God bless Desmond Elliot for saying so. Why are people so upset? I myself will continue my prayers for Nigeria--even more so now. I encourage you all to do the same.

Praying does not mean that you will not work. You can pray and work. In addition, prayer is a form of work. Prayer also enhances our work to make it the most fruitful. With all that is happening in Nigeria these days, we need more prayer now than ever. We need the intervention of God.

*"God is our refuge and our strength, a present help in times of trouble." (Psalms 18:2)
*"I lift up my eyes to hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, Maker of heaven and earth." (Psalm 121:1)
*"The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." (James 5:16)

Prayer is not "making wishes." When we ask God for help in prayer, we not just asking anybody, we are asking the Creator of the Universe to intervene in our situation. God is greater than man, so it makes sense that we should ask Him for help. We must not forget that all things are possible with God.

Besides, there are many instances of how prayer has saved nations, even in our own modern times.

Example:
In 1952, Austria was taken over by Communists (atheists) from Russia after World War 2. This Communist government began to oppress the Church. A priest named Father Petrus Pavlicheck decided to have a public Rosary prayer crusade. More and more people began to join the prayer crusades--at one point up to 70,000 people promised to say the Rosary prayer daily. Then after 3 years, on May 13,1955, even though Austria was a strategic location for the Communists, without any explanation, they signed an agreement to leave Austria. Without any armed conflict against the Communists, Austria became free again after just a few years. (This was not this case with other nations like Poland which suffered under Communist rule for 40 years.)

I see nothing wrong about praying for the peace of one's country. We want to enjoy the peace of lord in our nation, but denying the power thereof. Even if there's no calamity, we have it as a responsibility to always pray for our nation.
The problem is that we take things of the spirit for granted. The enemy, devil wants to actualize her mission of stealing, killing and to destroy but Christians are yet to rise from their slumber and fight with their weapons of warfare.
Praying for our nation doesn't stop anyone from voting, instead through prayers God will bring people into conviction of exercising their franchise.

Finally our eyes is now open to the fact that prayers need action. Some pastors have made it look like only prayers can solve our problems, which is wrong. we need action.

China is not a christian nation but you see development,it just action and hard work.
there is no difference between pastor and politician !

There is nothing wrong in being prayerful but the problem is peolpe can't differiante btw what needs prayers and what needs hardwork.

The developed countries today didnt achieve that feet by prayers. They thought, implemented and executed.

You must have thought that none of those who lost their lives in the tragedy never prayed better than you , believed better, paid tithes, held stronger faith than you..

Many families are mourning, you open your dirty mouth to praise same God for protecting you and your family.... Get your senses right.

Though, prayer is necessary at all times. We shouldn't see it as the only solution to our problems. 'Actions speaks louder than voice'.

Nothing has made me so happy here on Nairaland until now... The comments given to Desmond, reveals that there is a gradual change in the mind of Nigerians ..the idea of pray and fast while the miracle will take place is gradually eroding in the minds of the informed Nigerians ... This makes me happy ... What about the uninformed Nigerians, since they the bulk of the masses? How can this change of mind reach them

There's nothing wrong in prayer if one is paying for the right thing, however if you are praying for Nigeria to be right you are just wasting your time, have you ever heard of uk or usa praying for things to be right in their country? instead they will implement what would solved and ease the country's problem.

We have been praying.....
We have been writing r.i.p since when yansh dey back..
We have been lamenting..
We have cried. ..
We have protest.. But

Nobody have taken any steps to amend all that is wrong with this country. politician or citizen, old or young, rich or poor, we have done nothing.

Your prayers, R.i.p, laments, protest and thought on social media is only valid until the next tragedy. I bet many people have forgotten about Leah Sharibu in the custody of the terrorists group Boko Haram.

Words are not working, we need to start acting

sars brutality, herdsmen killing, terrorism in the north, suicidal cases, kidnapping, accidents, preventive deaths, plateu killings, tanker explosion and who knows what next if all we do is to come online and type r.i.p.

"We (youths) are the leaders of tomorrow" they say, but hear me, tomorrow is not next month or next year or when you are 50, tomorrow is already here, it is today and we can't change tomorrow if we do not change today first.

So get up! Use your brain and let's make a difference together. Nigeria cannot be saved by one man.
Well said

My brother, don't get their messages twisted.
When any issues humans cause themselves through their continuously neglect and some people occupying leadership positions always tell us to pray or buy the lets's 'move on' mentality why things remain unchanged is what I think they are
faulting.

In Islaam we believe in the concept of "tie your camel and put your trust in Allaah through prayer"
similarly I know the christians believe in faith with work: as they say faith without work is fruitless or better still, heaven help those who help themselves

We should stop this praying, praying ,praying all the time whereas God has given us brain, hands and legs to work things out for the better.

Even America we look up to has the number country in terms of civilization they take everything seriously amd they still say God bless America.
Ours is a case of mental attitude.
We should stop it and call on God when necessary not this motion without movement we've turned prayers to.

While he is stealing we should be praying for him to see more to steal, ole, is it about prayer, is about using the money you are stealing to help the down trodden. See how bloated he is now. With all he has amassed, what has he done for the industry that he came? If he shot any film, asked how much does he pay none celebrities? They says some 5k, 7k, 10k and or work for free to expose their face he says. Does he pray before stealing. He is replicating what Richard Mofe Damijo did who asked up coming comedians to come for competitions and they were never paid their prizes yet he got the money out from Delta state government. Thieves.

It is good to vote out the thieves with our PVC but the major problem is with the voters, they continue to vote for thieves and people who cannot effect any change. For me it is better we have an agreement with the British government to recolonize us for another fifty years. We are all blind. We cant help ourselves. We need help. We need to shock the world and submit ourselves for recolonization.

Exactly my point! Many "actioners" here won't still vote o. At the end of the day, the ogas at the top would pay the unenlightened ones to vote for them and most of us who claim to be enlightened would still be screaming "action". Change begins with everyone of us. I pray God guides us.
