After reading it's origin, it is obvious Obiano's name change of the said street is disrespectful. Disrespectful to the first Ebonyi man who settled there and even to his ilks. Why his motive for changing the street might not be obvious, it is an attempt at distorting history.

One thing I have come to know overtime is that villages, towns and streets often carry significant names which might not necessarily tell about the the original owners. There is an Olu Obasanjo Road in Port Harcourt, Owerri Street in Enugu, and a Sabo in almost every SW, SS and SE state. These names cannot just be renamed because they are often tools of history.

Obiano should let sleeping dogs lie and revert on the name. There is no wisdom in this one.

I think our leaders should learn to be very cautious of all their actions n inactions in this era because people have got more stake in whatever decision taken by them. Abakaliki as the capital of Ebonyi state that I know has most her street names after Anambra cities n individuals like the popular onisha street, awka street, agulu street, nose street, nanka street, ekwulobia street n even the most popular spera in deo round about named after the igwe enugwu ukwu. So the Governor of Anambra should have thought it wise that renaming the street will amount to demeaning people of that extraction who has given them their all as brothers

A man from Abakiliki, Ebonyi state developed the place even when the so called anambra sons ignored and avoided the area.

Now that the place is booming, they want to change it from Abakiliki street to "club" street.

That's the highest level of disrespect

I think the matter should now be laid to rest irrespective of who developed there or not...is no longer relevant..

In spirit of fair play the name should remain Club road/zone so that all tension will be reduced...and life moves on....

That story is not correct. I was in Awka then. There were buildings there. Street wasn't developed.

It's as if obiano doesn't want people to know that ebonyi people are also rich and blessed unlike the norm that people believe of the ebonyi man as poor and gala sellers.

An ebonyi man developed that area to what it is today, give them that respect and change it back to Abakiliki street.

Very wrong to rename it. Abakaliki Street should be kept. It would be a synonym for everything nightlife or club. The name mustn't be changed to achieve this. Las Vegas wasn't renamed to Casino City. The mere mention of Vegas we know what comes to mind and that's what Abakaliki Street should be left to achiev
