People's reasoning are atimes funny. @egein, what are they prosecuting for? Was the tanker reported to have spilled fuel (leakage)? We were told it was while the tanker driver manoeuvered to avoid colliding with a reckless commuter bus ahead that the incident occurred. So what was the driver's fault?

The LASG rather should pass a law to stop tankers working during the day.

So the owners of any vehicle that people died as a result of accident should be charged with manslaughter. So should this also be applied to other vehicles as well, for example okada, commercial buses and even airplanes?
Wow!...is this what you gather from all that was said?....you need to read slowly...a few times...then maybe..just maybe...you'll understand why the owner and driver should be charged.

Stop using sentiments. Yes on what ground. If VIO and FRSC that sees those trucks plying everyday without seizure due to lack of road worthiness, have not been disbanded, the owner of the truck has no business with prosecution.

Curse the government that is meant to make environment safe and yet failed. A country where there is little or no commitment to development.

The driver is an agent of the owner (principal).
Please find a lawyer to explain that to you.

Hmmmmmmmm. Na the owner drive the truck. The commercial driver that was carrying passengers was not mentioned. Clowns

The owner of the truck has to be held responsible because he hired the driver (which I am so sure is unlicenced to drive the truck in the first place) that caused the unnecessary death of so many.

In a normal country where journalists are not comedians running after government house and politicians, but getting the peoples news from social media, the real story of what happened would have been told by now with eye witness accounts.
Proper investigation (which I doubt can happen, looking at facts) should reveal any case of negligence from the driver or owner.

For my fellow citizens who do not understand why the trucks owner, and possibly mechanic and driver should be charged, I submit these to thee:

Exhibit #1:

"Bath tipper truck crash: haulage company owner and mechanic jailed

Adam Vaitilingam QC, prosecuting, described Gordon’s business as “a shambles from start to finish”. Grittenham Haulage did not carry out the recommended brake efficiency tests on the vehicle, which had almost 450,000 miles on the clock at the time of the incident.

The final safety check carried out by Wood was described as “wholly inadequate”.

Mr Justice Langstaff told Gordon, of Dauntsey, Wiltshire, and Wood, of Brinkworth, Wiltshire, that the brakes were in an appalling state and the lorry should not have been on the road. “You were not concerned for the public,” he told Gordon."

Exhibit #2:

"Owner Of Truck That Caused 2005 Avon Mountain Crash Back In Jail

Wilcox, 81, who owned American Crushing and Recycling and was sentenced to six years in prison for allowing poorly maintained trucks to go on the road each day, was held in lieu of $100,000 bail after his arraignment Friday in Superior Court in Hartford."

We're so used to living under chaos that we don't even understand legalities anymore in Nigeria.

No one alive drives any of my vehicles in the US except for my blood brothers, all of whom I know are vetted, reasonable people.

Why?

Because I could be held responsible for any damage that they might cause.

i am shocked that one has to explain basic vicarious liability, criminal negligence and involuntary manslaughter to some adults here

a lot of the people posting are lazy nigerian youths, but it is flat out amazing that Nigerians do not understand the concept of personal responsibility

everything is always in someone else's hands, be it the government, the daddy go, or the deity of choice
ZERO responsibility for anything rests on us.

LASG is making the right move. this will send out a message to all the truck owners out there - run your dangerous vehicles somewhere else.

owner is almost definitely aboki, so as soon as his identity is revealed, expect these same 'defenders of the indefensible to flip and support dealing with the 'murderous muslim killer'
