk to me. Weeks later, we met again, and Papa Roger said he was sorry for being so rude. He told me not to say I am an atheist no more because, and according to him, "You have more God in you than many I know". My response was, "You asked, and I don't lie". Papa Roger, in his 90s, died a few years later and left me £200 in his will, "To continue the work of God that you do", was the message that accompanied it. Mrs Evangelist Ayodeji another friend of ma's was standing at a busstop one day and a man stood beside her smoking and blowing smoke her way. While she was contemplating asking him to move his stink, another man approached him. "Do you have a spare cigarette", he asked stinky smoker. Stinky brought his pack out and offered one. But the asker said, "Oh no, it's your last one, I can't take it". Stinky said, "O, take it", but asker refused again. "Take it", "I can't take your last one", went on a couple more times, and finally asker became taker and left. Then Mrs Evangelist Ayodele's turned to stinky smoker and asked, "Are you a Christian?" "No", said stinky, I'm an atheist". Her bus arrived and stinky helped her on to it and remained at the busstop waiting for his. When Mrs Evangelist Ayodele told me that story, knowing I am an atheist, she asked me if there was some code of unselfishness amongst atheists, and I informed her that what she'd witnessed was more of a code amongst smokers. She ended with, "I have never seen a more Christian attitude than that shown by atheist stinky and asker". My point is, some Christians are not as bigoted as some. Though, having not done a poll, I can't claim whether it applies to most or not. From vast experience however, I would say quite a lot of Christians actually do react curiously as they ask how I cope without God. |

Martinez19:At the same time he has to step out of his shell and understand his experience does not hold true for everyone else or everywhere else. it just a depiction of his own little world. Everyone else might as well reach an approximation through their own personal experience in other words, i'd say that christians are mostly curious about atheism which being my experience does not hold true for everyone else. such self-absolved assumption is not only flawed but dangerous. We all do not respond to certain things the same way, my approach with my atheism is different from that of everyone else and maybe i do not find myself in antagonize situations because 1. None have a leverage over me 2. the caliber of people i deal with 3. My attitude when demonstrating the points of my atheism. I have lived a little more than a quarter century on earth, i have been an atheist for many years, nobody have ever attacked me physically based on this knowledge, no one has ever denied me opportunities due to me based on this knowledge too. I know when and when it is necessary to argue. I don't jump into a hostile environment and feel it is a form of moral charter to throw my atheism about. Nevertheless, to be safe I would follow the advice of superhumanist.Which is exactly the first point i made in this post. remember these johnydon22: johnydon22: johnydon22: |

johnydon22:If it was only my experience to go on, I would be wrong. Your experience too could be wrong/subjective as well. There are two other objective measures we can use 1. Right here on nairaland, how do christians respond to atheism? Is it with open arms or with hostility? 2. We can use another religious country- The USA. As developed as it is, we can see how many cases of discrimination against atheist arise. Furthermore on the issue of "atheist experience" in the USA, you cannot be an atheist and be a president in the USA. There are polls showing that atheists are one of the least trusted people in the country. So, oga, I have precedent to back my assertions. What do you have to back up your experience? cc Frank317, martinez19, budaatum |
